The Impact of the Work Environment on Innovation and Business Sustainability in SMEs

Innovation is a process, where the interpersonal relationships of employees are key to the creation of ideas that will contribute to the generation of value for organizations in the face of disruptive environments. This chapter analyzes the relationship between the work environment as a key factor and its impact on the development of innovation processes and business sustainability, taking as a sample 182 SMEs, from commercial, footwear, and textile sectors from the city of Cúcuta. The results showed an interrelation between the organizational climate and the culture of innovation as an agent that generates change that contributes to business sustainability.

The purpose of this article is to analyze the role of Endomarketing in the construction of the work atmosphere. It will be investigated the impact that investments or lack of investments in Endomarketing actions create regarding to employee's perception of their work environment and the interpersonal relationships within the organization . The author intends to focus specifically on how issues of diversity and inclusion can affect positively and / or negatively the professional and interpersonal development of employees and, consequently, be reflected on the team and company results. It will discussed the issues involving the subject and the impact of his/her social spheres in the relationship between the co-workers and in professional performance, the role of managers in mediating these aspects will be taken in consideration as well.

To clarify the relationship between changes in photochemical oxidants’ (Ox) concentrations and their precursors in Kawasaki, a series of analyses were conducted using data on Ox, their precursors, nitrogen oxides (NOx) and volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and meteorology that had been monitored throughout the city of Kawasaki for 30 years from 1990 to 2019. The trend in air temperature was upward, wind speed was downward, and solar radiation was upward, indicating an increasing trend in meteorological factors in which Ox concentrations tend to be higher. Between 1990 and 2013, the annual average Ox increased throughout Kawasaki and remained flat after that. The three-year moving average of the daily peak increased until 2015, and after that, it exhibited a slight decline. The amount of generated Ox is another important indicator. To evaluate this, a new indicator, the daytime production of photochemical oxidant (DPOx), was proposed. DPOx is defined by daytime averaged Ox concentrations less the previous day’s nighttime averaged Ox concentrations. The trend in DPOx from April to October has been decreasing since around 2006, and it was found that this indicator reflects the impact of reducing emissions of NOx and VOCs in Kawasaki.

Emboldened by American partiality for the Israeli occupation and the feeble Arab-Islamic support for the Palestinian cause, Israel has been taking advantage, over the last five years, of the current events and changing conditions prevailing in the regional Arab system. The Israeli occupation authority employs the two contingent devices of education and the economy in occupied Jerusalem as a base for counter-action in its desperate effort to hit the collective political consciousness that demands terminating occupation, liberation and self-determination. The occupation authority in occupied Jerusalem has employed a systematic scheme to isolate the city from the rest of the West Bank territories. Their aim is to destroy its trade movement in order to tighten the loop of hegemony around the vital economic and social sectors, and to deprive the Palestinian Authority from returns of tourism. Life for the residents of the city has become complicated in every possible way, prompting them to abandon their city. All this would be a part of a ‘voluntary immigration’ policy as a prelude to Judaizing the city, evacuating its residents, replacing them with settlers and, ultimately, dropping the city off the partition claims. The measures adopted by the occupation authorities take advantage of the educational and economic dimensions and employ them as leverage for penetrating the articulating points of the resisting Jerusalemite society. This goal is being achieved by shaking the foundations of the educational system and by obstructing endeavours seeking to improve and propagate it. The occupation authority continued to perpetrate its scheme of ‘displacement/settlement’ when it recently expelled 100,000 Jerusalemites from their city. In light of the aforesaid, this research examines, as its main theme, the impact of putting the educational and economic dimensions to use in the Israeli project against occupied Jerusalem, on the fate of the city, and on the equation of the Arab–Israeli conflict. The paper also argues that it would be natural that a popular youth movement emerging in the face of Israel’s intransigence will nominate its own political leadership, dissociated from the political leadership of the Palestinian factions, so that insurrection can continue.

Abstrak:. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui strategi pemberdayaan pengecer dan penjual tradisional dalam meningkatkan daya saing terhadap pasar modern di wilayah Kota Tegal. Dalam penelitian ini metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah analisis deskriptif. Penelitian ini menafsirkan dan menguraikan data yang bersangkutan dengan situasi yang sedang terjadi, sikap serta pandangan yang terjadi di dalam suatu masyarakat, pertentangan antara dua keadaan atau lebih, hubungan antar variable yang timbul, perbedaan antar fakta yang ada serta pengaruhnya terhadap suatu kondisi, dan sebagainya. Hasil penelitian dapat disimpulkan bahwa pengecer dan penjual tradisional di Kota Tegal memiliki banyak kelemahan dalam menghadapi persaingan dengan minimarket modern. Meskipun ada beberapa undang-undang dan peraturan pemerintah tentang perlindungan pengecer / penjual tradisional dalam menghadapi pasar modern, peraturan ini tidak berfungsi secara optimal. Pengecer dan penjual tradisional dalam menghadapi persaingan memiliki strategi agar tetap bisa bertahan. Namun, dalam menerapkan strateginya para pelaku mengalami bermacam-macam kendala dalam mengatasi kendala-kendala yang ada dibutuhkan dukungan dari pemerintah.   Kata kunci: Pengecer, Penjual Tradisional, Daya saing, Pasar modern   Abstract:  The purpose of this study was to determine the strategy of empowering traditional retailers and sellers in enhancing competitiveness of modern markets in the City of Tegal. In this research the research method used is descriptive analysis. This study interprets and describes the data concerned with the situation that is happening, attitudes and views that occur in a society, conflict between two or more conditions, the relationship between variables that arise, differences between existing facts and their influence on a condition, and so on . The results of the study concluded that traditional retailers and sellers in Tegal City had many weaknesses in facing competition with modern minimarkets. Although there are several laws and government regulations regarding the protection of traditional retailers / sellers in dealing with modern markets, these regulations do not function optimally. Traditional retailers and sellers in the face of competition have a strategy to stay afloat. However, in implementing the strategy the actors experienced various obstacles in overcoming the existing obstacles needed support from the government.   Keywords: Retailers, Traditional Sales, Competitiveness, Modern Markets

This study investigated the impact of training and development and supervisors support on employees retention. Furthermore, the current study also investigates the moderating effect of the work environment on the relationship between training and development, supervisors support, and employees’ retention. A survey was undertaken to collect data from 250 faculty members working in public sector universities in Pakistan. PLS path modeling was employed to analyze the data. The results revealed that training and development and the support of the supervisors had a significant relationship with the retention of employees. Similarly, the results also revealed that the work environment moderated the relationship between training and development, supervisors support, and employees’ retention. Finally, the implications, limitations and recommendations for further research were discussed.

The article examines the impact of the great global economic crisis of 2008-2020. on Eurasian integration, the relationship between the old and the new center of global capitalism. An analysis is made of what results, for what reasons and how the further construction of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) will lead in the face of the unfriendliness of Western states and a simultaneous crisis of their strategy in the economy and politics. Namely: the formation of a large continental market, a stable system of interstate cooperation, the implementation of an interethnic protectionist policy that encourages production and consumption within the EAEU. The prospect of such development makes the project attractive for countries outside Eurasia, which leads to the birth of the Eurasian consensus as an international economic and political agenda.This will largely become decisive for the global economic agenda for 2021-2045, that is, for the period of a new upward wave according to N.D. Kondratyev.

Abstract Introduction Successful treatment of obstructive sleep apnea requires adherence to positive airway pressure (PAP) therapy. A key factor is the relationship between the DME provider and the patient so that treatment can be initiated and continued in a timely manner. Our quality improvement project aims to empower and enable patients towards active participation in their sleep apnea care. Our goal is to ultimately increase patients’ knowledge of their Durable Medical Equipment (DME) supplies company, and thus improve their treatment. The first step was to determine patients’ familiarity with their DME. Methods Forty-one patients with sleep apnea on PAP therapy volunteered to be questioned about their DME company during clinic visits at the Yale North Haven Sleep Center, Connecticut, starting November 2019. Patients were asked if they knew the name or the contact of their DME; whether they received adequate training on PAP therapy initiation; if they were receiving timely and correct PAP therapy supplies. They were asked to rate their satisfaction with the DME on a scale of 1 to 5; one being very dissatisfied and five being very satisfied. Results Only 12 out of 41 patients (29.3 percent) knew the names of their DME companies. The average satisfaction rating was 3 (neutral); 44% of patients were dissatisfied, or very dissatisfied with the performance of their DME. Detailed comments were mostly related to poor contact and communication with the DME. Conclusion Most apnea patients had difficulty identifying and contacting their DME. As the next step of this quality improvement project we plan to intervene to ensure that the patients have the name and contact information of their DME available and attached to their PAP machine equipment. We plan to repeat this questionnaire after this intervention to study the impact of this quality improvement project. Support None

Purpose In today’s knowledge economy the ability to innovate and develop new products is a key factor to sustain firm performance. Within this context, analysing the role of different components of intellectual capital (IC) becomes of foremost importance, as well as an under-investigated issue for small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The purpose of this paper is to investigate the impact of human, organisational and relational capital (RC) on radical innovation performance (RIP), as well as to examine whether organisational capital (OC) and RC mediate the relationship between human capital (HC) and RIP and whether OC moderates the relationship between RC and RIP. Design/methodology/approach The methodology consisted of a factor analysis and different regression models to test for mediation and moderation. The analyses are carried out on a sample of 150 micro firms and SMEs involved in the production of machinery or instruments and located in Italy. Findings Results show that HC is directly associated to RIP, as well as OC and RC that totally mediate the relationship between HC and RIP. Moreover, OC positively moderates the relationship between RC and RIP. Originality/value This study is particularly interesting because it adopts an overarching perspective on IC testing the interplay between the different components of IC. In addition, it focusses on the SME context which is under-investigated as far as IC and performance measurement is concerned.

The lived experience of returning to work after a bereavement remains relatively under researched. Within sociology, the notion of emotional labour has been explored at length, but the place and experience of grief in the workplace is less well understood. This research, framed by Hochschild’s work on feeling rules, focuses on professional individuals working in UK companies who agreed to discuss their experiences of returning to work after a bereavement, in terms of dealing with their own emotions and those of their colleagues, as well as navigating company policy in the area of compassionate leave. Qualitative data from seven semi-structured interviews were analysed, exposing key common emotional and experiential themes, particularly regarding disenfranchised grief, comfort in the familiarity of the work environment, and the impact of silent or awkward responses from colleagues. The emergent themes from the data were used to address the research objective of examining the relationship between grief, emotional labour, and the lived experience of returning to work after a bereavement.

Employees working across all domains of professions are exposed to workplace violence (WPV). Few researchers have investigated the effects of WPV on employee engagement (EE) and the impact of the work environment and organizational culture on their relationship. The aim of this research is to describe the effect of WPV on EE and clarify the relationship between WPV, work environment, organizational culture, and EE. A cross-sectional study was performed on the data, collected from 178 alumni of a university, currently employed in caring, customer care, managerial, and technology professions in Pakistan. Structural equation modeling (SEM), confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), analysis of variance (ANOVA), and Tukey post hoc tests were employed for data analysis. The results showed that 88.7% of respondents had experienced WPV during the last 12 months. Significant differences existed in the work-related harassment and physical violence reported by occupational groupings. WPV had a significant direct negative effect on EE (β = −.556**), work environment (β = −.440) and organizational culture (β = −.758**). Furthermore, the work environment (β = −.123**) and organizational culture (β = −.157**) have a significant negative effect on EE, and both mediated the relationship between WPV and EE. The results show that employees working in caring and customer care are exposed to considerable risk of WPV. The findings underscore that a supportive work environment and positive organizational culture play a mediating role between WPV and EE among employees.
