This chapter adopts a four aspect model to address cheating and plagiarism in universities – education, prevention, detection and consequence. The research focussed on the two aspects of education and prevention as the authors feel that this area has not been considered in detail by the research. Building on past research, a series of eight focus groups (72 students) were conducted with students from information technology degrees at an Australian university. The students were asked to comment and discuss the phenomenon of cheating from their perspective. The chapter presents in detail the responses of the students as analysed by the researchers and then builds a set of guidelines for educators to use in the areas of education and prevention in relation to student cheating.

In the course of its interaction with the world, the human nervous system must constantly estimate various variables in the surrounding environment. Past research indicates that environmental variables may be represented as probabilistic distributions of a priori information (priors). Priors for environmental variables that do not change much over time have been widely studied. Little is known, however, about how priors develop in environments with nonstationary statistics. We examine whether humans change their reliance on the prior based on recent changes in environmental variance. Through experimentation, we obtain an online estimate of the human sensorimotor prior (prediction) and then compare it to similar online predictions made by various nonadaptive and adaptive models. Simulations show that models that rapidly adapt to nonstationary components in the environments predict the stimuli better than models that do not take the changing statistics of the environment into consideration. We found that adaptive models best predict participants' responses in most cases. However, we find no support for the idea that this is a consequence of increased reliance on recent experience just after the occurrence of a systematic change in the environment.

The present study examined how the structure of procedural texts affected recall of those texts. Past research has found that procedural text is comprehended best when readers expend a moderate amount of effort in processing it; the amount of effort may depend on the structure of the procedural text. Sixty-three participants read six procedural texts describing how to construct simple machines. One group of participants read texts that contained a diagram of the object, whereas the other group read texts with no diagram. Two types of texts were presented: Narrative and list-like procedural texts. Results showed that rereading increased recall of the list-like text, but had little effect for the narrative text. The elaboration hypothesis explains the recall differences after a single reading, but it is still unclear why the list-like texts were recalled better than the narrative texts after a second reading.

This research paper describes key information technology (IT) project management activities in terms of project scope, time, and cost management, namely the triple constraint. The authors contend that the ability to properly manage and execute these activities is the quintessential component that oftentimes drives whether projects succeed or fail. The literature shows that IT projects have a dismal success rate but successful projects have been on the rise. The authors attempt to determine if the increase of successful projects correlates to the increase in the number of certified project managers. Empirical evidence is presented that indicates certified project managers do not perform project scope, time, and cost management activities better than project managers without professional certification credentials.

The Garifuna people of Trujillo, Honduras, wryly call it la maldición—the curse. Despite the expansive resources of the area and the sheer amount of valuable commodities that have left from its shores, most of the local people remain poor, with little access to sanitation, reliable electricity, literacy, security, or employment. This study explores the ways in which private tourism development projects conspire with national and international politics and economics to perpetuate la maldición. An analysis of 40 qualitative interviews, three focus groups, and survey data from the Trujillo area is combined with secondary historical, economic, and political data regarding the national and international processes in which local dynamics are embedded. Although past research has shown it to be possible for development projects to be designed in a way that benefits indigenous populations, in the case of Trujillo, Honduras, macroimperial, mesoimperial and microimperial processes conspire to assure that such projects exploit and marginalize instead of include and benefit local people.

Purpose: Past research concerning companies' asset growth and profitability comparisons within and across SAARC (South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation) economies is extremely limited and the purpose of this research is to fill that gap. Design/methodology/approach: This research accessed data (2009 to 2013) from Thomson Reuters Data stream, drawn comparisons for years 2009-13, and used Tukey's HSD test for analyses. Findings: Findings reveal that profitability of Pakistani, Indian, and Bangladeshi companies was overall better in 2010 and 2011 pointing towards these countries' successful exit from crisis. These years marked higher asset growth as well among Indian, Bangladeshi, and Sri Lankan companies. Importantly, countries' cross comparisons reveal that profitability of Bangladeshi companies was better than others in all years, however, Sri Lankan companies also had higher profitability than Indian ones during 2011-13 and had higher asset growth compared to Pakistani companies in 2012 and 2013. Overall, Pakistani companies had lowest asset growth. Implications/Originality/Value: The study updates information concerning SAARC economies’ corporate and business world and demonstrates that asset growth and profitability trends could be inspired from international events and an economy's condition. Future studies could be industry specific; include other SAARC countries using a different criterion; and use different ratios for analysis.

AbstrakPengembangan Pembelajaran Keterampilan menyimak melalui Teknologi Informasi. Kata kunci: Pembelajaran keterampilan menyimak;       strategi menyimak; teknologi informasi; multimedia interaktif AbstractDeveloping Listening Skill‘s Learning Through Information Technology.    Listening skill for some teachers is more in listening ability rather than listening as a process and mechanic so that it needs skill in designing technology as an interesting learning media. Whereas technology can be used to help the students in developing their listening skill through radio, cassete audio, television, video, and computer or internet media with providing many websites. Each kind of technology gives chance for the students to explore their listening strategy and some cases in developing new strategy. In language class, the students have access to some forms technology whether it is small transistor radio or multimedia interactive.  It may give broader access to emphasize certain aspect model such as cross culture, interactional, critical, and contextual dimension in listening skill. Together with technology development, the role of the teacher in helping the students in developing listening skill is changed. Besides, language teacher in exploitation old technology and new technology can fullfill the students’ need in anticipation for changing and development of technology. This paper aims to identify the importance of Information Technology businesses and youth’s interest in entrepreneurial initiatives in connection with IT based businesses. The data was collected using questionnaire from final year students of entrepreneurship and computer sciences enrolled in Bachelors, so as to get a profound picture of their intention, motivation and ability to enter in IT related entrepreneurial ventures. As descriptive statistics was used to analyze the findings, the study depicts great motivation among final year graduates to enter in entrepreneurial ventures. They are found to be motivated to establish ventures of their own even at small level. Therefore, SMEs can play vital role in assisting and fostering entrepreneurial activity with special focus on Information Technology businesses. In addition, the research limitation could be the fact that data has been collected from top universities/ institutes in which intellect level of students is competitively high, thus their liking to entre and understanding regarding SMEs and entrepreneurial initiatives is better than students of ordinary institutes. Also, the results could have been deviated if same research was applied in countries with varying demographics. As for Practical Implementations the research may be vital for SMEs officials to foresee the entrepreneurial spirit among youth and to design policies accordingly. Also, it opens horizons for information Technology students to consider entrepreneurial careers other than simply applying for jobs in software houses/ organizations. Also, no prior research has been carried out in analyzing the mutual relation of Entrepreneurship and Information Technology businesses, neither the outcome/ joint effect of both has been studied together.
