On the Use of Web Services in Content Adaptation

The tremendous growth of the Internet has introduced a number of interoperability problems for distributed multimedia applications. These problems are related to the heterogeneity of client devices, network connectivity, content formats, and user’s preferences. The challenge is even bigger for multimedia content providers who are faced with the dilemma of finding the combination of different variants of a content to create, store, and send to their subscribers that maximize their satisfaction and hence entice them to come back. In this chapter, the authors will present a framework for trans-coding multimedia streams using an orchestration of Webservices. The framework takes into consideration the profile of communicating devices, network connectivity, exchanged content formats, context description, users’ preferences, and available adaptation services to find a chain of adaptation services that should be applied to the content to make it more satisfactory to clients. The framework was implemented as a core component for an architecture that supports personal and service mobility.

Compression, transport, and multimedia description are examples of individual technologies that are improving all the time. However, the lack of interoperable solutions across these spaces is holding back the deployment of advanced multimedia packaging and distribution applications. To enable transparent access to multimedia content, it is essential to have available not only the description of the content but also a description of its format and of the usage environment in order that content adaptation may be performed to provide the end-user with the best content experience for the content requested with the conditions available (Vetro, 2003). In the following sections, we will look at the background of multimedia content adaptation, why do we require it and why are present solutions not adequate. We then go onto the main focus of the article, which describes the main themes of modern multimedia content adaptation, such as present day work that defines the area and overviews and descriptions of techniques used. We then look at what this research will lead to in the future and what we can expect in years to come. Finally, we conclude this article by reviewing what has been discussed.

The religious communication is the most ancient of human communication types. The pragmatic linguistics as well as rhetoric shows a special attitude to this special type of discourse. Today the Internet text with its unlimited abilities is being in the focus of linguists’ attention. That is why the orthodox journalists are covering not only print media but also the Internet that helps to widen the sphere of influence on the people’s minds and souls. The analyses show that the media context of the Orthodox sites (such as The Orthodox people laugh and etc.) includes humorous publications that prove the necessity of studying peculiarities of religious communication and humorous texts in orthodox sites. The integrative approach including content analyses, discourse and linguistic cultural methods helps the author to come to a conclusion that orthodox media texts are distinguished by intertextuality, hypertextuality, creolism, and the authors want to influence the addressee in the most effective way. To define the communicative task, the missionary function should be taken into account which is peculiar to the religious discourse.

To calculate the potential impact of grid on the enterprise, one just needs to look back a decade or so ago. Those who remember how LANs developed in company years before the Web was born can easily get a picture of how Grid Computing in corporations may change in the years to come. In the early days of the Internet, there was a strong opposition to linking computers together in a network. Ultimately, however, the Internet has become a ubiquitous tool, and many experts predict the same outcome for Grid Computing on the enterprise. There are still concerns to consider and obstacles to be overcome, but the momentum behind corporate Grid Computing is quickly gathering pace. The integration of Grid Computing technologies into enterprise computing systems can provide a much richer range of possibilities. This integration should provide enhanced capabilities and interoperability to meet current virtual organization demands.

Smart appliance design that includes multimedia intelligence to deliver comfortable, convenient, and secure personal services in the home is becoming increasingly crucial in the age of information and communication technology. This research looks at the design and execution of a novel interactive multimedia mirror system called as "smart mirror." The glass that will be used is the foundation of the design of a smart mirror. Two-way glass is suggested because it allows the visuals on the display to be seen more clearly. Our way of life has evolved to the point where making the best use of one's time is critical. Based on user surveys and prototype implementation, we propose the development of an innovative appliance that incorporates interactive information services delivered via a user interface on the surface of a mirror. Our work is based on the assumption that we all check ourselves in the mirror before leaving the house, so why shouldn't the mirror be intelligent? Smart Mirrors will eventually replace regular mirrors, providing users with both mirror and computer-assisted information services as technology improves. Because of the Raspberry Pi microcontroller cards aboard, the devices can connect to the internet, download data from the internet, and show that data on the mirror. Weather data, time and location data, current event data, and user data gathered from web services using a Raspberry Pi 3 microcontroller card are all included in the designed intelligent mirror system. The mirror will light up when the user steps in front of it. When thinking about this project, phrases like Smart Mirror, Interactive services, Raspberry Pi , and Web services come to mind.
