A maturity model in the enterprise content management (ECM) sphere serves to evaluate an organization's performance against an assessment framework, and to determine roadmaps for optimizing that performance. Such tools are developed typically by academics, informed by considerable research, or by consulting firms that use their maturity model tool to promote the sale of their own products and services. Therefore, the experience of practitioners with using ECM maturity models is underrepresented in the literature. Practitioners require tools that are quick to implement whilst providing useful insights. This chapter explores two case studies in which the author conducted quick assessments using a maturity model as a guide. The case studies indicate that while quick assessments are useful, they need to be included as part of a maturity tool to ensure that the implementation method is repeatable and the results consistent.

Purpose The implementation of enterprise content management (ECM) software applications has been a subject of extensive discussion. Although a number of ECM scholars have provided guidance on ECM implementation, there is a gap in how to assess benefits accruing from the implementation. One of the approaches of assessment is the use of maturity models. This paper aims to examine the utility of other ECM maturity model (ECM3) as an assessment tool. Design/methodology/approach The study was undertaken based on two related research questions, the first explored ECM3 assessment within a South African context and the second explored the utility of other maturity models for ECM implementation and lessons learnt to improve ECM3. Findings The results show that all the South African institutions assessed using ECM3 had a low level of maturity and there are a number of maturity models comparable to ECM3, and the global survey provides the closest parallel to the survey conducted in South Africa. Originality/value The study offers a unique discussion on the possible utility of ECM3 as a maturity model for assessing ECM implementation. This was done by comparing it with maturity models developed or used by records professionals and through assessing the results of two surveys, one conducted amongst South African institutions and another conducted by the Real Story Group.

There is increasing interest in maturity models dating back to the 1980s. A maturity model is a management tool designed to help organizations implement effective processes in a given management discipline. This chapter provides comparative assessment of three enterprise content management (ECM) maturity models that have been developed and implemented in different parts of the world. While the maturity model concept has existed for several decades, ECM maturity models are a more recent phenomenon. This study explores the theoretical foundations and functionality drawing lessons that could contribute to future developments. It outlines a history of maturity models and describes three ECM models developed in different parts of the world and compares the different levels and dimensions of maturity levels within the models. The chapter demonstrates that the different maturity models have varied naming conventions, different levels of complexity, and vary in the approach to maturity assessment.

Various maturity models have been developed for understanding the diffusion and implementation of new technologies/approaches. However, we find that existing maturity models fail to understand the implementation of emerging digital twin technique comprehensively and quantitatively. This research aims to develop an innovative maturity model for measuring digital twin maturity for asset management. This model is established based on Gemini Principles to form a systematic view of digital twin development and implementation. Within this maturity model, three main dimensions consisting of nine sub-dimensions have been defined firstly, which were further articulated by 27 rubrics. Then, a questionnaire survey with 40 experts involved is designed and conducted to examine these rubrics. This model is finally illustrated and validated by two case studies in Shanghai and Cambridge. The results show that the digital twin maturity model is effective to qualitatively evaluate and compare the maturity of digital twin implementation at the project level. It can also initiate the roadmap for improving the performance of digital twin supported asset management.

BACKGROUND Digital health maturity models allow healthcare organizations to evaluate current digital state and develop roadmaps for improving patient care through digital change. Currently, there is limited capacity to assess the quality, utility, and efficacy of maturity models to select one for use. OBJECTIVE To work in partnership with researchers, governments, and health services to design and develop an assessment framework to facilitate recommendations for digital maturity models to use in practice. METHODS Underpinned by design science research, a systematic, consultative, and iterative process was used. The first step involved literature analyses and stakeholder needs analysis to develop content and design considerations. In the second step, these considerations were incorporated into a draft framework developed by researchers in a design workshop. The third step involved external stakeholder review to strengthen and finalize the framework. RESULTS The assessment framework to evaluate digital health maturity models provides healthcare stakeholders with a consistent and objective methodology to compare maturity models identified by different vendors. The sections in the framework include assessment of healthcare context, feasibility, integrity, completeness and actionability. Calculating subtotals across the sections enables identification of the strengths and weaknesses of the maturity model. After completing the assessment for several maturity models, users can compare their performance to provide recommendations for which maturity model to use. CONCLUSIONS We have developed an evidence-based framework to enable assessment and comparison of digital health maturity models. This work will inform an approach to implementing a suitable suite of digital health maturity models. This is a critical step as healthcare evolves towards a digital health system focused on improving the quality of care, reducing costs and improving the provider and consumer experience. Customer experience maturity of any organization is important for its business results. This paper describes two kinds of maturity models, one based on competency evaluation of the employees on customer’s best applied practices, and the second on maturity of using digital tools to increase the customer good experience when working with the company. These approaches are useful when discuss the performance of enterprises providing products or services in the age of customer. The included case studies show the applicability of the procedures and open a way to be extended for proficiency testing workshops (for similar business) or in ranking the enterprises from the viewpoint of customer experience maturity.

Content management is an organisational effort of managing content, particularly in digital format. Although it has been over 25 years since content management was introduced, this field of study is still considered an emerging topic with unresolved issues-in particular, the subject of benefit achievement. Therefore, grounded on an extensive review of 135 articles, the purpose of this study is to investigate the benefits that organisations can gain through the proper use of an Enterprise Content Management System (ECMS). Subsequently, this paper identifies a list of ECMS benefits and proposes an ECMS benefit framework for further exploration into this field. Our result shows that although ECMS does bring benefits to organisations, these benefits are diverse; indicating that there are certain determinants or factors influencing the achievement of such benefits. Moreover, it is also found that in the context of the benefit framework of Shang and Seddon [10], three categories were found relevant to the field of content management: operational benefit, managerial benefit, and strategic benefit.

PurposeOrganizational capabilities are crucial to achieve the objectives. A plethora of maturity models is available to guide organizational capabilities that create a perplexing situation about what stuff to improve and what to leave. Therefore, a unified maturity model addressing a wide range of capabilities is a necessity. This paper establishes that a flexibility maturity model is an unified model containing the operational, strategic and human capabilities.Design/methodology/approachThis paper does a comparative analysis/benchmarking studies of different maturity models/frameworks widely used in the information technology (IT) sector with respect to the flexibility maturity model to establish its comprehensiveness and application in the organization to handle multiple goals.FindingsThis study confirms that the flexibility maturity model has the crucial elements of all the maturity models. If the organizations use the flexibility maturity model, they can avoid the burden of complying with multiple ones and become objective-driven rather than compliance-driven.Research limitations/implicationsThe maturity models used in information technology sectors are used. This work will inspire other maturity models to adopt flexibility phenomena.Practical implicationsThe comparative analysis will give confidence in application of flexibility framework. The business environment and strategic options across organizations are inherently different that the flexibility maturity model well handles.Social implicationsA choice is put to an organization to see the comparison tables produced in this paper and choose the right framework according to the prevailing business situation.Originality/valueThis is the first study that makes a conclusion based on comparative benchmarking of existing maturity models.
