Structure of a Technical Paper

This chapter provides basic information about the structure of a technical paper. Some of the comments made here can be applied to non-technical papers as well. The chapter begins with a section that discusses the opening of a paper, then discusses the items that appear in the first part of a paper: in particular, the title, authors and affiliations, the abstract, and keywords are discussed. Next, the chapter discusses the role the introduction plays in a paper and the information one typically finds in the introductory section of a paper. The author includes a general section with guidelines about the content of a paper, followed by one about the closing portions of a paper. There, he talks about conclusions, acknowledgments, references, and biographies, and then he describes issues relating to paper submission and how to follow-up with a submission. He includes some other key issues that occur during the submission and acceptance phase of a paper’s life cycle. The author includes a few other valuable points in the miscellaneous section, where he discusses submitting to online publications, effective collaboration among coauthors, and reusing one’s own work. There is also a brief section with conclusions.

The authors address how performance indicators are configured and engineered in ERP-systems to follow up the activities of the knowledge workers in an oil and gas company. ERP-systems enable the development of new performance indicator systems, and give management simple dashboard tools to follow up and compare the performance of the organizational members across time and space. Decisions in organizations are increasingly taken on the basis of these abstract indicators that work as signs and inscriptions. This makes the development of such accounting indicators an interesting area of research because the representation of such indicators will to a large extent govern the decision making and practices of the organization. Who inscribes and controls the indicators controls the business. The authors discuss the development of such indicators as an inscription and translation process and how the indicators develop as a consequence of negotiations between influential actors. Finally, they address the consequences of these indicators and argue that they are dependent upon three key issues: the validity of the indicators, their reliability, and how indicators are negotiated. The authors’ research question is how do disparate organizational groups interplay with physical and technical elements to create indicators determining the work of high-tech business practitioners?

Nowadays, rapidly growing mobile machines such as tablet PC and smart phone equipped with touch screen panel using a sturdy material for products surface protection. Therefore, surge of chemical strengthening glass was increased. Through large areas of chemical strengthening glass, the surface scratch will cause a major failure. Most of these failures will be discarded because it is difficult to reuse. Thus, discarded chemical strengthening glass is expected to increase as with the demand. Accordingly, the importance of environmental pollution, waste landfill has been proposed. Recently, touch screen of chemical strengthened glass all-in-one type was commercialized. Therefore reuse is possible, due to surface of discarded chemical strengthening glass is washed and wipe off the electrode. In this study, we carried out the MLCA(Material Life Cycle Assessment; MLCA) on a chemical strengthening glass by landfill scenario, reuse scenario and identified the key issues.

This paper focuses on a specific set of issues -- qualification criteria, monitoring structure, access levels and terms, links to other Fund facilities, and links to the private sector. This paper is a complement and follow-up to an earlier paper, which itself considered the broader issues involved in creating a new instrument. The paper does not put forward a concrete proposal to Directors, but seeks to achieve a further convergence of views on these key issues.

This paper outlines a Decision-Maker's Tool (DM Tool), designed to guide practitioners and their inter-disciplinary teams through a typical strategic environmental assessment (SEA) process. While SEA properly includes post-decision follow-up, the DM Tool covers the SEA process up to the creation of a Briefing Note for the decision maker. Together, use of the DM Tool and the Briefing Note should facilitate positive contributions to sustainability through well considered and aligned policies, plans and programmes (PPPs), by enhancing the comprehensiveness, consistency, clarity, accessibility and credibility of decision making information. The discussion presumes that the SEA is central to the PPP development process, rather than being a separate exercise. The DM Tool and Briefing Note are designed to recommend PPP action based on clearly stated needs and purposes, addressing the key issues, and application of explicit sustainability criteria in the comparative evaluation of feasible alternatives. Particular attention is paid to recognising trade-offs and residual risks, and presenting all this information concisely for the decision maker.

The key issues in this study include: Has there been any violation in the implementation of religious education in Catholic schools? Are the sanctions by the Ministry of Religious Affairs in accordnce with appropriate mechanisms and procedures? What is the local government response in following recommended sanctions by the Ministry of Religious? What individual, social and political consequences/implications from such violation in the implementation of religious education at schools? While the purpose of the study is, firstly, to obtain accurate data and information on issues related to religious education in Catholic schools in Blitar; secondly, to verify the proposed closure of Catholic schools by Blitar Municipal Ministry of Religious Affairs; thirdly, to explore various possible religious, social, political, and security consequences in the community. This study uses qualitative method, from which the results can be described as follows: (1). Based on the applicable laws and regulations, obviously there has been a violation in the implementation of religious education at Catholic schools. (2) Sanctions from the Ministry of Religious Affairs have been found to conform the mechanisms and procedures, from the socialization, training, coordination, to sanctioning stages. (3). No follow up actions have been made by the local government with respect to recommended sanctions by the Ministry of Religious Affairs upon varied considerations (of social, political, and security). (4). Drown-out resolution to the continuing violations of religious education in schools would potentially disturb religious harmony and tend to harm the community to a greater extent.

Background Fireflies (Coleoptera: Lampyridae) are commonly recognized by adult traits, such as a soft exoskeleton, lanterns and associated glow and flash patterns, but their larval stage is far less appreciated. However, fireflies spend most of their lives as larvae, and adults of most species rely solely on resources previously obtained. Therefore, studying the immature stages is imperative towards a comprehensive understanding of fireflies. This paper reviews and indicates key gaps in the biology of firefly larvae based on available literature. Methodology We reviewed the literature on firefly larvae to identify key issues and important taxonomic, geographic, and subject biases and gaps. Results We found 376 papers that included information on firefly larvae. Only 139 species in 47 genera across eight of eleven lampyrid subfamilies have been studied during larval stages. These numbers reveal a staggering gap, since 94% of species and over half of the genera of fireflies were never studied in a crucial stage of their life cycle. Most studies on firefly larvae focus on two subfamilies (Luciolinae and Lampyrinae) in four zoogeographic regions (Sino-Japanese, Oriental, Nearctic, and Palearctic), whereas the other subfamilies and regions remain largely unstudied. These studies mainly dealt with morphology and behavior, other subjects remaining greatly understudied by comparison, including habitats, life cycle, physiology and interactions. Conclusions Together, these literature biases and gaps highlight how little is known about firefly larvae, and warmly invite basic and applied research, in the field and in the lab, to overcome these limitations and improve our understanding of firefly biology to better preserve them.
