The Effects of Mistreating Management Variability on Work Attitudes and Behaviors

The finding of this research indicates that individuals in a work unit are likely to develop negative attitudes and engage in deviate behaviors in response to a manager who is more mistreating toward some unit members but not toward others. These effects were found to be strong after explaining for each individual's personal experience of misuse from the manager. The findings are significant because they highlight the importance of mistreating management variability as a distinct unit-level construct. In sum, the findings highlight the importance of examining mistreating management at both the individual and unit levels of analyzes. This research shows that, in a work unit, non-targeted members are caused some of these negative outcomes because they are the unfair interpersonal treatment of others. Organizations should educate managers on how contradictory interpersonal treatment of subordinates impacts the fairness of the work unit and the negative implication on both targeted and non-targeted subordinates.

Purpose – The paper examines terrorism in its relationship to the workplace. The purpose of this paper is to review research findings and propose a model of the effects of terrorism on work-related outcomes. Design/methodology/approach – A literature review was undertaken mainly using academic sources. Findings – Potential or actual terrorist attacks create a significant fear level for the individual, causing negative work attitudes. In turn, negative attitudes lead to undesirable work behaviors. Research limitations/implications – Relatively little research has been conducted to determine how organizations may be affected by terrorism via the reciprocal relationship between employee and organizational well-being. Originality/value – This paper explores important yet still under-researched areas of management and organizational interventions to mitigate the deleterious effects of workplace terrorism.

With a conscious attempt to contribute to contemporary discussions in mad/trans/queer/monster studies, the monograph approaches complex postmodern theories and contextualizes them from an autoethnographic methodological perspective. As the self-explanatory subtitle reads, the book introduces several topics as revelatory fields for the author’s self-exploration at the moment of an intense epistemological and ontological crisis. Reflexively written, it does not solely focus on a personal experience, as it also aims at bridging the gap between the individual and the collective in times of global uncertainty. There are no solid outcomes defined; nevertheless, the narrative points to a certain—more fluid—way out. Through introducing alternative ways of hermeneutics and meaning-making, the book offers a synthesis of postmodern philosophy and therapy, evolutionary astrology as a symbolic language, embodied inquiry, and Buddhist thought that together represent a critical attempt to challenge the pathologizing discursive practices of modern disciplines during the neoliberal capitalist era.

Abstract Changing American culture is challenging and changing attitudes and behaviors around the universal experience of aging especially so. Unless the field of advocates who care about aging issues cultivates a more visible, more informed conversation on older people, it will remain difficult to advance the systemic changes needed to adjust to a society with increased and increasing longevity. Advocates will need to be vigilant to avoid cueing negative attitudes towards aging and aging policies. The Reframing Aging Initiative is a long-term, social change endeavor designed to improve the public’s understanding of what aging means and the many contributions older people bring to society. Using evidence-based research, the initiative seeks to teach advocates how to tell an effective story about aging that will promote positive perceptions of aging and reduce ageism. The time to change the conversation is now.

Foreign aid is a policy tool implemented with the purpose of fostering both hard and soft power abroad. Yet, previous research has not probed the effects of US foreign aid on public attitudes toward the US in the recipient countries. In this article, I argue that US foreign aid may actually feed anti-Americanism: aid indirectly creates winners and losers in the recipient countries, such that politically discontented people may blame the US for the survival of the prevailing regime. Drawing on Pew Research for Global Attitudes and on USAID Greenbook datasets, I focus on determining both the conditions under which foreign aid exacerbates anti-Americanism and the type of aid most likely to do this. The findings reveal that political losers of the recipient countries are more likely to express negative attitudes toward the USA as the amount of US aid increases, whereas political winners enjoy the results of US aid and view the USA positively accordingly. Moreover, the effect of US aid on attitudes toward the USA is also conditional on the regime type. While US aid increases the likelihood of anti-American attitudes among the losers in non-democratic countries, it decreases the likelihood of anti-Americanism among the losers in democratic ones. This article has important implications for policy in terms of determining how and to whom to provide aid in the context of the possible ramifications of providing aid at the individual level.

This article aims to investigate the relationship between ethno-religious identity and the social distancebetween Muslims and Christians in Ambon and Yogyakarta, taking into account factors at the individual level.Also, this research is addressed to fll a gap in the literature between studies that emphasize economic andpolitical competition as the main sources of con?ict, and studies that focus on prejudice and discriminationas causes of con?ict. The central question is: to what extent is ethno-religious identifcation present amongMuslims and Christians in Ambon and Yogyakarta and observable in their daily lives? This research usessocial identity theory that attempts to question why people like their in-group, and dislike out-groups. Thetheory says that individuals struggle for positive in-group distinctiveness, and have positive attitudes towardtheir in-group and negative attitudes towards out-groups. This research uses both quantitative and qualitative approaches. A survey was conducted with 1500 university students from six universities in Ambon andYogyakarta. By using quantitative and qualitative methods of analysis, this study came up with several fndings. Firstly, the study found high levels of religious identifcation among Muslim and Christian respondents,demonstrated by their participation in religious practices, which we defne as frequency of praying, attendingreligious services, and reading the Holy Scriptures. Secondly, social distance consists of contact avoidance,avoidance of future spouses from another religion, and the support for residential segregation. Di?erencesfrom the mean show that Muslim respondents tend to display higher contact avoidance and support forresidential segregation compared to Christian respondents. Thirdly, analysis of variance demonstrates thatelements of ethno-religious identity are related signifcantly to elements of social distance.

Topic The development of the Critical Care Beacon Collaborative to achieve meaningful recognition. Clinical Relevance Recognizing nurses for contributions to their work environment and care delivery is important for their professional and personal fulfillment, job satisfaction, and retention; such recognition can occur at the individual, unit, or organizational level. The American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Magnet Recognition Program acknowledges nursing excellence at the organizational level. It would, however, be difficult for an organization to achieve Magnet designation without nursing excellence at the unit level. To recognize excellence at the unit level, the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses developed the Beacon Award in 2003. Objective To describe one academic medical center’s journey toward winning Beacon Awards across 8 units within the adult critical care service. Content Covered The Critical Care Beacon Collaborative resulted in a Beacon Award for each unit and important staff outcomes. This article describes the organization, the process before the Critical Care Beacon Collaborative convened and the desired state, and the methods used to achieve our goal. It also discusses unit- and service-level stakeholder involvement. The successes, lessons learned, sustainability, and growth of the Critical Care Beacon Collaborative are shared to assist readers who aspire to pursue a Beacon Award.

AbstractGastritis is inflammation of the gastric mucosa which can last for six months or more and can cause recurrence. Gastritis is characterized by signs and symptoms, namely pain in the gut or epigacentrum, vomiting, nausea and vomiting. Pain is a personal experience that is described by the individual himself with several factors such as psychological that can control the pain. Pain can be treated with pharmacological and non-pharmacological techniques. An example of a non-pharmacological technique is the progressive muscle relaxation technique. Progressive muscle relaxation is a technique for reducing pain by moving the body so that it relaxes tight muscles. The purpose of this scientific paper is to describe the effect of progressive muscle relaxation techniques to reduce pain in gastritis patients. The method used in this scientific paper is Literature review by searching for journals with the title the effect of progressive muscle relaxation techniques to reduce pain in gastritis patients. The results obtained after progressive muscle relaxation measures are reduced or lost pain in gastritis patients. The conclusion of this scientific paper is that progressive muscle relaxation techniques can reduce pain in gastritis patients. Suggestions for nurses are expected to be able to apply complementary therapy to gastritis patients who experience pain with progressive muscle relaxation techniques.Keywords:Gastritis, Pain, Progressive Muscle Relaxation Techniques AbstrakGastritis adalah mukosa lambung mengalami peradangan yang dapat berangsung lama selama enam bulan atau lebih dan dapat menimbulkan kekambuhan. Nyeri merupakan pengalaman pribadi yang digambarkan oleh individu itu sendiri dengan beberapa faktor seperti psikologis yang dapat mengontrol nyeri tersebut. Nyeri dapat ditangani dengan teknik farmakologi dan non farmakologi. Contoh teknik non farmakologi adalah teknik relaksasi otot progresif. Relaksasi otot progresif adalah teknik untuk menurunkan nyeri dengan melakukan gerakan gerakan tubuh sehingga meriekskan otot otot yang kaku. Tujuan karya tulis ilmiah ini adalah untuk mengetahui gambaran pengaruh teknik relaksasi otot progresif untuk menurunkan nyeri pada pasien gastritis. Metode yang digunakan dalam karya tulis ilmiah ini adalah literature riview dengan mencari jurnal dengan judul pengaruh teknik relaksasi otot progresif untuk menurunkan nyeri pada pasien gastritis. Hasil yang didapatkan setelah dilakukan tindakan relaksasi otot progresif adalah berkurang atau hilang rasa nyeri pada pasien gastritis. Kesimpulan karya tulis ilmiah ini adalah teknik relaksasi otot progresif dapat menurunkan nyeri pada pada pasien gastritis. Saran bagi perawat diharapkan dapat menerapkan terapi komplementer terhadap pasien gastritis yang mengalami nyeri dengan teknik relaksasi otot progresif.
