Aim: To evaluate the intensity of lipid peroxidation and the activity of catalase in patients with laryngeal cancer. Materials and Methods: Samples of blood serum and erythrocytes from 40 patients with laryngeal cancer of stages II and III and 20 healthy volunteers were investigated. Results: The level of TBA-positive products and diene conjugates in blood serum samples of stage II and III patients with laryngeal cancer was increased than that of control. In the same time catalase activity was significantly reduced. In the erythrocytes of patients in both groups the level of diene conjugates and catalase activity was higher than that of control. The level of TBA-positive products increased only in patients with III stage disease. Our results indicate the intensification of free-radical oxidation against the background of the functional stress of the antioxidant defense system in patients with laryngeal cancer, as well as the violation of the structural and functional state of erythrocyte plasma membranes, which is manifested in the activation of lipid peroxidation. This indicates about the formation of a complex of disorders, which can play a significant role in the development and deepening of the pathological process.

The article presents the results of studies on the effect of commercial food on the processes of free radical oxidation of lipids in the body of cats with urinary tract pathology. It has been found that the concentration of diene conjugates in the blood serum of sick animals increases significantly by 15.1 - 36.7% relative to healthy ones. The MDA content in the blood serum of healthy animals was 6.05 ± 0.28 nmol / g. In animals with urolithiasis, this indicator increased by about 2 times. When feeding with commercial food and homemade food, LPO processes normalize, which is most pronounced on the 21st day. The average activity of catalase in the blood serum of sick animals was increased from 30.6% to 40.2% relative to healthy ones (15.15 ± 0.61 ?mol / ml). After feeding with therapeutic and prophylactic fodders, by the 7th day, the catalase activity did not significantly decrease compared to the initial level, but remained higher than in control animals by 19.6% - 37.1%. On the 14th day, the catalase activity did not change significantly compared with the 7th day and was higher than the control values by 21.5% - 27.5%.

We studied the intensity of lipid peroxidation (LPO) and the status of antioxidant system in blood of 6-60 months ostriches. We proved that specific functioning of the antioxidant system and the accumulation of lipid peroxidation intermediates characterized each period of ostrich life cycle. Thus, the period of puberty was accompanied by intensification of lipid peroxidation in ostrich blood serum and this was confirmed by a significant increase in the amount of TBA-reactive substances. This could be the consequence of the insufficient activity of enzymes of the antioxidant system (catalase, glutathione-S-transferase, glutathione reductase). The egg-laying peak was characterized by the increased body metabolism, which caused the activation of free-radical oxidation. The concentration of lipid hydroperoxides and diene conjugates increased and the TBA-reactive substances did not change significantly. Antioxidant protection of the blood during this period was mainly caused by the significant concentration of ceruloplasmin and reduced glutathione due to the increased activity of glutathione reductase. We supposed that the period of puberty and intensive period of egg laying in ostriches should be referred as the periods of stress of metabolic processes with increased intensity of lipid oxidation, associated with the certain changes in ostrich physiological and functional state.

Aim. Determine the most informative indicators of free radical peroxidation in blood plasma for predicting the complications of dental implantation. Methods. The study included 84 patients of both with dental implants, including 31 patients without any complications and 53 patients with peri-implantitis. The levels of lipid peroxidation products and protein carbonylation were measured in peripheral blood. Results. Moderate intensification of lipid peroxidation and protein carbonylation was discovered in blood serum of patients with dental implants. Increased free radical oxidation in the blood was not limited to lipid peroxidation and resulted in increased serum levels of carbonylated proteins. Facilitation of oxidative degradation of proteins in the blood was associated with decreased resistance to «carbonyl stress», manifested as increased level of Fe+2/H2O2-induced carbonylation. Development of peri-implantitis resulted in a greater enhancement of free radical oxidation of blood. Isopropanol-soluble and heptane-soluble Schiff bases level was increased in blood serum as well. Similar to patients with dental implants, increased levels of carbonylated proteins was observed in blood serum at peri-implantitis. However, free radical oxidation was more intense in patients with peri-implantitis compared to patients with dental implants. Indeed, the level of heptane-soluble Schiff bases at the group with peri-implantitis was 2 times higher as compared to dental implants group, and the level of isopropanol-soluble lipid peroxidation products in inflammatory complications after implantation has reached fourfold increase compared with patients who underwent operation without complications. Conclusion. Investigated indicators of free radical oxidation may be used as markers of peri-implantitis. Among them, the most informative indicators are Schiff bases and metal-catalyzed protein oxidation.

Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) have been the leading cause of death worldwide for many years. In recent years, new CVD markers have been sought that can improve the diagnosis and treatment of this broad and predictably unfavorable group of diseases. The efforts of many researchers are aimed at identifying changes in the level of enzymes in the lipid peroxidation system as possible mechanisms underlying the development of CVDs. The imbalance between the intensification of free-radical oxidation caused by active oxygen forms and the activity of the body’s protective antioxidant system leads to serious disturbances: disorganization of cellular structures, changes in their functional activity. The article presents the study of the interrelations between the concentration distribution of POL-AO enzymes in blood serum and heart tissues of white non-pedigree rats. The correlation coefficients of Spearman, the gamma of correlation and Kendel Tau revealed a reliable presence of weak correlation between the concentration of glutathione peroxidase in blood serum and heart tissues (Spearman R = 0.18 at p < 0.029408, Gamma = 0.14 at p < 0.018701; Kendall Tau = 0.13 at p < 0.018701).

The work purpose was research of degree of free-radical processes intensity and catalase activity in blood serum of patients with a thyreotoxicosis syndrome at traditional treatment and the combined therapy with epifamin. Patients (n=25) have been divided into 2 groups: the first group of patients - 12 persons who are on traditional treatment (antithyreoid drugs, β-adrenoblockers); the second group - 13 persons, are padding to basic therapy received epifamin on 1 tablet (10 mg) 3 times a day 10-15 minutes prior to meal within 7 days. Patients with thyreotoxicosis syndrome had an intensification of free-radical oxidation that was traced at measurement of biochemiluminescence parameters in blood serum. At the combined therapy with epifamin less expressed intensity of free-radical processes, and also increasing of the general antioxidant activity of an organism that did not descend at traditional treatment was observed. At carrying out of standard therapy of thyreotoxicosis syndrome, including application of antithyreoid drugs and β-adrenoblockers, catalase activity decreased, that unfavorable affected antioxidant potential of an organism. At the combined therapy with epifamin level of catalase activity, on the contrary, increased, that could influence positively on antioxidant protection of an organism.

The article presents the results of research on the peculiarities of the functioning of the pro-and antioxidant system of cattle in postnatal ontogenesis in the biogeochemical conditions of the Astrakhan region. The territory of the Astrakhan region is considered to be deficient in the content of selenium in the soil, water and feed, which is confirmed by our research. This is displayed on the body of animals. It was found that the content of selenium in the blood serum is 0.58 mcg/k, which is lower than the physiological value, which leads to the inhibition of the processes of lipid peroxidation in the body of cattle. In the age aspect, the level of diene conjugates and malondialdehyde increases by 7.4-11.4 % and 11.3-16.1 %, respectively. A correlation was established between catalase activity and age (by 19.6% by the 5th year of life). The correlation coefficient is 0.95.

Purpose of the study: to assess the state of lipid peroxidation processes in patients with kidney cancer in relation to the clinical factors of the prognosis of the disease and against the background of surgical intervention.Material and methods. For the study, we used blood plasma samples from 300 patients with kidney cancer T1–4N 0–1M0–1, obtained before surgery and 8–9 days after surgery. Oxidative stress was assessed by the intensity of free radical processes by the method of induced biochemiluminescence on the BKhL-07 biochemiluminometer apparatus (Medozons Co., Russia), the activity of lipid peroxidation processes was assessed by the accumulation of initial products in the blood plasma – diene conjugates (DC), triene conjugates (TC) and fial Schiff bases (OSh) according to I. A. Volchegorsky et al. method. (1989). Statistical processing of the results was carried out using Statistica 12 and Microsoft Offie Excel 2010 programs.Results. In patients with kidney cancer, there was a decrease in the level of DC, an increase in OSh and the ratio of Osh / (DC + TC) compared with the control (p ≤ 0.05), against the background of depletion of the resources of the antioxidant defense system. The content of DC did not differ from the norm with the size of the primary tumor of the kidney pT1–pT2 and decreased (p ≤ 0.05) in the case of the presence of the tumor pT3–pT4. At the same time, there was an increase in the OSh content (p ≤ 0.05). In patients with thrombi in the inferior vena cava system, a decrease in the level of DC was observed (p ≤ 0.05), the OSh level did not differ from that of healthy individuals. In the postoperative period, there was an increase in the content of DC (p ≤ 0.05) and a decrease in the Osh / (DC + TC) coeffiient (p ≤ 0.05) compared with the initial level.Conclusion. Kidney cancer is accompanied by the activation of free radical oxidation processes against the background of depletion of the resources of the antioxidant defense system. Changes in the pro-antioxidant homeostasis are interrelated with the size of the primary tumor and the presence of a tumor thrombus. In the postoperative period, the activity of free radical oxidation processes in the patient’s body decreases.

Investigation of glutathione antioxidant system activity and diene conjugates content in rats liver and blood serum at the influence of melaksen and valdoxan under experimental hyperthyroidism (EG) has been revealed. It has been established that the activities of glutathione reductase (GR), glutathione peroxidase (GP) and glutathione transferase (GT), growing at pathological conditions, change to the side of control value at these substunces introduction. Reduced glutathione content (GSH) at melaxen and valdoxan action increased compared with values under the pathology, that, obviously, could be associated with a reduction of its spending on the detoxication of free radical oxidation (FRO) toxic products. Diene conjugates level in rats liver and blood serum, increasing at experimental hyperthyroidism conditions, under introduction of melatonin level correcting drugs, also approached to the control meaning. Results of the study indicate on positive effect of melaxen and valdoxan on free radical homeostasis, that appears to be accompanied by decrease of load on the glutathione antioxidant system in comparison with the pathology.

Introduction: Production of ethylbenzene and styrene (EBS) is one of the most important stages in organic synthesis. The products have general toxic, hepatotoxic, irritating and narcotic effects on the human body. Severe exposures to EВS can induce pronounced disorders of the central nervous system such as styrene sickness and encephalopathy and of peripheral blood such as leukopenia and lymphocytosis. Materials and methods: We studied homeostasis indices in 376 workers of the main professional groups engaged in the production of EBS including equipment operators, repairmen, and instrumentation and automation fitters. Results: We established an increase in lipid peroxidation by the level of malondialdehyde amid an increase in catalase activity and a decrease in blood retinol and α-tocopherol levels. We also noted an increased activity of indicator enzymes including ALT, AST, GGT, and alkaline phosphatase. Significant changes in lipid metabolism in the form of cholesterolemia, triglyceridemia, a higher atherogenic index, and lower cholesterol of non-atherogenic blood serum lipids demonstrating atherogenic changes in the body were revealed. Conclusions: The earliest prenosological disorders in the body of the examined workers included an impaired hepatic protein synthesis, the development of cytolysis processes and a change in the integrity and functional activity of the liver cell in individuals, an imbalance in the oxidant-antioxidant system, one of the reasons of which was the adverse occupational exposure to hazardous chemicals. An increase in catalase activity is a protective compensatory reaction during the activation of free radical oxidation processes.
