Abstract. Purpose of work. Study of sources of domestic and world literature on the problem of diagnosing post-traumatic disorders in patients with concomitant thoracic trauma. According to the literature, the features of the diagnosis of post-traumatic disorders and the possibility of using various methods when using laboratory and instrumental studies in patients with concomitant thoracic trauma were determined. Materials and methods. A review of the authors’ references on the bases of literary sources on laboratory and instrumental studies in patients with concomitant thoracic trauma is carried out. Conclusions. To improve the results of reducing the level of possible complications and their correction, it is necessary to develop complex clinical, instrumental and laboratory differential diagnostic criteria with the definition of biochemical markers, as well as their pathogenetic justification for improving tactics and increasing the effectiveness of intensive therapy in patients of this category.

Summary. The data presented in the article convincingly testify to the formation of the clinical problem of intensive therapy for thoracic trauma in patients with polytrauma, which has not yet been fully resolved to date. Further studies of the clinical features and the choice of diagnostic criteria are required taking into account the injuries received in concomitant chest trauma, further study of the content of surfactant protein D (SP-D) and ceruloplasmin in blood plasma in patients with thoracic injury with polytrauma in the early post-traumatic period, which would create algorithm of treatment and diagnostic tactics to improve the conduct of intensive care. To reduce the level of possible complications and their correction, it is necessary to develop complex clinical, instrumental and laboratory differential diagnostic criteria by identifying biochemical markers, as well as their pathogenetic substantiation when improving tactics and increasing the effectiveness of intensive therapy in patients of this category.

This work aims to reorganize theoretical and empirical research on smart mobility through the systematic literature review approach. The research goal is to reach an extended and shared definition of smart mobility using the cluster analysis. The article provides a summary of the state of the art that can have broader impacts in determining new angles for approaching research. In particular, the results will be a reference for future quantitative developments for the authors who are working on the construction of a territorial measurement model of the smartness degree, helping them in identifying performance indicators consistent with the definition proposed.

AbstractThe present article focuses on the function of mythic journeys with regard to the problem of death and the transience of human life in two selected Mesopotamian literary sources: the Gilgamesh-Epic IX–XI and the Descent of Ishtar to the Underworld. The selected texts are analysed and compared from the perspective of a functionalist definition of religious symbol systems, with particular attention to the transformation involved in travelling through different cosmic regions. The structure of the journey, the characterisation of the different regions visited by the protagonist, and the changes provoked by the mythic travel evince similarities and differences in the strategies employed to produce a religious orientation dealing with the ineluctable limits of life.

The coronavirus disease of 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic rapidly spread around the world, resulting in massive medical morbidity and mortality and substantial mental health consequences. Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is an important psychiatric disorder associated with disasters, and many published scientific articles have reported post-traumatic stress syndromes in populations studied for COVID-19 mental health outcomes. American diagnostic criteria for PTSD have evolved across editions of the manual, and the current definition excludes naturally occurring medical illness (such as viral illness) as a qualifying trauma, ruling out this viral pandemic as the basis for a diagnosis of PTSD. This article provides an in-depth nosological consideration of the diagnosis of PTSD and critically examines three essential elements (trauma, exposure, and symptomatic response) of this diagnosis, specifically applying these concepts to the mental health outcomes of the COVID-19 pandemic. The current criteria for PTSD are unsatisfying for guiding the response to mental health consequences associated with this pandemic, and suggestions are made for addressing the conceptual diagnostic problems and designing research to resolve diagnostic uncertainties empirically. Options might be to revise the diagnostic criteria or consider categorization of COVID-19-related psychiatric syndromes as non-traumatic stressor-related syndromes or other psychiatric disorders.

Whether animal personality studies provide insights of broader evolutionary and ecological relevance to behavioural ecology is frequently questioned. One source of controversy is the vast, but often vague conceptual terminology used. From a statistical perspective, animal personality is defined as repeatable among-individual variance in behaviour; however, numerous conceptual definitions of animal personality exist. Here, we performed a 1) self-report questionnaire and 2) systematic literature review to quantify how researchers interpret conceptual and statistical definitions commonly used in animal personality research. We also investigated whether results from the questionnaire agree with those of the literature review. Among the 430 self-reported researchers that participated in our questionnaire, we observed discrepancies in key questions such as the conceptual definition of animal personality or the interpretation of repeatability. Our literature review generally confirmed the global patterns revealed by the questionnaire. Overall, we identified common disagreements in animal personality research and discussed potential solutions. We advocate for the usage of statistically-oriented terminology because conceptual definitions can seemingly be interpreted at multiple levels of biological organization. We expect that adopting such statistically-oriented terminology will, at least partly, avoid the confusion generated by the label “animal personality”, and ultimately help to clarify and move the field forward.
