Worldwide, stroke was ranked as the second commonest cause of death and the third most common cause of disability-adjusted life-years. Lacunar stroke is one type of stroke.  The aim of this study is to determine the dependability of gender differences in lacunar stroke epidemiology on patient age as the influence of gender on stroke risk and outcome changes across the lifespan. Thus, this study was to identify age, and gender differences among lacunar stroke patients at University Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC). This study was conducted retrospectively from January 2016 to December 2019 in UMMC. Patients were selected based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. The inclusion criteria include a clinical diagnosis of lacunar stroke, age categories of middle age (40 – 59 years old) and older age (60 years and above), as well as undergo CT examination. The exclusion criterion is other than lacunar stroke patients. Patient’s data on gender and age were retrieved from the database PACS of UMMC. The analyzation includes cross tabulation of categorical data and independent t-test. Among 94 cases, higher cases of lacunar stroke are found to occur in men (58.51%). Furthermore, both middle age (13.83%) and older age (44.68%) among male patient shows higher percentage of lacunar incidence compared to female patients. Moreover, old age patients (76.60%) for each gender shows higher percentage of lacunar incidence compared to middle-aged patients (23.30%). Meanwhile the independent t-test result demonstrated that the mean age of female patients (67.79) diagnosed with lacunar stroke is not statistically different from the mean age of male patients (68.47). The study indicated that lacunar stroke is most likely to occur in men either at age 40 or 60 and above. Higher cases were recorded in older category which is at age 60 and above for both genders.

Radiographic Mandibular Indices serve as easy and relatively cheap tools for evaluating bone mineralization. Objectives: To examine the effect of age and gender on three mandibular indices: the panoramic mandibular index (PMI), the mandibular ratio (MR) and the mandibular cortical index (MCI), among Libyan population. Methods: The three indices were measured on 317 digital (OPGs) of adult humans (155 males, 162 females). The sample was divided into six age groups (from 18-25 years through 56-65 years). The measurements were analyzed for interactions with age and sex, using SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Studies) software version no. 22. The tests employed were two way ANOVA, the unpaired T-test and chi-square test. Results: The mean PMI fluctuated between 0.37 s.d. 0.012 and 0.38 s.d. 0.012. among the sixth age groups. One-way ANOVA statistical test revealed no significant of age on PMI. On the other hand gender variation has effect on PMI, since independent sample t-test disclosed that the difference between the male and female PMI means statistically significant. ANOVA test showed that the means of MR among age groups showed a negative correlation i.e. MR mean declined from 3.01 in 18-25 age groups to 2.7 in 55-65 age groups. In contrary, the gender showed no effect on MR according two sample t-test at p> 0.05. In regards with MCI, statistical analysis showed that it affected by age that is C1 was decreasing by age while C2 and C3 were increased by age. Using chi square test the result indicated that there is a significant difference among the different age group and the two genders in MCI readings. Conclusion: PMI was influenced significantly by age but minimally by the gender. MR is not affected by gender but has a negative correlation with age. MCI is affected by both age and gender

Introduction: Proximal humerus fractures (PHF) constitute the majority of the most common osteoporotic fractures. Bone density measurements can affect treatment methods and outcomes. This study was aimed to investigate the effect of osteoporosis values, measured from direct radiographs, on fracture type, surgical outcomes. Methods: 248 patients over 50 years of age who presented to Mersin City Hospital between 2017 and 2020 with proximal humeral fractures were retrospectively evaluated. The age and gender of the patients and the fracture types were evaluated according to the AO classification system from the direct radiographs obtained at the time of admission were recorded. The Tingart cortical thickness and deltoid tuberosity index (DTI) measurements were used to assess osteoporosis status in all patients. Postoperative and follow-up radiographs of 45 patients, treated with fixed-angle proximal humeral locking plate, were evaluated for radiographic results and their correlations with osteoporosis measurements were examined. Results: According to the demographic characteristics of the patients, 171 patients were female and 77 patients were male (F/M: 3/1), and mean age was 69.2 ± 11.66 (50-95). Considering the bone quality parameters in all patients, the mean Tingart value was 5.8 ± 1.6 mm and the mean DTI was 1.43 ± 0.17, where there was a correlation between the Tingart value and DTI (r = 0.810 and p < 0.001). Although there was a statistically significant relationship between the osteoporosis parameters and age and gender (p < 0.001 and p = 0.023, respectively), main AO fracture types were not related to osteoporosis (p < 0.05). In the operated group (n = 48, 19%), 19 patients (42%) showed poor outcomes, which were not associated with age and osteoporosis parameters. Conclusion: This study was concluded that osteoporosis parameters differ between genders and age groups in patients with PHF, however osteoporosis is not the main factor affecting the fracture type and surgical outcomes.

Interpreting other people’s intentions during communication represents a remarkable challenge for children. Although many studies have examined children’s understanding of, for example, sarcasm, less is known about their interpretation. Using realistic audiovisual scenes, we invited 124 children between 8 and 12 years old to watch video clips of young adults using different speaker intentions. After watching each video clip, children answered questions about the characters and their beliefs, and the perceived friendliness of the speaker. Children’s responses reveal age and gender differences in the ability to interpret speaker belief and social intentions, especially for scenarios conveying teasing and prosocial lies. We found that the ability to infer speaker belief of prosocial lies and to interpret social intentions increases with age. Our results suggest that children at the age of 8 years already show adult-like abilities to understand literal statements, whereas the ability to infer specific social intentions, such as teasing and prosocial lies, is still developing between the age of 8 and 12 years. Moreover, girls performed better in classifying prosocial lies and sarcasm as insincere than boys. The outcomes expand our understanding of how children observe speaker intentions and suggest further research into the development of teasing and prosocial lie interpretation.
