Through construction and operation over the last 25 years, the Pohang light source (PLS) and the PLS-II (upgrade of PLS) have played a key role in developments in the vacuum and semiconductor industries, civil engineering, surveying, and even in the building technology of Korea. The PLS has actively contributed to developments in chemical engineering and bio-technology, which directly affect industry and people’s life. In this article, the status of the PLS-II will be described, and the future of the PLS-II will be introduced.

The Journal of Civil Engineering and Management (JCEM) is a prestigious international journal in the field of engineering. This paper uses the method of bibliometric to study the status and development trends of the journal. Information was collected from the Science Citation Index (SCI) database. Firstly, the general citation structure and basic characteristics of the JCEM journal are investigated. Then, the most influential institutions, countries as well as their networks of cooperation are identified. Finally, the main research topics of the JCEM journal are explored by using the frequently used keywords. This paper explores the internal structure and development trend of the JCEM journal, which not only provides an important reference for the future development of this journal, but also provides an effective analysis method for the future evaluation of journals.

This study explored the underlying processes associated with the policy of increasing qualified physical education teachers (QPETs) in Singapore primary schools. Data were collected from the National Archives of Singapore, Newslink, NewpaperSG and documents. An ‘archaeological analysis’ by Foucault (1972) was used to trace the discursive conditions which enabled and facilitated the policy. Three distinct elements were borrowed from ‘The Archaeology of Knowledge and the Discourse on Language’, namely: the status – as reflected in the positions of individuals influencing the PE policies and initiatives; the institutional sites – as in the locations of the decisions being exercised, and; the situation – identified by the key events leading to the decision to increase QPETs in primary schools. The conclusions based on the analysis of these elements offer a clearer understanding of the various contributions to the adoption of the policy and serve to provide an insightful lens to policymakers who might seek to redesign the future shape of Physical Education.

Alvin Toffler’s writings encapsulated many of the tensions of futurism: the way that futurology and futures studies oscillated between forms of utopianism and technocracy with global ambitions, and between new forms of activism, on the one hand, and emerging forms of consultancy and paid advice on the other. Paradoxically, in their desire to create new images of the future capable of providing exits from the status quo of the Cold War world, futurists reinvented the technologies of prediction that they had initially rejected, and put them at the basis of a new activity of futures advice. Consultancy was central to the field of futures studies from its inception. For futurists, consultancy was a form of militancy—a potentially world altering expertise that could bypass politics and also escaped the boring halls of academia.

Belarusian citizens elected their first president in 1994. More than 20 years later, in October 2015, the same person triumphantly won the fifth consecutive presidential election. In August 2020, President Lukashenko’s attempt to get re-elected for the sixth time ended in months’ long mass protests against the electoral fraud, unspeakable violence used by the riot police against peaceful protesters and the deepest political crisis in the modern history of Belarus. This article analyzes how and why the first democratically elected Belarusian president attained this long-serving status. It suggests that his political longevity was conditioned by a specific social contract with the society that was sustained for many years. In light of the recent events, it is obvious that the contract is breached with the regime no longer living up to the bargain with the Belarusian people. As a result, the citizens seem unwilling to maintain their obligation for loyalty. We analyze the escalating daily price for maintaining the status quo and conclude considering the possible implications of this broken pact for the future of Belarus.

He did so, as follows: On reading Doctor Schulman's letter of October 13, 1970, I note that his concerns are the same as those felt by the Executive Board when it directed the Council on Pediatric Practice to make a 2-year study of the status of the delivery of health care to children and prepare a report with the best possible recommendations for the future.

Abstract This paper describes the status of the API project to develop and maintain Risk-Based Inspection (RBI) methodology for application within the petroleum and chemical industry. The original project has now moved from a “development” phase into an “implement and improve” phase. This paper describes the essential features of API RBI, the most recent enhancements, software features, the future direction for the project, and some user experiences. This paper also describes the acceptance of RBI by various API codes and standards, by jurisdictional authorities, and it also describes the development of an API recommended practice on RBI (API RP 580) as well as the development of an ASME standard on RBI.
