A Network Analysis Method for Tailoring Academic Programs

Producing or updating an academic program implies a significant effort: involving people, academic units, knowledge elements, regulations, institutions, industry, etc. Such effort entails a complexity related to the volume of elements involved, the diversity of the origins of contributions, the diversity of formats, the representation of information, and the required granularity. Moreover, such effort is a common task performed by humans who collaborate for long periods of time participating in frequent meetings in order to achieve agreement. New educational approaches are heading to adaptive, flexible, ubiquitous, asynchronous, collaborative, hyper-mediated, and personalized strategies based on modern Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). We propose an approach for tailoring academic programs to provide a practical and automated method to discover and organize milestones of knowledge through the use of Complex Networks Analysis (CNA) techniques. Based on indicators from CNA, the act of tailoring an academic program acquires meaning, structure and even body elements.

Internationalization of education is a perspective. It shapes the objectives and modalities of an educational program aiming at internationalization. Some existing modalities are accreditation of academic programs by international accreditation agencies, exchange programs, international conferences, etc. Library and Information Science (LIS) as academic discipline in many countries, particularly in India, may not achieve the goal of internationalization through any of these routes exclusively and quickly for various reasons discussed in this chapter. A new form of collaboration among LIS classes of two institutions from different countries/cultures is proposed here. This type of collaboration can provide an alternate route to the internationalization of LIS education in India. This chapter discusses several issues – internationalization of LIS education in general and efforts in India in this regard, how Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) are becoming relevant in spreading education. Finally, the chapter proposes an ICT-based model that can help internationalization of Indian LIS education.

Evidently, the implementation of a DL system does not ensure a high-quality education. The purpose of this study is to explore the dynamics and challenges of distance education at Private Higher Institutions in South Ethiopia. In a given study, a representative sample of tutors and academic program leaders selected through simple random and stratified sampling techniques. Questionnaires and interview were instrumental for data collection. The finding revealed that, the number of learners in a class during tutorial programs is not to the standard, the tutors’ are responsible for one to two courses at a time and the remainder for more than two courses, assignments were too difficult for the ability of the students on the courses some learners do not receive modules before tutorial sessions and, consequently, some were forced to share modules, modules were not given long enough in advance of the actual tutorial sessions less commitment of stakeholders to realize the DL program. It is recommended that, Intensification distance education units at the institution and ensuring that students have a suitable educational background when they join to the specific program would make distance education efficient. In addition to this, it is good to try to make the system more flexible and use different information and communication technologies to support distance education.

Quality of education from the point of view of different stakeholders is considered taking into account the ongoing digital transformation revolution with the unprecedented speed and scale of changes. A quality of a student’s life added by an academic program is believed to be the most comprehensive characteristic of the quality of the program. A short list of key requirements for higher education academic programs to keep their high quality under digital transformation is proposed. It is noted that academic programs need to maintain a relatively slow-changing crossdisciplinary fundamental theoretical core in the relevant field of knowledge, and develop project and research competencies. In order to adapt to technological changes in the professional sphere, a need for continuous design of courses to meet anticipatory professional competence packages is pointed out. These courses may form a rapidly changing part of the program for individual educational trajectories. The necessity to develop universal competencies in the field of information and communication technologies, as well as skills for using methods of pattern recognition theory, which is fundamental for deep machine learning, is noted. Possibilities of using both Mass Open Online Courses (MOOC) and Online Program Management (OPM) services in academic programs are considered.

SARS-CoV-2 has brought enormous challenges and challenges to the global education system. The crisis has demonstrated the vulnerability of current educational models, their rapid and accelerated spread throughout the world has caused an unprecedented impact on the multidimensional development of the population. This brought as a possible solution the implementation and accelerated adaptation of working at a distance with approaches oriented to the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), The project proposed as an objective to evaluate the knowledge and skills management of upper secondary teachers (northern part of the state of Nayarit), before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. The study is a non-experimental descriptive transectional study with a sample of teachers from the three Preparatory Academic Units of the UAN. A non-probability convenience sampling was used using two pre-designed questionnaires through the Google Forms platform, one at the beginning and the other at the end. With this project it was detected that no teacher uses digital tools at the beginning for online classes.

Abstract   The objective of this research is to find out the use of Whatsapp Messenger as a mobile media to learn writing in EFL classes.Several researchers have attempted to prove applicability of mobile learning as modern ways of teaching and learning (Naismith, 2004:115). Moreover, applying portable technologies have been demanded by most of the modern learners who oftentimes are forced to study anywhere, and anytime, for example, at work, in the bus or at weekends (Evans, 2008:115).The research was motivated by the students’ difficulties in writing. The sample of this research was three classes of first grade students of English Department of Unswagati. The instrument of this research was questionnaire sheet. Data from questionnaire sheet was analyzed based on the frequency students’ answers and then was calculated and interpreted into percentages. The result shows WhatsApp Messenger attracts the students interest and also the students have positive responses towards the using ofWhatsAppMessenger. In applying WhatsApp group, the writer concluded that, learning using WhatsApp group has effective to develop their creativity in writing skill. On the other hand, the result from the questionnaire sheet indicated that almost of students is active in learning to writing recount text. Students can learn out of the classroom. Beside WhatsApp can be used privately, it can be used for students’ education. The students can use their gadget positively for their ability in learning English. The students can improve their knowledge in learning ICTs (Information and Communication Technologies). When modern technology permeates every corner of life, there are ignited more and more hopes among the disabled to be compensated for the loss of mobility and participation in normal life, and with Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), Exoskeleton Technologies and truly hands free technologies (HMI), it's possible for the disabled to be included in the social and pedagogic spheres, especially via computers and smartphones with social media apps and digital instruments for Augmented Reality (AR) .In this paper a nouvel HMI technology is presented with relevance for the inclusion of disabled in every day life with specific focus on the future development of "smart cities" and "smart homes".

If we want to convert our rural population into knowledge driven, progressive, self sufficient, self reliant, sustainable society, the role of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT’s) cannot be ignored. Timely availability information is considered as most important factor in Indian agriculture. At present ICT is the technology of this millennium. Transferring the developed technology to all end users is time-consuming and tiresome task and is often not completed due to paucity of resources and lack of manpower. In India, agriculture and rural development has gained significantly from ICT due to its widespread extension and adoption. In this era of internet, ICT is committed to provide real, timely accurate authentic information to the farmers and rural peoples.

Borders and bodies are increasingly regulated by data-capturing mechanisms spread across the world through information and communication technologies. This article traces the features and implications of such a border-body datalogical entanglement through the figure of the drug mule. It analyzes government documents and recorded case studies to argue that this figure emerges from an assemblage of cultural narratives, legal structures, human labor, technical practices, and biological processes. The datalogical drug mule is already implicated in a struggle over what, and how, data is meaningful and actionable. Investigating this figure allows us to begin disentangling the data-driven mechanisms that constitute modern borders and bodies while at the same time accounting for analog continuities in contemporary practices of border security.
