The problem to be discussed in this research is how the expressive speech acts in the animated film Upin and Ipin are broadcast on MNCTV private television.  Pragmatics is the study of all aspects of meaning that have been covered in semantic theory, or in other words: discussing all aspects of the meaning of speech that cannot be explained completely by direct reference to the conditions of truth of the sentence spoken.  Speech acts are actions that are displayed through utterances to convey one's intentions and goals to others in life situations.  Expressive is a type of speech act that states something the speaker feels. Animated films are films that are the result of processing hand drawings, so that they become moving images. Animated films are basically based on fantasy stories. While the source of data in the research is the animated film Upin and Ipin. This type of research is a qualitative research with descriptive method. After the researchers conducted research and grouped the results of the research data based on expressive speech acts, the researchers obtained 27 data. The speech act of thanking found 5 data, apologizing found 4 data, congratulating found 3 data, praising found 5 data, complaining found 6 data, and blaming found 4 data. The conclusion in this study is that expressive speech acts in the form of complaining are the most commonly found in the animated film Upin and Ipin.

This research aims to find out types of negative politeness strategies expressed by the main character in the movie titled The Imitation Game. This research is categorised as descriptive qualitative research. The data of the research were taken from utterances identified as negative politeness strategies by the main character “Alan Turing” and analysed with theory proposed by (Brown & Levinson, 1988). Data were collected using the observation and non-participatory method. Additionally, to analyse the data, pragmatic identity method were used. The result discovered in this research are; 5 be conveniently indirect, 16 question and hedge, 1 be pessimistic,   6 give deference, 4 impersonalise interlocutors, and 4 state the FTA as the general rule, totalling to 36 indication of negative politeness strategies. Question and hedge became the most frequently used strategy the main character tends to assume unwillingness to comply to the other characters in The Imitation Game movie.

This research aimed at improving and developing the students’ speaking skill by using digital photos online.  This research used zoom meeting aplication in online laerning toward the third grade of SMK Yos Anugrah Batam. The methode applied was a qualitatif research approach by descrining a picture, telling daily activities and telling experience. The research works conducted for three times in order to find out the improvement and the result  of the participants. Each research works end, the partcipants were given test and questionaire to collect the real data by online. Data collected were analysed by scoring the students’ achievement for each activity based on the speaking ability criterion namely unfair, fair, good, very good and exellent. After the data scored through the test addressed to the students, researcher classified and grouped the data, organized and compared the data source, analyse the data, display and expalin the data in text according to the criterion speaking abilty. The result of this research was that the students’ speaking skill was improved and developed shown from the result.

During the pandemic time, almost all educational institutions implement online learning system for their students. This research aims at identifying the concept of online learning and analyzing the types of characteristics that can be formed through online learning. It is expected to contribute as a complement of theory in the fields of humanities, social sciences, and education. It can also be additional material for researchers who are interested in the topic of online learning. The data were obtained from the questionnaire responded by 22 students of the the 6th semester (morning class E) of FKIP UNPRI Medan and the reviewing of a number of relevant literature. As a conceptual analysis study, the data were analyzed by using representation theory to interpret the concept of online learning and its impact which could symbolize certain meanings. The result of analysis suggested that the term “online learning” can basically be conceptualized as a learning system emphasizing freedom which could show efficiency and innovation. The result of analysis also revealed that there were three types of characteristics – curiosity, facing challenges and a sense of responsibility that can be formed as a result of online line study which is considered to contribute to character building.

This article aimed to reveal various forms of arbitrary stereotypes between who is perceived as superior and who is perceived as inferior. By taking data from the play Caesar and Cleopartra (1945) by George B Shaw, the researcher examined various discriminatory and tendentious stereotyping phenomena. Although this drama was raised and raised by the western world by involving the east in it, this is what then triggers a new problem of discriminatory inequality between the west and the east which then forms discriminatory perceptions. By using the postcolonial approach, especially Edward Said's orientalism, the researcher uncovers various myths and phenomena. The method used in this research is a qualitative method with a library data collection system and deep critical analysis. The results of this study indicate that the form of incidental and oriental stereotyping is clearly seen through the depiction in the story. The West through the character of Caesar who represents white superiority carries out various orientalist practices on the character of Cleopatra as a representation of the east. All are quoted in their actions, attitudes, character, and disposition

This research was motivated by the Covid-19 pandemic which changed the order of life, including in the world of education. Online learning is a solution so that learning continues even with all its advantages and disadvantages. However, it needs adjustments both in terms of lecturers and students in its implementation. In the learning process, the main things that must exist include: teaching and learning process, competence of lecturers and facilities and infrastructure. The purpose of this study was to analyze students' perceptions of online learning in the Critical and Creative Reading course at UMMY Solok. This type of research is survey research. The data collection technique is in the form of a questionnaire, the questionnaire used is a closed questionnaire type in the form of a rating scale, namely a questionnaire that has available answers, then analyzed using descriptive statistics. The results of this study explain that the learning process is categorized as good, lecturer competence is in good category, and facilities and infrastructure are in sufficient category. From the results, it can be concluded that in online learning the teaching and learning process has been going well and the competence of lecturers in providing learning is also good even though the facilities and infrastructure are still lacking. Improvements are needed not only in terms of students and lecturers but also the campus.

The purpose of this study was to describe conventional implicatures in the Republic of Social Media Segment 4 (Roasting) on ​​Trans TV. The theories used in this study include: (a) the nature of pragmatics, (b) the nature of implicatures, (c) conventional implicatures, and (d) the Republic of Social Media program on Trans TV. This research used a descriptive method. Sources of data in this study were comics and guest stars in the Republik Sosmed program in segment 4 (Roasting) on ​​Trans TV. The results of this study include: (a) on the Republic of Social Media program segment 4 (roasting), there were 5 conventional implicature data, (b) on October 08, 2017 presented comic Ridwan Remin, there were 2 conventional implicature data, (c) on October 14, 2017 presented comic Ridwan Remin, there were 3 implicature data, (d) on October 15 2017 presenting comic Yuda Keling, there were 3 conventional implicature data, (e) on October 21 2017 presenting comics Tretan and Rizki, there was 1 conventional implicature data, (f) on October 22, 2017 presenting the comics Tretan and Coki, there were 2 conventional implicature data, (g) on ​​October 28, 2017 presenting, the comic Yuda Keling there was 1 conventional implicature data, and (h) on October 29, 2017 presenting the comic Yuda Keling, there were 3 conventional implicature data.

This descriptive qualitative research essentially aimed to find out the types of code mixing on Brown Sugar Battle video. Titan Tyra published the video on June 17th, 2019. The researchers chose the utterances of Titan Tyra that contained code mixing as the data source of this research. In collecting the data, the researchers conducted observational method and non-participatory technique. Additionally, in analyzing the data, the researchers applied bilingual-differentiating identification method and differentiating comparative link technique. Furthermore, the researcher applied the theory of code mixing proposed by Muysken (2000). The result revealed that the speaker frequently inserted English words and phrases in the utterance of Indonesian language. The speaker mixed language to do the review of brown sugar drink. From 53 data, there were 31 data of insertion and 22 data of congruent lexicalization. The type of insertion became the most frequently uttered type. Also, the speaker did not utter English clause in utterances.

Literary works are never separated from previous works or other texts. “Aku Dipenogoro!” is a literary work in the form of a drama script written by Landung Simatupang which was inspired by the power of divination by Peter Carey. The process of forming a literary work based on the acceptance of the past works can be said to be a reception. Therefore, this study used a reception approach to see how far the acceptance of previous works in Aku Dipenogoro!. The method used in this study is descriptive qualitative. In this case, the researcher compares the texts by looking at the similarities and differences. Furthermore, the findings are described. Based on the results of the analysis conducted by Aku Dipenogoro! as a literary work made several changes from the previous work (Peter Carey's Power of Prediction). These changes are used to give a dramatic effect in the work. Improvisation is used to get certain effects and aesthetics in a work. As a drama script Aku Dipenogoro! refers to dramatic effects in the performing arts (theater).

The purpose of this research is to reveal how the phenomenon of breaking the practice of apartheid construction toward the black race in the escape from Pretoria movie. The construction of apartheid has placed the black race under the domination of the white race and this behavior is legitimate in the everyday life of society. The dichotomy that places the black race as an inferior race has become a normal habit in society.  By using a historical approach, the researchers revealed how the apartheid construction was exposed through the black racial figures in the movie. Qualitative descriptions with historical approach analysis techniques were used as the method in this study. The results of this study reveal: the first, the apartheid construction phenomenon that occurred in the movie. The second is the efforts by breaking the apartheid construction from in movie. The phenomena found related to the construction of apartheid in the movie include: 1) the paradigm of society that perceives whites to be better than blacks, 2) racism. Breaking the habits is revealed through the character Tim Jenkin by changing the paradigm of thinking of the white race after escaping from a Pretoria prison.
