Introduction. The aerosol box can reduce the risk of droplet and aerosol transmission from the patient to the operator when performing intubation, but in practice, an aerosol box makes the glottis visualization less evident, and the operator moves less space with less space the aerosol box. This study aimed to compare ETT duration using an aerosol box and without an aerosol box using a video laryngoscope. Methods: This study was a clinical trial with a post-test-only control design. The study was carried out from February 2021 to May 2021 at the Central Operating Theater of dr. Mohammad Hoesin General Hospital Palembang. The sample in this study was all patients who underwent elective surgery under general anesthesia using intubation at the Central Surgical Installation of dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang. After the data is collected, it is analyzed using the SPSS 22.0 program with the appropriate test. Results. There were no differences in subject characteristics (age, sex, BMI, Mallampati score, TMD, Cormack Lehane, limited mouth opening, short neck, limited mouth movement) between the group using the aerosol box and the group without the aerosol box. The duration of intubation without an aerosol box is 30.67 + 2.63 seconds, and using an aerosol box is 44.53 + 2.89 seconds. There was a significant difference between the two groups in the duration of patient intubation (p < 0.001). However, there was no significant difference in complications in the two groups (p >0.05). Conclusion. The duration of the endotracheal tube insertion using an aerosol box is more extended than without an aerosol box in elective surgery patients.

Objective: Blind Nasotracheal Intubation (BNI) can be undertaken aftermuscle relaxation with Inj. Succinylcholine or under deep inhalational anesthesia. The objective of study was todetermine the preferred one of these 2 techniques of BNI. Design: Prospective, randomized study. Place andDuration of Study: PNS SHIFA, Karachi and AFID, Rawalpindi from May 2002 to April 2005. Subjects and Methods:Sixty patients between 10 - 40 years of age presenting for elective surgery in whom BNI was required due to limitedor no mouth opening were enrolled through convenient sampling. Patients were randomly divided into two groups:WMR (n=30) or NMR (n=30) to undergo BNI after relaxation with Succinylcholine or under inhalational anesthesia with2% Halothane, respectively. A red rubber nasal endotracheal tube (cuffed and un cuffed in adults and childrenrespectively) was used. Results: The frequency of successful BNI in WMR group was 100% and significantly higher(P=0.03) than in the NMR group (86%). Time to succeed was significantly less in the WMR group 2±0.9 minutes versus3.4±2.0 in the NMR group. There was no statistically significant difference of occurrence of adverse events in the twogroups. Conclusion: BNI with Succinylcholine produced a higher success rate. This technique can decrease failureto intubate, we speculate that it may, therefore, increase patient safety.

Background and Objectives: Awareness of temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD) is fairly concerning in management of physiotherapy as patients often seek for treatment from orthodontics when pain become their main concerns. In this case, cervical aspects are often overlooked in the treatment of temporomandibular joint disorder. This study aims to determine the effect of cervical extensor strengthening on severity of temporomandibular joint disorder. Methods: A randomized controlled trial study was carried out for 4 weeks to determine the effect of cervical extensor strengthening on severity of temporomandibular joint disorder among university students. A total of 40 participants were recruited via convenient sampling method. Subjects were randomly assigned into two groups: experimental group (E) and control group (C) through lottery randomization. Subjects in experimental group were instructed to perform 1 set of cervical extensor strengthening with 10 repetitions and goldfish exercises whereas subjects in control group were asked to perform goldfish exercises only. A pre-test and post-test severity of TMD, maximal mouth opening and maximal isometric cervical extensor strength were measured for both groups. Results: After 4 weeks of training, there was significant difference in pre-test and post-test severity of TMD and maximal mouth opening for both E and C group. On the other hand, there was significant difference of pre and post-test of maximal isometric cervical extensor strength in experimental group. There was no significant difference in post-test for severity of TMD (p=0.67), maximal mouth opening (p=0.21) and maximal isometric cervical extensor strength (p=0.40) between two groups. Conclusions: The study concluded that, 4 weeks of anti-gravity cervical extensor strengthening exercises protocol showed there was no significantly difference of the severity of TMD and maximal mouth opening between both control and experimental group. On the other hand, goldfish exercises showed significant improvement of maximal mouth opening and reduction in severity of TMD after 4 weeks of intervention period.

ABSTRACT Background To study the rarity of mandibular coronoid process fractures and treatment strategies based on the displacement of these fractures. Materials and methods A retrospective study of 11 cases of coronoid process fractures among 307 treated cases from 2008 to 2013 was conducted. Six patients were treated conservatively and 5 underwent ORIF with associated fractures. A statistical analysis of the data obtained after subjective and objective evaluation was done. Results The incidence of coronoid process fractures was 3.58% of all mandibular fractures analyzed. There was no statistically significant difference found between two treatment modalities, but differences in maximum interincisal opening (MIO) and pain in the postoperative period were significant. Conclusion We recommend that linear coronoid fractures with minimal displacement can be managed with conservative treatment. For patients with significant displacement of coronoid process, limited mouth opening or concomitant mid-face or lower-face fractures, rigid internal fixation is recommended. This exploratory study examined the impact of implicit and explicit oral corrective feedback (CF) on the development of implicit and explicit knowledge of Japanese locative particles (activity de, movement ni and location ni) for those who directly received CF and those who observed CF in the classroom. Thirty-six college students in a beginning Japanese language course received either recast (implicit), metalinguistic (explicit) or no feedback during an information-gap picture description activity, and completed a timed picture description test (implicit knowledge) and an untimed grammaticality judgement test (explicit knowledge) in a pre-test, immediate post-test and delayed post-test. The results showed that overall there was no significant difference between CF types, and that CF benefited direct and indirect recipients similarly. Potential factors that might influence the effectiveness of CF, such as instructional settings, complexity of target structures and pedagogy styles, are discussed.

This study aims to investigate whether the use of six selected short stories throughout the duration of a 14-week course could enhance students’ reading comprehension achievement at the end of the semester. Out of the six short stories read, three were chosen as in-class assignments known as ‘Personal Reading Logs’ (hereafter, PRLs). One group of semester two Diploma students taking a reading skills course was selected through a convenience sampling method. A pre-test was conducted by having the students answer a past semester reading quiz of which the results would then be compared to their post-test (final reading exam) results. A paired samples t-test revealed no significant difference in the reading scores of the pre-test and the post-test, t (17) = -.265, p > .05. Since the p-value was bigger than 0.05, this indicated that the mean reading score of the post-test (M = 50.556) was not significantly higher than the mean reading score of the pre-test (M = 49.722). Therefore, the null hypothesis which stated that there was no difference in the mean score of the pre-test and post-test was retained. Overall, the result refuted the findings of other studies promoting the effectiveness of using short stories to enhance L2 reading comprehension achievement.
