Abstract Endophytic fungi are a ubiquituos group that colonize all plant species on earth. Studies comparing the location of endophytic fungi within the leaves and the sampling time in Manihot esculenta Crantz (cassava) are limited. In this study, mature leaves of M. esculenta from Panama were collected in order to compare the cultivable diversity of endophytic fungi and to determine their distribution within the leaves. A total of one hundred sixty endophytes belonging to 97 species representing 13 genera and 8 morphospecies determined as mycelia sterilia that containing 63 isolates were isolated. Cladosporium, Nigrospora, Periconia, and mycelia sterilia 1 and 3 were the most predominant isolated endophytes. We detected that endophytes varied across the sampling time, but not amongst locations within leaves. The endophytes composition across sampling and the location of endophytes within leaf was similar, except for Periconia and mycelia sterilia 3 and 7. The data generated in this study contribute to the knowledge on the biodiversity of endophytic fungi in Panama, and establish the bases for future research focused on understanding the function of endophytes in M. esculenta crops.

Landing on a moving platform is an essential requirement to achieve high-performance autonomous flight with various vehicles, including quadrotors. We propose an efficient and reliable autonomous landing system, based on model predictive control, which can accurately land in the presence of external disturbances. To detect and track the landing marker, a fast two-stage algorithm is introduced in the gimbaled camera, while a model predictive controller with variable sampling time is used to predict and calculate the entire landing trajectory based on the estimated platform information. As the quadrotor approaches the target platform, the sampling time is gradually shortened to feed a re-planning process that perfects the landing trajectory continuously and rapidly, improving the overall accuracy and computing efficiency. At the same time, a cascade incremental nonlinear dynamic inversion control method is adopted to track the planned trajectory and improve robustness against external disturbances. We carried out both simulations and outdoor flight experiments to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed landing system. The results show that the quadrotor can land rapidly and accurately even under external disturbance and that the terminal position, speed and attitude satisfy the requirements of a smooth landing mission.

Background: Tacrolimus (TAC) is an important immunosuppressant for children with primary nephrotic syndrome (PNS). The relationship between sampling time variability in TAC therapeutic drug monitoring and dosage regimen in such children is unknown.Methods: In this single-center, prospective, observational study, we evaluated the sampling time variability, concentration error (CE), relative CE (RCE), and the impact of the sampling time on TAC dosage regimens in 112 PNS children with 188 blood samples. Nominal concentration (Cnom) at 12-h after last TAC dose was simulated based on observed concentration (Cobs) via previously published pharmacokinetic models, then CE and RCE were calculated. Inappropriate dosing adjustments resulting from deviated sampling time were evaluated based on a target Cnom of 5–10 ng/ml.Results: We found that 32 and 68% of samples were respectively collected early (2–180 min) and delayed (4–315 min). Furthermore, 24, 22, 22, and 32% of blood samples were drawn within deviations of ≤0.5, 0.5–1, 1–2, and >2 h, respectively, and 0.3 ng/ml of CE and 6% RCE per hour of deviation occurred. Within a deviation of >2 h, 25% of Cobs might result in inappropriate dosing adjustments. Early and delayed sampling might result in inappropriate dose holding or unnecessary dose increments, respectively, in patients with Cobs ∼ 5 ng/ml.Conclusions: Variable sampling time might lead to inappropriate dosing adjustment in a minority of children with PNS, particularly those with TAC Cobs ∼ 5 ng/ml collected with a deviation of >2 h.

In a cross-sectional analysis of a population-based cohort (United Kingdom, N = 21,318, 1993–1998), we studied how associations between meal patterns and non-fasting triglyceride and glucose concentrations were influenced by the hour of day at which the blood sample was collected to ascertain face validity of reported meal patterns, as well as the influence of reporting bias (assessed using formula of energy expenditure) on this association. Meal size (i.e., reported energy content), mealtime and meal frequency were reported using pre-structured 7-day diet diaries. In ANCOVA, sex-specific means of biomarker concentrations were calculated by hour of blood sample collection for quartiles of reported energy intake at breakfast, lunch and dinner (meal size). Significant interactions were observed between breakfast size, sampling time and triglyceride concentrations and between lunch size, sampling time and triglyceride, as well as glucose concentrations. Those skipping breakfast had the lowest triglyceride concentrations in the morning and those skipping lunch had the lowest triglyceride and glucose concentrations in the afternoon, especially among acceptable energy reporters. Eating and drinking occasion frequency was weakly associated with glucose concentrations in women and positively associated with triglyceride concentrations in both sexes; stronger associations were observed for larger vs. smaller meals and among acceptable energy reporters. Associations between meal patterns and concentration biomarkers can be observed when accounting for diurnal variation and underreporting. These findings support the use of 7-day diet diaries for studying associations between meal patterns and health.

Soft open point (SOP) can improve the flexibility and reliability of power supplies; thus, they are widely used in distribution network systems. Traditional single-vector model predictive control (SV-MPC) can quickly and flexibly control the power and current at both ports of the SOP. However, SV-MPC can only select one voltage vector in a sampling time, producing large current ripples, and power fluctuations. In order to solve the above problems, this paper proposes a three-vector-based low complexity model predictive control (TV-MPC). In the proposed control method, two effective voltage vectors and one zero voltage vector are selected in a sampling time. For the two-port SOP, methods are given to judge the sectors on both sides and select the voltage vectors. Furthermore, the calculation method of the distribution time is proposed as well. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed method is verified by steady-state and dynamic-state simulation results compared with the SV-MPC.

Background and Objective: It is not clear how the short-term continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) sampling time could influence the bias in estimating long-term glycemic control. A large bias could, in the worst case, lead to incorrect classification of patients achieving glycemic targets, nonoptimal treatment, and false conclusions about the effect of new treatments. This study sought to investigate the relation between sampling time and bias in the estimates. Methods: We included a total of 329 type 1 patients (age 14-86 years) with long-term CGM (90 days) data from three studies. The analysis calculated the bias from estimating long-term glycemic control based on short-term sampling. Time in range (TIR), time above range (TAR), time below range (TBR), correlation, and glycemic target classification accuracy were assessed. Results: A sampling time of ten days is associated with a high bias of 10% to 47%, which can be reduced to 4.9% to 26.4% if a sampling time of 30 days is used ( P < .001). Correct classification of patients archiving glycemic targets can also be improved from 81.5% to 91.9 to 90% to 95.2%. Conclusions: Our results suggest that the proposed 10-14 day CGM sampling time may be associated with a high correlation with three-month CGM. However, these estimates are subject to large intersubject bias, which is clinically relevant. Clinicians and researchers should consider using assessments of longer durations of CGM data if possible, especially when assessing time in hypoglycemia or while testing a new treatment.

Pedestrian Navigation System (PNS) is one of the research focuses of indoor positioning in GNSS-denied environments based on the MEMS Inertial Measurement Unit (MIMU). However, in the foot-mounted pedestrian navigation system with MIMU or mobile phone as the main carrier, it is difficult to make the sampling time of gyros and accelerometers completely synchronous. The gyro-accelerometer asynchronous time affects the positioning of PNS. To solve this problem, a new error model of gyro-accelerometer asynchronous time is built. The effect of gyro-accelerometer asynchronous time on pedestrian navigation is analyzed. A filtering model is designed to calibrate the gyro-accelerometer asynchronous time, and a zero-velocity detection method based on the rate of attitude change is proposed. The indoor experiment shows that the gyro-accelerometer asynchronous time is estimated effectively, and the positioning accuracy of PNS is improved by the proposed method after compensating for the errors caused by gyro-accelerometer asynchronous time.

The impacts of deforestation on edaphic mesostigmatid mites were investigated in oak forests of Lordegan, southwestern Iran, from April to October. A total of twenty-one species belonging to eighteen genera and ten families were collected and identified. The Shannon-Wiener, Simpson, Jaccard's and Margalef biodiversity indices were used for data analyses. Among the collected species, Antennoseius bacatus with 29% and Sessilunchus hungaricus with 16% relative abundance were the most abundant and dominant species in human-disturbed and natural forests, respectively. The estimated values were higher in natural oak forest than in disturbed and cultivated habitat. Significant differences were observed in soil nitrogen content and soil organic carbon between the two habitats, but not in pH values. Significant effects of sampling time and habitat were found on all four indices, but the effect of their interactions on these indices was not significant. It can be concluded that the changes in soil quality that resulted from deforestation may have a major role in reducing the soil mite density and related diversity indices in disturbed forests.

This work aimed to investigate the bio-distribution and the persistence of fipronil and its primary metabolite fipronil sulfone after oral and dermal administration by simulating natural farming conditions. Fipronil and fipronil sulfone detection and quantification were performed in different poultry matrices using an LC-MS/MS method coupled with modified QuEChERS extraction. After oral administration, fipronil was detected in feathers at each sampling time, in eggs for 28 days, and in the internal organs at the end of the experiment. After dermal administration, high levels of fipronil were detected in feathers, accounting for 195.85 ± 8.54 mg/kg, which were reduced by a third after 60 days. No traces of fipronil were detected in the eggs or internal organs. In addition, fipronil sulfone showed remarkable residues in all samples in trial 2. The data obtained confirmed that inappropriate use of unauthorized pesticides can lead to severe contamination of entire poultry farms. The contemporary presence of fipronil sulfone in feathers and eggs associated with the lack of fipronil in eggs suggests recent dermal contamination or past oral contamination. Moreover, simultaneous analysis of hens’ feathers and eggs could represent a new method to improve large-scale monitoring programs and animal welfare, limiting their slaughter.
