ABSTRACT: BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVE: There has been limited understanding of role of emotional intelligence in education and also limited understanding of emotional intelligence levels in teaching and clinical practice. The aim of the current study is to investigate the level of emotional intelligence in medical teachers and see whether emotional intelligence differs in male/female and senior/junior faculty. METHODOLOGY: A cross sectional survey was conducted at Poonch Medical College (PMC), Rawalakot, AJK for 2 months i.e. July to August 2018. Faculty (n=117) from basic pay scale-17 to 21, of basic and clinical sciences departments were included in study after informed consent. Data were collected using “Leadership Toolkit Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire.” Descriptive and inferential statistics were calculated to measure the level of emotional intelligence in faculty members and to quantify variations across gender and position. RESULTS: The response rate in this study was (92.3%) 108/117. There were 56 (51.9%) female and 52 (48.1%) male respondents. Majority of the faculty members 69 (63.9%) were junior level teachers whereas 39 (36.1%) were senior level faculty. The overall mean emotional intelligence was 178.4 ± 21.4, which did not vary across male, and females, or level positions. Self-awareness, was found higher in females (39.9 versus 38.2), however this difference was statistically insignificant (p-value, 0.12). The mean score in managing emotions were also slightly higher in females (33.1 versus 32.5). CONCLUSION: The medical faculty at PMC, AJK has a reasonably high level of emotional intelligence. There was no difference in the overall emotional intelligence levels across gender and position.

Background: Information technology (IT) is a new way of teaching and learning. One of the promising media of information technology is e-Learning, which is used to enhance knowledge and skills among users. A student gains better and deep knowledge through a useful tool. This survey aimed to determine practices among medical students for e-Learning. Methods: This cross-sectional survey was conducted on 184 students amongst the 500 students currently enrolled in medical college. Data was collected using questionnaires and were analyzed through SPSS version 22. Chi-square was used for qualitative values. Results: Majority 90.80% (n=167) students were aware of e-Learning and were statistically high in first year students (p-value: 0.018). The student did not show statistically significant results for content learned through e-Learning with a p-value of 0.063. Different resources were used for e-Learning in which videos had the highest percentage (87.60%) and audios were used as the least resource for e-Learning (29.20%). Daily, 56% of the students use e-Learning for 1 hour or less and only 3% of the students used it for more than 4 hours. Conclusion: Majority of undergraduate medical students were aware of the use of e-Learning and most of them preferred e-Learning for their course work and studies showing a significant increase in understanding and use, compared to studies conducted earlier. Participants found e-Learning useful and effective tool in increasing knowledge and understanding of their subject. Keywords: e-Learning; Practices; Students.

Objective: Objective Structured Practical Examination (OSPE) is a growing way of assessing the students of medical universities particularly. This study is targeted to compare and assess different perceptions of the faculty and the students towards OSPE at a public sector medical college. Study Design: Cross Sectional Survey. Setting: Sahiwal Medical College Sahiwal. Period: 1st July 2020 to 15th July 2020. Material & Methods: The questionnaire was sent to all the participants by Whatsapp because of COVID-19 pandemic. All the undergrad students of MBBS (500) and all the faculty members (65) of clinical and basic medical sciences were included in the study. Results: The response rate of faculty members was 78.46% and that of undergraduate students was 70.80%. Out of 51 members who responded, 23 (45.10%) were males while 28 (54.90%) were female. Female students were having majority of participation (71.20%). Most of the faculty and students agreed with the fact that ‘The questions asked in the OSPE stations were appropriate and related to the curriculum’ (60.10% and 45.10% respectively). Response to a question ‘OSPE is more transparent, fair and objective as compared to traditional practical examination’ got a nod from faculty members (49%). Almost 76% of the students (strongly agreed and agreed) thought that OSPE was tiring and stressful for them but their respected faculty members thought the opposite. Conclusion: Our study concludes that there is satisfaction of both students and the faculty regarding their perceptions of OSPE at public sector medical college. In our study while comparing, the majority of both the groups were having almost same opinions.

Introduction: Faculty development (FD) is defined broadly as the range of activities that institutions use to assist faculty in their roles and fields including teaching, research and administration. And faculty is now expected to be more effective and creative in their teaching methods. Objectives: To determine the needs assessment for faculty development. Study Design: Cross sectional study. Place and duration of study: Wah Medical College, January- June 2019.  Methodology: A questionnaire was prepared after the review of literature. It had two parts; demographic profile and responses of the faculty on various aspects regarding needs assessment. Questionnaires were distributed to all the faculty members of college. Data was analyzed by SPSS and frequencies were calculated. T-test was used with p value of 0.05. Result: 90 faculty members responded back. Out of these 90, 34(37.8%) were in favor of 1 workshop per year. 59(65.6%)wanted half day workshop. 75(83.3%) members wanted workshops to be on weeks days. 66(73.3%) favored one-day workshops. 71(78.9%), 47(52.2%), 38(42.2%) don’t attend workshops due to lack of time, institutional support, trained facilitators respectively. Conclusion: We concluded that the Wah medical college faculty is in need of faculty development programs that should be conducted by the medical education department with in the college. The college should facilitate the faculty in the best possible way especially considering the limitations and responsibilities of the female faculty.

Methods: The cross-sectional survey was conducted on the faculty at undergraduate dental school. The self-designed e-survey was administered to 78 faculty members to assess their knowledge and attitudes towards the COVID-19 disease. Data analysis was conducted by using SPSS version 23. Descriptive statistics were reported as frequency and percentages. Chi-square test was utilized to identify the correlation between the independent and dependent variables. The inferential statistics (Kruskal-Wallis tests and Mann-Whitney U test) were utilized for assessing the significance between study variables. The association between knowledge and attitude was evaluated by using Spearman’s rank correlation coefficient. Results: A total of 55 faculty members (70.5%) responded. Mean knowledge score was 10± 2.71. 37 (67.3%) respondents showed positive attitude towards COVID-19 while 18(32.7%) displayed negative attitude. The mean attitude score was 4.08±0.50. Significant difference was found in knowledge (p-value=0.04) and attitude (p-value=0.015) of dental faculty based on designation.Conclusions: Qassim University dentists were mindful of the COVID-19 symptoms, means of transmission, Cross-infection control and operative protocols practiced within dental clinics. However, dentists exhibited inadequate knowledge about the specific dental procedures that safeguard the dental staff and patients from COVID-19 in context of current outbreak.

Introduction: The level of knowledge of college students about Coronavirus-19 (Covid19) will affect to precaution the spread of this disease. Students as intellectuals can be at the forefront of breaking the chain of the spread of Covid19. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between the knowledge of Mandalika University of Science (UNDIKMA) college students about the spread of Covid19 and the level of anxiety and precaution the spread of Covid19. Method: This study used a cross-sectional survey with a questionnaire. The questionnaire was distributed to 38 of 325 UNDIKMA college students registered in PDDikti with the purposive sampling method. The modified questionnaire instrument from the WHO Survey Tool and Guidance was sent via email and Whatsapp from May to June 2020. Data on the level of college student’s knowledge about the spread of Covid19, anxiety and precautions the spread of Covid19 will be analyzed using the chi-square test. Result and Discussion: The level of college student’s knowledge with a high category about the spread of Covid19 was 52.6%, the level of college student’s anxiety with a high category was 57.9%, and the level of precaution the spread of Covid19 for college students with a good category was 55.3% from 38 students. The results of the bivariate analysis on the relationship between the level of college student’s knowledge about the spread of Covid19 and the level of anxiety were not significant with p> 0.05 (p-value = 0.064), the relationship between the level of college student’s knowledge about the spread of Covid19 and the precaution of the spread of Covid19 not significant with p> 0.05 (p-value = 0.064).Conclusion: The high level of college student’s knowledge of Mandalika University of Science (UNDIKMA) about the spread of Covid19 showed no a significant relationship with anxiety and precautions the spread Covid19 in West Nusa Tenggara at pandemic situation so learning models that can reduce anxiety and raise awareness to take precaution the spread of Covid19 are needed in a disease pandemic situation.

AbstractThe role of knowledge in dealing with depression is to help individuals recognize theexistence in this world by expanding self-awareness, find himself again and is responsiblefor the direction of his life. Initial survey results indicate that the 3 (three) respondenexperienced the characteristics of someone who is depressed by the low level ofknowledge. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship of knowledgeabout the aging process with a level of depression in elderly Majasto Village, DistrictTawangsari, Sukoharjo.Subject of this study was elderly people in the village Majasto, based on an initial surveyfound as many as 65 elderly. This research method in this study an analytic correlationwith cross sectional approach. Data collection tool used is a questionnaire to measure thelevel of knowledge of the aging process with depression from Majasto village.Results of the study there were respondents with a high level of knowledge nothing isseverely depressed, two respondents had moderate depression and 10 respondents didnot experience depression and 3 respondents with a low level of knowledge into a deepdepression and 2nd respondents had moderate depression. the results of Chi-Square testwith SPSS version 18.0 with α = 5% (0:05) was obtained p <0.001 to p value of <0.05,which means that Ho refused and Ha accepted. Conclusion of this study there is arelationship between the level of knowledge about the aging process with a level ofdepression in residents in the village Majasto Tawangsari Sukoharjo.Keywords: knowledge, depression

IQ is considered as a true criterion of intelligence while emotional intelligence is considered as a decisive in order tobe happy and successful in life. It is of interest to the educational system that emotional intelligence can bedeveloped at the same time. Emotional intelligence gained in the family will help to improve the school life,overcome the obstacles that people will encounter in their lives and solve the problems. In this study, emotionalintelligence levels and problem solving skills of the prospective teachers were examined according to differentvariables. In this study, the cross sectional survey design was used to investigate the research questions with 1033prospective teachers, 813 of whom were women and 220 were men, who agreed to participate in the study. The studygroup was chosen from the students of education faculty of the public university located near the black see region ofTurkey. As a means of collecting data, the Bar-On Emotional Intelligence Scale, the Problem Solving Scale, and thePersonal Information Form were used to obtain data from the participants. As a result of the study, the problemsolving skills of prospective teachers don’t differ according to gender and the class level; It was also found thatemotional intelligence did not differ according to gender and the class level, but it had a significant differenceaccording to age and department variables. In line with these results, in order to educate teachers with high level ofemotional intelligence and problem solving skills, attention should be paid to the emotional characteristics of theteacher candidates. The change of emotional intelligence with different factors should be examined in follow upstudies.
