The high cost of healthcare services, the aging population and the increase of chronic disease is becoming a global concern. Several studies have indicated the need to minimize the process of hospitalization and the high cost of patient care. A promising trend in healthcare is to move the routines of medical checks from a hospital to the patient's home. Moreover, recent advances in microelectronics have boosted the advent of a revolutionary model involving systems and communication technology. This new paradigm, the Internet of Things (IoT), has a broad applicability in several areas, including healthcare. Based on this context, this chapter aims to describe a computer platform based on IoT for the remote monitoring of patients in critical condition. Furthermore, it is planned to approach the current advances and challenges of conceiving and developing a set of technology-centric, targeting issues relevant to underdeveloped countries, particularly in regards to Brazil's health infrastructure.

Emerging technologies such as machine learning, the cloud, the internet of things (IoT), social web, mobility, robotics, and blockchain, among others, are powering a technological revolution in such a way that are transforming all human activities. These new technologies have generated creative ways of offering goods and services. Today's consumers demand in addition to quality, innovation, a real-time and ubiquitous service. In this context, what is the challenge that academy faces? What is the effect of these new technologies on the universities mission? What are people's expectations about academy in this new era? This chapter tries to get answers to these questions and explain how these emerging technologies are converting universities to lead society transformation to the digital age. Under this new paradigm, there are only two roads: innovate or perish. As might be expected universities are embracing these technologies for innovating themselves.

In order to increase the management efficiency and decrease the maintenance costs in the traditional dust monitoring system, a novel real-time remote monitoring system using the Internet of Things and cloud server is proposed in this paper. The system includes several sensor nodes, a sink node and Cloud Server. The high-precision dust probe, temperature and humidity sensors, water flow sensors and hydrogen transmitters are integrated together into a sensor node to access the metal polished environmental information. Then, the collected information is transmitted to sink-node using the 2.4G wireless network. The sink-node uploads data to the Cloud Server through the 4G network and TCP Socket. Based on the Browser/Server (B/S) model, a remote monitoring system is developed by using Tencent Cloud Server, C# language, and SQL database. As a result, the on-site metal polishing environmental information is obtained via the App and Web page.

As one of the information industry’s future development directions, the Internet of Things (IoT) has been widely used. In order to reduce the pressure on the network caused by the long distance between the processing platform and the terminal, edge computing provides a new paradigm for IoT applications. In many scenarios, the IoT devices are distributed in remote areas or extreme terrain and cannot be accessed directly through the terrestrial network, and data transmission can only be achieved via satellite. However, traditional satellites are highly customized, and on-board resources are designed for specific applications rather than universal computing. Therefore, we propose to transform the traditional satellite into a space edge computing node. It can dynamically load software in orbit, flexibly share on-board resources, and provide services coordinated with the cloud. The corresponding hardware structure and software architecture of the satellite is presented. Through the modeling analysis and simulation experiments of the application scenarios, the results show that the space edge computing system takes less time and consumes less energy than the traditional satellite constellation. The quality of service is mainly related to the number of satellites, satellite performance, and task offloading strategy.

The significance of Internet of Things (IoT) makes different objects connected and it has also been known as the tech revolution. One of the many applications of IoT is in healthcare to examine the patient’s health report, internet of things makes medical technology more efficient and less complicated by giving access to real-time analysis of the patient’s health, in which it focuses on acquiring the data regarding the patient’s health and eliminate the possible human flaws. In the internet of things, a patient’s health statistics get transmitted through various medical equipment through a gateway, where they are stored and monitored. The main challenges in the implementation of the internet of things for healthcare services are checking all patients from different places. Therefore, the internet of things in the healthcare field gives the basic solutions for effective patient monitoring at less cost and also reduces the tensions between patient outcomes and disease management. This paper gives emphases on the different techniques used to monitor the patients while working for the healthcare department.

In all the smart applications, evolution of the Internet of Things (IOT) is utilized as a complete matured technology and in the future internet generations, established itself. Blockchain is also the blooming technique like Internet of things in which the distributed ledger which enhances the security contained in the each node of the block-chain. In the block-chain network, any fault transaction is not done by the illegal users. The block-chain is combined with the Internet of Things for the improvement of real time application performance. IOT based smart water management system is designed in this paper for the agriculture which ensures the effectiveness of the agriculture water management. The remote monitoring with the IOT is used for this purpose. By linking with 2D modelling, the control and management of the agriculture water were performed. Finally, a system is implemented for the agriculture water management through the real time data collection. The obtained result shows the data that updates the water monitoring interface with the varying number of hours. The IoT technology and remote monitoring technology is utilized to the existing water management infrastructure. For water resources management and water supply, this is the very efficient technology.

Because the remote medical monitoring system is high distributed, limited to node energy and having a large quantity of process and transmission information, this paper proposes a kind of remote medical monitoring system based on the technology of internet of things and combines the mobile Agent. Ten patients (5 male and 5 female, the age of 18~69 and the average age of 41.8) were given clinical test with this system. It shows the architectural model of the system which consists of wireless sensor nodes, relay nodes, remote monitoring center, etc. To collect the patients’ physiological data, the remote monitoring center in hospital will issue the mobile Agent and run it in the wireless sensor node. After processing the mobile Agent, the center will send it to the relay node, and then send it back to the hospital remote monitoring center through the Internet of things to do comprehensive diagnosis and make decisions. The paper has completed the software and hardware designing and debugging of the each module of system. The result shows that the system is able to monitor the health status of patients who live in different communities in the long term and in time. Further more, the system can achieve optimal utilization of medical resources.
