Performance testing (PT) is not to be construed as features testing even though it has a definite link with the latter. In fact, PT begins from where the feature testing ends. It presupposes successful completion of features testing, meaning that all the desired functional requirements expected from the system are fully met. However, it is worth noting that conducting PT without features testing is often fraught with great difficulties. This is because the residual defects in the system, which otherwise would have been known in features testing, would give misleading results about the performance. Previous chapters emphasized the need for PT and various factors that have impact the performance of Web-based applications. This chapter provides an insight about the technology aspects, including the software languages, necessary for Web development. Needless to add, that technology as well as software languages have a critical impact on the performance of the system.

Joint research projects in ecology typically aim to integrate scientific knowledge from various disciplines. This raises the request for collaboration technologies. As ecological research is data-intensive, it requires the management and exchange of large datasets, often with spatial reference. The demand for collaboration, data, and information management tools in science is addressed by the creation of digital service infrastructures, so-called eResearch Infrastructures, which are collections of typically web-based software systems. Here, an example eResearch infrastructure implemented for a joint research project is presented. It is described by the user stories, the derived functional requirements, and their implementation in software systems. This infrastructure followed an open-source paradigm with only two exceptions. Based on the lessons learned, recommendations for the future development of eResearch infrastructures and their embedment in an organizational, project, and scientific framework are derived.

This chapter encapsulates the main findings of an in-depth study of Web development practices in Ireland. The essential research objective was to build a richer understanding of the modern context of Web development and of how that context influences design practices. At the outset, a conceptual framework was derived through a synthesis of issues in the literature and an analysis of existing models of IS development. Data was then gathered through a dual-mode (Web and postal) quantitative survey which yielded 165 usable responses, and later through a series of 14 semi-structured qualitative interviews in a follow-up field study. Following an interpretive approach, elementary statistics and grounded theory were used to iteratively analyze the data until a reasonably comprehensive and stable explanation emerged. This is presented in the form of an elaborated conceptual framework of Web-based systems development as “situated action.”

This chapter introduces intelligent information personalization as an approach to personalize the webbased information retrieval experiences based on an individual’s interests, needs and goals. We present intelligent techniques to dynamically compose new personalized information by adapting existing web-based information in line with a dynamic user-model, whilst simultaneously addressing linguistic, factual and functional requirements. This chapter will highlight the different facets, tasks and issues concerning intelligent information personalization to guide researchers in designing intelligent information personalization applications. The chapter presents intelligent methods that address information personalization at the content level as opposed to the traditional approaches that focus on interface level information personalization. To assist researchers in designing intelligent information personalization applications we present our information personalization framework, named AdWISE (Adaptive Webmediated Information and Services Environment), to demonstrate how to systematically integrate various intelligent methods to achieve information personalization. We will conclude with a commentary on the future outlook for intelligent information personalization.

Web authoring is the process of developing Web pages. The Web development process requires you to use software to create functional pages that will work on the Internet. Adding Web functionality is creating specific components within a Web page that do something. Adding links, rollover graphics, and interactive multimedia items to a Web page creates are examples of enhanced functionality. This chapter demonstrates Web based authoring techniques using Macromedia Dreamweaver. The focus is on adding Web functions to pages generated from Macromedia Fireworks and to overview creating Web pages from scratch using Dreamweaver. Dreamweaver and Fireworks are professional Web applications. Using professional Web software will benefit you tremendously. There are other ways to create Web pages using applications not specifically made to create Web pages. These applications include Microsoft Word and Microsoft PowerPoint. The use of Microsoft applications for Web page development is not covered in this chapter. However, I do provide steps on how to use these applications for Web page authoring within the appendix of this text. If you feel that you are more comfortable using the Microsoft applications or the Macromedia applications simply aren’t available to you yet, follow the same process for Web page conceptualization and content creation and use the programs available to you. You should try to get Web page development skills using Macromedia Dreamweaver because it helps you expand your software skills outside of basic office applications. The ability to create a Web page using professional Web development software is important to building a high-end computer skills set. The main objectives of this chapter are to get you involved in some technical processes that you’ll need to create the Web portfolio. Focus will be on guiding you through opening your sliced pages, adding links, using tables, creating pop up windows for content and using layers and timelines for dynamic HTML. The coverage will not try to provide a complete tutorial set for Macromedia Dreamweaver, but will highlight essential techniques. Along the way you will get pieces of hand coded action scripts and JavaScripts. You can decide which pieces you want to use in your own Web portfolio pages. The techniques provided are a concentrated workflow for creating Web pages. Let us begin to explore Web page authoring.

The study aims to develop a web-based application for Residential and Non-Residential Centers and Institutions of DSWD Region III to manage their records and automate the reporting of incidents. Moreover, it also enables citizens to report incidents concerning drug dependents, abandoned or neglected and abused individuals to appropriate centers or institutions. The application has three user access level for efficient and secure managing and sending different types of reports. In the initial data collected, the results show that centers and institutions have many different reports that are being generated. Organizing these reports and searching through them is always a challenge. Concerned citizens reports the incidents they have encountered but experience problems in doing it such as to whom it should be reported and the way it should be reported. Evaluation was done by end users in terms of its functional requirements and by the IT experts in terms of the technical aspect in particularly about performance and security. Based from the evaluation, the webbased application has provided the functionalities needed in managing the records of different centers and institutions and regional office. This could help them in handling these records efficiently. Moreover, incidents reported by concerned citizens has been sent to appropriate centers and institutions thereby helping to ease the incident reporting process. As for the recommendation, web-based application would be more usable as mobile web application. Reports generated should be more dynamic. Add more features to maintain the security and confidentiality of the information of reported incidents

Software architectures can be used as a vehicle to improve the study of quality properties in the early stages of development. This paper proposes an automatic mapping between the design of architectural components and the specification of DEVS atomic models with aims to evaluate all-purpose quality metrics. Then, we use the functional description of architectural components (that address functional requirements) to estimate the architecture adjustment to non-functional requirements. The guidelines for structuring the simulation models are defined starting from the design of high-level components. To illustrate the proposal, web-based architecture is used as proof of concepts.

The AHP (Analytical Hierarchy Process) method is suitable for the decision making process because it can determine scores for each different criteria, then proceed with the best alternative selection process. In the SPK (decision support system) is used web-based that can be accessed anytime, anywhere. So that at school, high school students (high school) can access the system through the school's computer. Requirements analysis is divided into 2 types, namely functional requirements (Functional Requirements) are types of requirements that contain the processes that will be carried out by the system and non-functional requirements (Non Functional Requirements) are types of requirements that contain behavioral properties owned by the system. Criteria for test results is a requirement for decision makers in determining the selection of study programs in Higher Education, based on the DAT test, the results of which are divided into 3 criteria, namely verbal ability, numerical ability, and spatial ability. Of the 100% accuracy of the results on the system using the AHP method in this system only results in 75% of the accuracy of the results.
