Abstract ObjectivesThis study is conducted to investigate efficacy of pomegranate juice on inflammatory biomarkers, C-reactive protein (CRP), interleukin 6(IL-6), erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) and complete blood count (CBC) in hospitalized patients with mild to moderate coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID- 19).Trial DesignThis is a randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind, parallel 2-arm (1:1 ratio) clinical trial.

The objective of the current study was to determine the impact of three different anaesthetic protocols on blood and biochemical parameters. Eighteen female Wistar rats (HsdOla:WI) 3 months old, weighting 197.09 ± 7.39 g were used. Baseline blood collection was performed in all animals from the lateral coccygeal vein for evaluation of glucose. The animals were then randomly allocated to receive one of three different anaesthetic protocols: dexmedetomidine/ketamine intramuscularly (0.25 mg/kg and 50 mg/kg respectively), or isoflurane 0.2 ml on cotton inside a syringe case, or isoflurane administered by vaporiser (5% induction and 2-3% maintenance of anaesthesia, delivered in oxygen flow 1 L/min). Blood samples were collected from caudal vena cava for complete blood count and biochemical analysis, while the lung and the liver were harvested for histological evaluation. Comparison between groups, as far as complete blood count parameters is concerned, revealed statistical significant differences in red blood cells, haematocrit and haemoglobin values with lower values being observed in vaporiser anaesthesia group. Furthermore, within group comparison revealed statistical significant differences for glucose in all three groups. No evidence of inflammatory, degenerative neoplastic or toxicity related lesions were observed during histological evaluation of the lung and liver.

The purpose of this study is firstly, to establish the haemato-biochemical reference values of the indigenous canine breed in Batna area of Algeria as related to the gender effect. For this reason, 20 apparently healthy local dogs were used. A complete blood count and the serum biochemical parameters analysed here remained mostly within the physiological reference intervals. The effect of sex was only observed in the platelet count, which is higher in female dogs, whereas the creatinine level is higher in male dogs. The second part is devoted to evaluating the haemato-biochemical parameters in dogs with moderate to severe gastroenteritis infections. A total of 37 diseased dogs were selected and classified into two groups – diseased vaccinated dogs and diseased unvaccinated dogs – to establish the haemato-biochemical parameters. Haemato-biochemical investigation shows significant alteration in diseased unvaccinated dogs than other groups.

Abstract The objective of this study was to compare and correlate the ecology of neonates and young individuals of Potamotrygon wallacei, Potamotrygon motoro and Paratrygon aiereba with regard to their hematological profile and the physicochemical parameters of the water that they inhabit. Principal component analysis (PCA) on the complete blood count revealed total variation of 72.92%, thus demonstrating a differentiation system for oxygen demand. On the other hand, P. motoro was considered to be an intermediate species, given that its complete blood count characteristics interacted with both P. wallacei and with P. aiereba. The interaction among the biochemical variables was shown to total 64.67% of the factors. This allowed differentiation of P. wallacei from P. aiereba, while P. motoro maintained an intermediate position. These characteristics of differentiation within the preferred environment corroborate the PCA of the present study and confirm that these species can be differentiated through considering the complete blood count and biochemical parameters. The PCA on water properties showed 68.57% differentiation, mainly comprising the x axis (49.44%). It can be affirmed that P. motoro has the capacity to inhabit the preferential areas of P. wallacei and P. aiereba, as well as occupying localities in which other stingrays are not found. In conclusion, P. wallacei presents patterns differentiating it from P. aiereba, while P. motoro is a species that presents intermediate characteristics. The latter can be considered to be a more broadly distributed species regarding its ecophysiological characteristics.

Aim: In our study, we investigated the efficiency of the prognostic nutritional index (PNI) score and the CRP, age, platelet count, albumin level (CAPA) score predicting mortality and intensive care unit (ICU) admission in COVID-19 disease. Materials & methods: PNI and CAPA score of patients confirmed with COVID-19 calculated by using the complete blood count and biochemical parameters at admission to the hospital, in predicting the COVID-19-associated mortality and ICU admission were analyzed. Results: PNI and CAPA scores in predicting mortality were detected as AUC: 0.67 (p < 0.001), AUC: 0.71 (p < 0.001), respectively. For predicting ICU admission AUC was 0.66 (p < 0.001), AUC was 0.77 (p < 0.001), respectively. Conclusion: PNI and CAPA scores are effective scores in COVID-19, with CAPA score being better in predicting mortality and ICU admission.
