One of the appeals of conspiracy theories in times of crises is that they provide someone to blame for what has happened. Thereby, they increase distrust, negative feelings, and hostility toward implicated actors, whether those are powerful social outgroups or one’s own government representatives. Two studies reported here examine associations of COVID-19 conspiracy theories with prejudice, support for violence, and other and negative social outcomes. In Study 1 (N = 501), the endorsement of the more specific conspiracy theories about the alleged role of China was associated with more prejudiced views of Chinese and Italian people. In Study 2 (N = 1024), lowered trust in government regulations and increased hostility associated with the COVID-19 and generic conspiracy beliefs were correlated with justification of and willingness to engage in non-compliance with regulations, violent attacks on 5G masts, and anti-government protests. Across both of the studies, higher exposure to news about COVID-19 was associated with lower endorsement of conspiracy theories, but also with increased feelings of anxiety and lack of control, which in turn were correlated with higher COVID-19 conspiracy beliefs endorsement. We highlight the potential social problems which are associated with the wide-spread endorsement of COVID-19 conspiracy theories.

The Philippine gambling industry, and particularly online gaming, has recently emerged as a major driver of the country’s economy. The rise of this controversial industry has become a cause of concern for many Filipino citizens. For the past two decades, Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) has been a major driver of the Philippine economy. However, a new sector of the economy has emerged that appears poised to take over traditional BPOs: online gambling. With the emergence of online gambling, any citizen can simply log into a website and they can play the usual casino games like poker, roulette, and slot machines or even sports betting. Online gambling is just like having a wallet in your pocket right now and just waiting for the money to come in, you just pull out your cellphone and you gamble already right away, that easy. Technically, engaging in online gambling is legal unless operated by a Philippine-licensed offshore company. Unlike other countries, the Philippines does not have strict mandates against gambling. The research aims to cover if consumer attitude and government regulations are significantly proportion with the effect of online gambling behavior. Adding to that, the researcher has added an intervening variable which is promotional ads if it has a direct impact adopting online gambling behavior. By using a quantitative analysis, the study recorded 100 respondents residing in the Philippines and studying their opinion towards this new addictive behavior relating to money. The materials and resources collected have concluded that consumer attitude and government regulations have significant impact towards this unlikely behavior, while promotional ads remain irrelevant.

The purpose of this article is to describe the impact of bank interest ban fatwa on the development of Islamic Banks in Indonesia. Fatwa of the Indonesian Ulama Council number 1 of 2004 is the basis for various parties to contribute to realizing competitive Islamic banking. This fatwa has encouraged the Government to issue various rules in the form of laws and government regulations related to banking. The issuance of this rule is a serious proof of the government’s commitment to provide more space for the development of Islamic banking in Indonesia, in addition to being a proof of appreciation for the issuance of bank interest ban fatwa by the Indonesian Ulema Council. In addition, the bank’s fatwa on the ban on bungan has encouraged the role of the community to contribute real to the development of Islamic banking. The emergence of the Association of Islamic Economists (IAEI), sharia economic community (MES), the National Committee of Islamic finance which is now renamed to the National Committee of Islamic Economics and Finance (KNEKS) is a concrete evidence of community contribution to socialize and strengthen Islamic banking.

Hajj financial management, especially within the scope of the Ummah Endowment Fund, has a dark record that must be corrected. Not only limited to investment, but the discourse of Hajj funds for infrastructure is also one of the government’s efforts so that Hajj funds can provide use-value. Legal certainty, justice, equality, prohibition of acting arbitrarily, and creating welfare and social cohesiveness in society are the principles of good governance. In Indonesia, to establish an orderly organization of Hajj, laws and regulations, government regulations, presidential regulations, and regulations for the Hajj Financial Management Agency have been made. As for the formulation of the problem in this paper, how are the dynamics of the financial management of Indonesian Hajj?, and how are the efforts to manage the Hajj finances based on good governance?. This research is library research, using a normative juridical method with a statutory approach. Some of the findings in this study indicate that regulations in the financial management of Hajj provide a polemic of its own so that it loses its identity and principle. Dualism of authority, inefficient management, and the potential for fraud are demands to fix the messy financial management of Hajj, towards good governance-based Hajj financial management.

Abstract: The use of animals in research and education dates back to the period when humans started to look for ways to prevent and cure ailments. Most of present day's drug discoveries were possible because of the use of animals in research. The dilemma to continue animal experiments in education and research continues with varied and confusing guidelines. However, the animal use and their handling vary in each laboratory and educational institution. It has been reported that the animals are being subjected to painful procedures in education and training unnecessarily. The extensive use of animals in toxicity studies and testing dermatological preparations has raised concerns about the ways animals are sacrificed for these “irrelevant experiments”. On the other side of the coin are scientists who advocate the relevant and judicious use of animals in research so that new discoveries can continue. In this review, we discuss the evolution of the use of animals in education and research and how these have been affected in recent times owing to concerns from animal lovers and government regulations. A number of computer simulation and other models have been recommended for use as alternatives to use of animals for pharmacology education. In this review we also discuss some of these alternatives.

The Covid-19 pandemic has affected Muslim religious practices. Social distancing policy, which requires not to gather for any activities, are contradictory to the Muslim’s religious ritual which promotes congregational worship. It accidentally becomes concerns of Muslim intellectuals. Therefore, they publish their thoughts in either national or international journals. This article focuses on the results of the intellectual thoughts published in national journals. It employs descriptive qualitative method through journal searches. There are 16 related journals deemed to meet the requirements. The results of the study show that the social distancing policy is responded in pros and cons. Those who go with cons do not intend to refuse the government policies but to purely adhere to religious tenet because religion has long been believed while Covid-19 is perceived as a threat. In this sense, they are afraid of religion more than the Covid-19. Meanwhile, those who are pro are subject to not only government regulations but also religion. Therefore, the Covid-19 pandemic has brought about an adaptive attitude of Muslims to remain obedient to the government regulations by carrying out independent religious practices or through virtual spaces.

Abstract

Housing demand continues to increase along with the increase in economic activity and the number of residents in the city of Balikpapan according to the 2017 Central Statistics Agency as many as 636,012 people to 645,727 people. The increase in housing demand is driven by the community's perspective that home ownership must be met while housing availability is limited. Based on the Balikpapan City Government in the 2012 Regional Spatial Plan, the plan to develop a spatial pattern of cultivation areas is more directed towards the north and east parts of the city so that population growth and development are not concentrated in the city center. This is a challenge for housing providers to meet the needs of long-lived communities and migrant communities by building housing located in the East of Balikpapan City as a place to live. The increase in land prices is so high in Balikpapan due to the movement of the capital from Jakarta to East Kalimantan, making housing prices also higher. The limited land owned by the housing developer must be utilized as well as possible for the construction of housing units, construction of facilities, and the existence of green space in the housing according to government regulations related to Balikpapan City RTRW. Land owned by housing developers that vary in shape is extremely limited with the type of house being built also varies and the price of the unit offered is different for each unit. For this reason, the developer must be able to optimize the production of the type of house that will be built based on government regulations and the National Spatial Plan, optimizing the land to get the optimum profit. This optimization uses the assistive application of QM for Windows and obtained 98 units for type 40/120 and type 45/120 for 102 units with optimum profit yielding Rp 104,292,098,201 for the BEP method.

Keywords: Optimization; QM For Windows; Unit.
