The rapid growth of sensor-enabled smartphone is driven phenomena of common interest to be observed while leveraging people mobility and their sensory data collection. This paradigm known as mobile crowdsensing has demonstrated its efficiency in data collection over the last years, enabling the monitoring of traffic, pollution, people density and more. However, it stills pose interesting challenges, with particular regard to the management of collected data, dealing with their presentation and standardization in an interoperable infrastructure. Current visions of future crowdsensing systems share common goal of integrating those data into powerful real time web services accessible and discoverable via the web. In this paper the authors dig into this axis and define several criteria that allow succeeding it. They pay particular attention to semantic description and discovery techniques and evaluate proposed approaches by defining their strengths and shortcomings. The authors also propose guidelines for future researches.

Purpose Web services play vital role in the development of emerging technologies such as Cloud computing and Internet of Things. Although, there is a close relationship among the discovery, selection and composition tasks of Web services, research community has treated these challenges at individual level rather to focus on them collectively for developing efficient solution, which is the purpose of this work. This paper aims to propose an approach to integrate the service discovery, selection and composition of Semantic Web services on runtime basis. Design/methodology/approach The proposed approach defined as a quality of service (QoS)-aware approach is based on QoS model to perform discovery, selection and composition tasks at runtime to enhance the user satisfaction and quality guarantee by incorporating non-functional parameters such as response time and throughput with the Web services and user request. In this paper, the proposed approach is based on ontology for semantic description of Web services, which provides interoperability and automation in the Web services tasks. Findings This work proposed an integrated framework of Web service discovery, selection and composition which supports end user to search, select and compose the Web services at runtime using semantic description and non-functional requirements. The proposed approach is evaluated by various data sets from the Web Service Challenge 2009 (WSC-2009) to show the efficiency of this work. A use case scenario of Healthcare Information System is implemented using proposed work to demonstrate the usability and requirement the proposed approach. Originality/value The main contribution of this paper is to develop an integrated approach of Semantic Web services discovery, selection and composition by using the non-functional requirements.

The expeditious increase in the adoption of social media over the last decade, determining and analyzing the attitude and opinion of masses related to a particular entity, has gained quite an importance. With the landing of the Web 2.0, many internet products like blogs, community chatrooms, forums, microblog are serving as a platform for people to express themselves. Such opinion is found in the form of messages, user-comments, news articles, personal blogs, tweets, surveys, status updates, etc. With sentiment analysis, it is possible to eliminate the need to manually going through each and every user comment by focusing on the contextual polarity of the text. Analyzing the sentiments could serve a number of applications like advertisements, recommendations, quality analysis, monetization provided on the web services, real-time analysis of data, analyzing notions related to candidates during election campaign, etc.

The rapid growth of the mobile devices market and the increasing requirements of mobile users augment the need to develop Web Service clients that could be deployed and run on both mobile and desktop devices. Different developers attempt to address this heterogeneity requirement and provide solutions that simplify and automate the development of device-aware services. This chapter proposes a Model-Driven Web Service oriented approach, which allows designing and automatically generating mobile and desktop-based clients that are able to invoke ubiquitously Web Services from different devices. This is further enabled via the Web Services Description Language that allows generating the required proxy classes, which support the communication with platform-specific clients. The applicability and efficiency of the approach is demonstrated via the design and development of a device-aware Web Service prototype.

Service Oriented Infrastructures (SOIs) have recently seen increased use, mainly thanks to technologies for data centre virtualization and the emergence and increasing commercial offering of Cloud solutions. Web Services have been seen as a tool to implement SOI solutions thanks to their versatility and interoperability, but at the same time, Web Services have been considered not suitable for providing interactive real-time solutions. In this chapter the state of the art of the Web service technology will be analysed, and their different communication mechanisms and the existing implementations will be compared. Firstly, the different standardisation bodies working on Web service specifications relevant to SOI will be introduced. The various approaches to implement Web services will be described followed by the Web service specifications and the middleware that make use of those specifications, including the description of the commercial interfaces and development tools to create services for the cloud. In the last part of the chapter, the interoperability problems present on the different frameworks and the existing solutions to minimize those interoperability problems will be explained.

A monitoring network system was designed and developed to be deployed in two Romanian cities during the ROkidAIR project for measuring in real time the PM2.5 concentrations. The system comprises 8 stations that were built following the successful design and testing of a PM2.5 optical instrument prototype. The Systems Web services, the data acquisition from the monitoring stations, and the data sending to a GIS-integrated geoportal that includes a decision support system, were firstly evaluated for testing their effectiveness and for eventually defining necessary corrections. After describing the stations structure and the Web services main functions, the paper presents data about the most important measured operating parameters of the stations, results from data processing, and conclusions for further developments. Preliminary information collected from a reference gravimetric sampler installed for data inter-comparison with the developed stations is also presented.

The rapid growth of web services need efficiently discovering the desired web services for the users. Web service interfaces are defined with WSDL that is described by a bag of terms. Many similarity metrics are proposed to solve this problem, it is hardly to resolve the problem that only few pairs of terms between two services have high semantic distance, the semantic distance of other terms between two services are low. Using traditional keyword search metrics may acquire a wrong result that these two web services are similar, in addition, semantics of the web services is hardly to exploit. In this work the authors firstly help the request service to find the services that belong to the same class, and then they use association rule to find terms that are often appear together and find the most similar terms. The authors weaken the weight of the most similar term contained in an association rule and enhance the other terms' weight contained in an association rule to solve the situation above. The experiments show that our approach outperforms some searching methods.
