Media is an intermediary that is widely used in conveying information, such as print media, visual media (television), and online visual media. The information contained a lot about ideology, hegemony, power, and even marginalization. The media is also very influential in affirming the concept of gender in society, one of which is YouTube's online media which is considered the most effective in disseminating information. Various kinds of accounts publish videos with various concepts, some contain games, some have vlogs, and some contain lectures. In this paper, the researcher will discuss the contents of the lecture delivered by Ustadz Khalid on gender issues, such as differences between men and women and the characteristics of a man towards women. Three shows were taken as samples and analyzed using Norman Fairclough's critical discourse theory which offers three-dimensional concepts in it; textual, discourse, and social. The results obtained were from the three videos, Ustadz Khalid tried to instill ideology in the community. This is in line with the patriarchal family system adopted by the majority of people in Indonesia.

Abstract : This study discusses the discourse of sexual violence that occurs among women in online media coverage. Good media can display balanced information. Various reports related to sexual harassment often experienced by women can be represented in a discourse differently. At present the exploitation of women is carried out through more intellectual and neatly packaged methods, one of which is through discourse revealed in the mass media. Women in the media are positioned visually prominent , but also marginalized in meaning. If this continues, it will reinforce the existence of gender differences between women and men which has implications for the potential for increasing gender oppression with women as victims. The problem discussed in this study is a critical discourse analysis using the theory of Sara Mils. The discussion of Sara Mills around discourse theory makes the discourse of feminism a vortex of study. In addition, it also addresses women's issues such as how women are displayed in text, images, photos and in the news. The focus of this study is to examine 1) how the text experiences bias in representing women in the text, 2) how the marginalization of women is formed in weakening women's position.

The concept of maritime (maritime) is frequently discussed among the Indonesian people, a fact that may be attributed to the emphasis that has been given to maritime issues by President Joko Widodo since his candidacy. This article applies Faircloughian approach to critical discourse analysis (CDA) to understand the coverage of ‘maritime’ in Indonesian online media. This paradigm has been selected because the media does not simply act as a neutral medium through its publication and coverage; rather, media have specific ideologies, which can be described and analyzed through critical discourse analysis. This approach focuses on three aspects when analyzing written discourses: representations, relations, and identities. Representation refers to specific words and grammatical structures to construct reality; relations refer to the connections between the subjects as depicted in the discourse; and identity refers to reporters’ positions in their coverage of online media, including their biases. In general, relations and identities in Indonesian online media coverage have been oriented towards the government and society. The government has been constructed ambiguously by online media, but depictions of government have tended to be positive, with a focus on the success of its maritime programs.

This research examines online media related to the cases of Indonesian celebrities using critical discourse analysis approach. It aims to explain the textual strategies used by online media upon reporting the cases. The textual strategy focuses on the selection of certain vocabulary and the use of specific grammar. The data are collected through reading and note taking techniques on news texts in the online media, liputan6.com and kapanlagi.com, with certain topics such as: the divorce of Marshanda, Asmirandah interfaith marriage, and the case of celebrity prostitution. The current descriptive qualitative research employs critical discourse analysis proposed by van Dijk which generally believes that media always contains interests and partisanships. Therefore, they tend to provide positive picture of themselves/groups (positive self-presentation) and negative images about others (negative other-presentation).The picture can be analyzed through the way the media use the diction and build certain sentences inside the news. The result shows that media uses the vocabulary such as mothers who have an affair, women who cannot be emulated, presumptuous women, a liar man, no longer Muslim, etc. when reporting on the case of Marshanda’s divorce and Asmirandah’s interfaith marriage. Furthermore, the researcher finds the use of passivation, abstraction, categorization, identification and anonymity strategies in grammar.

The emergence of pornography cases that had gone viral on social media with the tagline "V Garut" shocked the public because the act was committed by a woman and several men. The female suspect claimed that this act was done because of coercion and pressure that the male suspect had put on her. The research aims to explain the level of text, social cognition and social context of the pornography news of "V Garut" on the online media of TribunJabar.id. The research used a qualitative descriptive method with the theoretical approach of critical discourse analysis by Teun A. Van Dijk. Data collection techniques used observation, interviews, and documentation. The research object was related to the news of "V Garut" on the online media TribunJabar.id with two informants. The results of research at the text level in the elements of macrostructures, superstructures and microstructures explain the existence of a discourse indicating an unfavourable situation such as violence and marginalization on the role of "V Garut". Journalists’ social cognition tends to judge this case as “unique” phenomenon, not focusing on a social issue that must be addressed in society. Based on the analysis of the social context of this news, it can be seen that there is a powerful practice of the media and the authority’s access in reporting the “V Garut” case. This study aims to describe the representation of Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (BTP) as a social actor and to reveal the ideological stance of the media in collection of hoax news headlines. The approach used in this study is Fairclough’s three-dimensional model of critical discourse analysis (1995, 2013) with a textual metafunction theory as its analytical tool proposed by Halliday and Mattiessen (2014). The data of this study are 17 hoax news headlines that have been verified by their lies on the website www.turnbackhoax.id. The results of this study are (i) the theme and rheme used in the hoax news headlines can help organize messages and play an important role in the headlines from the perspective of the reader, (ii) BTP was explicitly represented as a social actor in some negative ways in those hoax news headlines such as he is supported by those who are not Pro-Islam, fails to eradicate prostitution, powerful person, not brave and involved in law case, (iii) the media’s ideological stance intentionally contradicted to other national media in publishing the hoax news headlines related to BTP and tended to highlight the news without the clear sources and exaggerate the headlines. Furthermore, the result of this study would be a helpful material source for those who would like to prepare the critical literacy materials, specifically, about how to identify the features of hoax news headlines

General suggestions about the ‘sexualization of culture’ pay too little attention to the ways in which gender shapes the media’s representation of men and women as sexy men and women. As a result, claims to the effect that ‘we are all objectified now’ (i.e. that idealized–sexualized representational strategies are no longer limited to women’s bodies) have proliferated in recent years. In this article, however, it is argued that such claims result from too generic and undifferentiated an understanding of ‘sexualization’. Rather than thinking in terms of ‘the’ process of sexualization, this article seeks to foreground ‘a’ diverse array of practices that tend to coalesce under the heading ‘sexualization’. To do so, it performs a critical discourse analysis on a corpus of national UK newspaper articles in which both a male and a female celebrity scientist are profiled. A discussion of the referential strategies, transitivity choices and strategies of fragmentation and focalization on display in those articles leads not to the claim that ‘we are all objectified now’, but, rather, to the suggestion that the plural pronoun ‘we’ conceals and maintains a definite gender asymmetry.

Abstract: This study examines how the relationship between gender language and ideology is constructed in media texts, and aims to interrogate a small number of articles taken from the most widely read online editions of national newspapers in Indonesia regarding online media reporting on the harassment of women in the "Ikan Asin" case. The focuses of this research are 1) how the women are displayed in the text. 2) How media displays texts, discursive practices that include the production and consumption of texts, and social practices. 3) What are the differences between the Mills and Fairlough critical discourse analysis models? The results of the study are that women are displayed positively even though the case they experience is negative. Text production is closely related to the ideology of journalists and the media as well as the audiences who consume the text. Both Mills and Fairclough's critical discourse analysis models have similarities and differences in analyzing texts. Key Words: Critical Discourse Analysis, Mills, Fairclough, Ikan Asin.
