ABSTRACT Objective: to know the perception of nurses, undergraduate students, and professors about the competencies for professional nurses in elder care. Methods: this is a qualitative analytical study developed with six professors, four nurses, and 12 nursing students. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analyzed using Fiorin’s Discourse technique, with support from the MAXQDA software. Results: the competencies identified included knowledge of theories and general concepts of gerontology, communication, listening, leadership, teamwork, proactivity, respect, and empathy. Final considerations: knowing the competencies contributes to understanding the aging process and qualifying nurses for elder care.

Background and PurposeThis study explored the psychometric properties of the Creighton Competency Evaluation Instrument (C-CEI), previously validated for use with nursing students, to assess simulation performance among registered nurses working 12-hour shifts. Valid and reliable measurements are needed to test clinical and simulation competencies and characterize the effects of fatigue on nursing performance.MethodsTrained raters scored nurses' patient care performance in simulation scenarios using the C-CEI. We analyzed the instrument's principal components, internal reliability, and construct validity.ResultsInternal reliability of the C-CEI aggregate score and the Clinical Decision-making component were high (>.70). The latter robustly correlated with predicted cognitive effectiveness, a measure of fatigue.ConclusionsThe C-CEI is a reliable measure for use among registered nurses and its further development will be important for testing performance of working nurses and fatigue-mitigation innovations.

Introduction: Preceptorship is clinical education for nursing students by conducting constructive partnerships between nurse educators and practitioners. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to find out the effectiveness of the preceptorship programme using the Stake Model Evaluation Programme in terms of aspects antecedents, transactions, outcomes and behaviours. Methods: This study uses descriptive design with quantitative and qualitative approaches. The sample consists of 131 students, 22 clinical preceptors and 22 academic preceptors. The quantitative data were collected using questionnaires, observation and document studies. Qualitative study was conducted using an interview. Descriptive analysis uses mean, standard deviation, percentage, frequency distribution and qualitative analysis using a content analysis. Results: The study evaluation found that at antecedent stage. About 68.2% to 90.9% clinical preceptors had a good preparation on the student preparation stages as perceived by the academic preceptor and preceptee. While in the stage of transaction, preceptors are able to teach nursing care and students to perform nursing care from simple to complex in accordance with the competencies achieved.  Only less than half (45.5%) of students had good implementation of nursing care, including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation.  However, more than 68% of them showed good professional attitudes and communication. The outcome phase obtained consistency in the result of the practice phase with the national competency test with value from 76.2% to 97.4%.Conclusion: The majority of the antecedent, transaction stage, and outcome showed an average condition which requires an improvement in order to provide a good quality education programme. Future studies may also need to design an alternative approach for students’ supervision in clinic.

Abstract Objective: When applying the ”golden lesson” concept to pediatric nursing teaching, under the condition that the two evaluation models support each other, study the application effect of the new teaching concept in the teaching process.Method: Two classes of nursing major of 2018 were used as the golden lesson group and the tradition group. The tradition group used traditional teaching methods, and the golden lesson group used the ”golden class” concept combined with the ”Internet +” platform for teaching. After the course, compare the two groups of students’ problem-solving scores and their theoretical and practical scores. Results: The problem-solving ability of the students in the golden lesson group was better than the tradition group in terms of ”negative problem orientation”, ”avoidance style” and ”impulsive/negligence style” [(8.75±1.32VS12.59±4.7) points, (11.14±2.4) VS13.86±2.36) points, (8.59±2.55VS10.53±2.03)] (P<0.05).Conclusion: This teaching mode conforms to the professional development characteristics of nursing students, helps to improve students’ problem-solving ability and strengthens their thinking, but it also puts forward more requirements on teachers’ teaching and practical experience.
