Analyzing Animated Movie Contents for Automatic Video Indexing

In this chapter the authors tackle the analysis and characterization of the artistic animated movies in view of constituting an automatic content-based retrieval system. First, they deal with temporal segmentation, and propose cut, fade and dissolve detection methods adapted to the constraints of this domain. Further, they discuss a fuzzy linguistic approach for automatic symbolic/semantic content annotation in terms of color techniques and action content and we test its potential in automatic video classification. The browsing issue is dealt by providing methods for both, static and dynamic video abstraction. For a quick browse of the movie’s visual content the authors create a storyboard-like summary, while for a “sneak peak” of the movie’s exciting action content they propose a trailer-like video skim. Finally, the authors discuss the architecture of a prototype client-server 3D virtual environment for interactive video retrieval. Several experimental results are presented.

This article discusses content-based access to video information in large video databases and particularly, to retrieve animated movies. The authors examine temporal segmentation, and propose cut, fade and dissolve detection methods adapted to the constraints of this domain. Further, the authors discuss a fuzzy linguistic approach for deriving automatic symbolic/semantic content annotation in terms of color techniques and action content. The proposed content descriptions are then used with several data mining techniques (SVM, k-means) to automatically retrieve the animation genre and to classify animated movies according to some color techniques. The authors integrate all the previous techniques to constitute a prototype client-server architecture for a 3D virtual environment for interactive video retrieval.

Nuclear safeguards evaluation aims to verify that countries are not misusing nuclear programs for nuclear weapons purposes. Experts of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) carry out an evaluation process in which several hundreds of indicators are assessed according to the information obtained from different sources, such as State declarations, on-site inspections, IAEA non-safeguards databases and other open sources. These assessments are synthesized in a hierarchical way to obtain a global assessment. Much information and many sources of information related to nuclear safeguards are vague, imprecise and ill-defined. The use of the fuzzy linguistic approach has provided good results to deal with such uncertainties in this type of problems. However, a new challenge on nuclear safeguards evaluation has attracted the attention of researchers. Due to the complexity and vagueness of the sources of information obtained by IAEA experts and the huge number of indicators involved in the problem, it is common that they cannot assess all of them appearing missing values in the evaluation, which can bias the nuclear safeguards results. This paper proposes a model based on collaborative filtering (CF) techniques to impute missing values and provides a trust measure that indicates the reliability of the nuclear safeguards evaluation with the imputed values.

Infectious bronchitis viruses (IBVs) are evolving continuously via genetic drift and genetic recombination, making disease prevention and control difficult. In this study, we undertook genetic and pathogenic characterization of recombinant IBVs isolated from chickens in South Korea between 2003 and 2019. Phylogenetic analysis showed that 46 IBV isolates belonged to GI-19, which includes nephropathogenic IBVs. Ten isolates formed a new cluster, the genomic sequences of which were different from those of reference sequences. Recombination events in the S1 gene were identified, with putative parental strains identified as QX-like, KM91-like, and GI-15. Recombination detection methods identified three patterns (rGI-19-I, rGI-19-II, and rGI-19-III). To better understand the pathogenicity of recombinant IBVs, we compared the pathogenicity of GI-19 with that of the rGI-19s. The results suggest that rGI-19s may be more likely to cause trachea infections than GI-19, whereas rGI-19s were less pathogenic in the kidney. Additionally, the pathogenicity of rGI-19s varied according to the genotype of the major parent. These results indicate that genetic recombination between heterologous strains belonging to different genotypes has occurred, resulting in the emergence of new recombinant IBVs in South Korea.

The evaluation of mineral resources development efficiency is a typical multicriteria decision-making issue. Meanwhile, due to the limited existing technology, there might be subjectivity, ambiguity, and inaccuracy of the measurement of the evaluation index of mineral resources development efficiency. In this paper, we, considering the incomplete information, use the hesitant fuzzy linguistic approach to describe the psychological hesitation and ambiguity of the decision-maker in the actual evaluation process and then construct the general model of the development efficiency evaluation of the mineral resources by using the hesitant fuzzy linguistic terms sets and modified TODIM. Finally, this paper takes the Panxi area as an example to study the development efficiency of vanadium-titanium magnetite. The results show that the hesitant fuzzy linguistic multicriteria decision-making (MCDM) approach can be implemented to mineral resources evaluation and resources management.

Blackberry and raspberry are members of the family Rosaceae. They are classified in the genus Rubus, which comprises hundreds of species and has a center of origin in the Far East. Rubus is divided into 15 subgenera with blackberries classified in the Rubus (formerly Eubatus) and raspberries in the Idaeobatus subgenera. Rubus species are propagated vegetatively and are subject to infection by viruses during development, propagation, and fruit production stages. Reports of initial detection and symptoms of more than 30 viruses, virus-like diseases, and phytoplasmas affecting Rubus spp. were reviewed more than 20 years ago. Since the last review on Rubus viruses, significant progress has been made in the molecular characterization of many of the viruses that infect Rubus spp. Currently, reverse transcription–polymerase chain reaction detection methods are available for most of the viruses known to infect Rubus. The goals of this article are to update the knowledge on previously characterized viruses of Rubus, highlight recently described viruses, review the virus-induced symptoms, describe the advances made in their detection, and discuss our knowledge about several virus complexes that cause serious diseases in Rubus. Virus complexes have been identified recently as the major cause of diseases in blackberries and raspberries.

<em>Listeria monocytogenes</em> is an ubiquitous, intracellular pathogen which has been implicated within the past decade as the causative organism in several outbreaks of foodborne diseases. In this review, a new approach to molecular typing primarily designed for global epidemiology has been described: multi-<em>locus</em> sequencing typing (MLST). This approach is novel, in that it uses data that allow the unambiguous characterization of bacterial strains via the Internet. Our aim is to present the currently available selection of references on <em>L. monocytogenes</em> MLST detection methods and to discuss its use as <em>gold</em> <em>standard</em> to <em>L. monocytogenes</em> subtyping method.

A fuzzy rule-based expert system is developed for evaluating intellectual capital. A fuzzy linguistic approach assists managers to understand and evaluate the level of each intellectual capital item. The proposed fuzzy rule-based expert system applies fuzzy linguistic variables to express the level of qualitative evaluation and criteria of experts. Feasibility of the proposed model is demonstrated by the result of intellectual capital performance evaluation for a sample company.
