In today's competitive business environment, information systems are not a luxury; rather they are vital for survival. A new generation of ISs has been established on cloud capabilities. Moving toward software as a service is not the goal in a business, and if not implemented properly, competitive advantage may even suffer. Managers and change agents should undertake deep study over SaaS implementation before migration. In this chapter, the main elements and features in which CEOs and IT managers should consider in evaluating the SaaS migration option will be provided, and enterprises may be acquainted with the concept, goals, and theoretical foundations of SaaS as a main cloud-based service in the business environment. On the other hand, businesses should undertake some necessary changes in the operating circumstances which are utilization of a proper and modified business models established over a knowledge base strategic movement. This will lead enterprises to achieve the main goals of migrating to SaaS and cloud platforms (i.e., agility, competitive advantage, and innovation).

High costs of licensing, implementation issues, and missed opportunities in legacy systems led to the development of a new generation of Information System platforms called “Cloud” domain. However, Cloud, if not understood properly by managers, has many shortcomings. Moving toward Cloud is not the goal and even competitive advantage may suffer. Managers and change agents should undertake deep study over Cloud Information Systems and Software as a Service (SaaS) before deciding to move toward migration. In this chapter, the main elements and features in which CEOs and IT managers should consider in evaluating the SaaS migration option are provided, and enterprises may be acquainted with the concept, goals, and theoretical foundations of SaaS as a main Cloud-based service in the business environment.

Information systems development (ISD) is an integral part of organizational agility in today’s competitive business environment. High turnover, agile ways of working, and fluid work environments pose challenges for ISD. This paper explores the erosion of knowledge retention (KR) arising from ISD staff churn in a New Zealand-based financial organization in the aftermath of a major earthquake. In this exploratory study, the authors develop a causal model of KR in the ISD context, which articulates the challenges to and consequences of ineffective KR at the routine and exiting stages of KR. The model identifies four challenges—coordination complexity, insufficient resources for knowledge retention, insufficient attention to knowledge retention, and slow staff replacement and handover processes—that can affect the loss of ISD knowledge when routine and exiting KR fall into disarray. This study also reveals that role stress and reduced ISD agility reinforce the cycle of knowledge loss.

This paper connects research from business model innovation and information systems by exploring critical IT capabilities for servitized business models. The adoption of servitized business models is a major business model innovation strategy. At the same time, digitalization drives the evolution of IT capabilities at these business models. Scholars argue that it remains unclear how IT capabilities enable servitized business models to build a competitive advantage by achieving cost advantages or differentiation. This paper explores IT capabilities that enable building a competitive advantage for servitized business models based on a qualitative analysis of multiple published case studies. The authors identify configurations of IT capabilities among servitized business models. The findings contribute to servitization research by exploring IT capabilities and how they are combined among servitized business models. The insights help practitioners deploy digital technologies and IT assets effectively as building blocks of IT capabilities to advance their servitized business model.

Information Systems (IS) is the study of complementary networks of hardware and software that people and organizations use to collect, filter, process, create, and distribute data. The study bridges business and computer science using the theoretical foundations of information and computation to study various business models and related algorithmic processes within a computer science discipline. In today's world in which most of the economic transactions are mediated by computers, Information Systems have become an integrated part of the decision-making process of most enterprises, organizations, and institutions. However, in contrast to the fields of Economics and Management, Information Systems is an area still in its infancy. This chapter is designed in order to present the main elements of the origin, evolution, and establishment of the historical interpretations, theories, and models that govern the Information Systems view of enterprises, organizations, and institutions, with a particular focus on the structure and dynamics of enterprises.

The paper examines the specific knowledge universities transfer to industry, reflecting to creative industry needs. As results shows, the most asked alumni competences should be tacit knowledge and divergent thinking. Divergent thinking influence the creativity. Creativity is often defined as the ability to develop new and useful ideas, but in deep literature review, we can see few irregularities and different definitions of creativity. The paper also evaluates the importance of creativity from business environment point of view and from the creative industry perspective and creative firm owners. As point of view. Another key finding is, that to educate creative people will be one of the key competitive advantage, because mainly the ability to create and disseminate knowledge is often at the heart of the organization's competitive advantage not only in creative industry, but in transport industry as well.

Globalization changes the business environment, which demands change from every business organization involved, to succeed in the new environment. For that purpose, human resource management needs to be directed to the development of human capital, which assumes employees as assets, not costs, for the company. The implication is that management needs to recognize each of its employees in order to maximize their potential and manage it to be a competitive advantage. This is where performance management plays a very important role.
