The STECC Framework - An Architecture for Self-Testable Components

Development of a software system from existing components can surely have various benefits, but can also entail a series of problems. One type of problem is caused by a limited exchange of information between the developer and user of a component. A limited exchange and thereby a lack of information can have various consequences, among them the requirement to test a component prior to its integration into a software system. A lack of information cannot only make testing prior to integration necessary; it can also complicate this task. However, difficulties in testing can be avoided if certain provisions to increase testability are taken beforehand. This article briefly describes a new form of improving testability of, particularly commercial, components, the self-testing COTS components (STECC) strategy and explains in detail the STECC framework, which implements the necessary technical architecture to augment Java components with self-testability.

Evaluation, in the current context of education policy, is an instrument of regulation of action. In Portugal, public schools evaluation focuses on the dimensions of self-evaluation and external evaluation, the articulation of both being normatively imposed and also encouraged in various evaluation, benchmarking, and monitoring initiatives. Based on document analysis of background documents and reports of evaluation of schools initiatives, this article presents the various concepts of school self-evaluation in those documents and reflects on the "self" dimension of this self-evaluation in Portuguese public schools as an exercise of autonomy and accountability. Since 2002, the guidelines for self-evaluating schools are known. Although the administrations continue to say that it is not intended to induce the process, models and tools for evaluating schools, particularly the External Evaluation of Schools (EES), have been carrying a soft orientation / regulation, since they call for the school to produce a discourse built around the analysis of dimensions that they impose. This "new form of governance", assuming itself as a form of regulation of this action, can become a form of self-evaluation as a discourse, more or less standardized, which is a part of (self)-evaluationt of the system, rather than a process of construction of negotiated and shared references in school. We aim to characterize this self-evaluation, from the EES's conceptual framework analysis, and study the dimensions in which it is applied, as well as to clarify its place in the evolution of the EES model.

In this project was shown software system for drug search in online mode, which was included: three services, user interface. Also, was analyzed test of this system, speed for system and efficiency of system. A software system – this is a group of integrated software tools which support certain process and share a database. This system shows how three services work: the primary service, the additional service and provider’s service. Also given are the modes of their work, their capabilities and specifically what they include and represent. The description of all technologies are given which used during development of this system, including their advantages and disadvantages in general. On the basic of this technique, the client-server system of drug search is realized. Moreover there are various options for searching for medical items, a searching by using search and by using location of the pharmacy on Google map were suggested. A description of the development environment and main of its functions were provided. In addition, what is REST API, where it was used and why exactly REST was used during development of this system. It also shows how to run the program, namely the procedure, with description, explains exactly how to run the program, and what additional plugins need to be installed. This article describes the algorithm of software system for drug search in online mode, the main functions of the system are given and described. Screenshots of the main modules of the server side and of the program are added as well as screenshots of databases.

This study implemented a mobile diagnosing system that provides user-centered interfaces for more precisely estimating and diagnosing engine conditions through communications with the self-developed ECU only for industrial CRDI engine use. For the implemented system, a new protocol was designed and applied based on OBD-II standard to receive engine data values of the developed ECU. The designed protocol consists of a message structure to request data transmission from a smartphone to ECU and a response message structure for ECU to send data to a smartphone. It transmits 31 pieces of engine condition information simultaneously and sends the trouble diagnostic code. Because the diagnostic system enables real-time communication through modules, the engine condition information can be checked at any time. Thus, because when troubles take place on the engine, users can check them right away, quick response and resolution are possible, and stable system management can be expected.

Drawing inspiration from social interactions in nature, swarm intelligence has presented a promising approach to the design of complex systems consisting of numerous, simple parts, to solve a wide variety of problems. Swarm intelligence systems involve highly parallel computations across space, based heavily on the emergence of global behavior through local interactions of components. This has a disadvantage as the desired behavior of a system becomes hard to predict or design. Here we describe how to provide greater control over swarm intelligence systems, and potentially more useful goal-oriented behavior, by introducing hierarchical controllers in the components. This allows each particle-like controller to extend its reactive behavior in a more goal-oriented style, while keeping the locality of the interactions. We present three systems designed using this approach: a competitive foraging system, a system for the collective transport and distribution of goods, and a self-assembly system capable of creating complex 3D structures. Our results show that it is possible to guide the self-organization process at different levels of the designated task, suggesting that self-organizing behavior may be extensible to support problem solving in various contexts.

The article is devoted to the comprehension of the connection between the idea and practice of multiculturalism and images of time that define the identity of classical cultural models. To answer the question about the perspectives and the limits of multiculturalism as new form of pluralism, it is necessary to examine the origins of the idea of plurality in Western culture. This idea occurs to be deeply connected with the specific movement of subjectivation and the mode of time‐experience that defines the ontological basis of the Self. The specific feature of European mode of apprehension of the time is its visual character. The vivid call of the epoch of multiculturalism is the need for transformation of indefinite plurality into real diversity. It demands new ontology based on refusal from visual approach to time and on transition “eidetic” one into “existential”.

In 1857 the first Obscene Publications Act was passed in Britain. In the months leading up to the passing of this legislation, a debate emerged which focused on the spaces of the modern metropolis, the production of modern forms of visual culture, and the possibility of transgressive forms of cultural consumption. One street in London became the symbol for this definition of obscenity—Holywell Street in Westminster, which ran parallel to the Strand from St Clement Danes to St Mary-le-Strand. The narrow contours and crumbling buildings of this Elizabethan alley signified physical, moral, and cultural impurity, in contrast to the modernising ambitions of the city in this period. The display of obscene images in the shop windows enabled a new form of cultural consumption based on looking while moving through the street. As such, it represented a dangerous promiscuity which could address women and men of all classes as they moved through the spaces of the metropolis.

Alignment is a very wide subject that can be used to support an organization’s information system. Many authors have dealt with this topic according to various dimensions, including the operational alignment dimension. Our work aims to review approaches that discuss the operational alignment by reducing the gap between business requirement, business process, and software system. Therefore, this study was conducted by a systematic literature review (SLR). In the first step, we gather 1846 papers relative to the subject. In the last step, we filter those articles and select only the most pertinent ones, which leave us with 63 studies to focus on. These primary studies were analyzed according to 9 quality assessment criteria.
