Delivering high quality video content to customers is now expected to be one of the driving forces for the evolution of the Internet as it can be deployed in many niches of the emerging e-market. This chapter presents an originally developed Video Retrieval application with its unique features including a flexible user interface based on HTTP browser for content querying and browsing, support for both unicast and multicast addressing and a user-oriented control of QoS of video streaming in Integrated Services IP networks. The remaining part of the chapter is devoted to some selected methods of information systems’ modelling requested for the prediction of a system performance and an influence of different control mechanisms on quality of service perceived by end users.

Naver V Live, a South Korean live-streaming service, showcases video contents specific to the entertainment industry, such as K-pop and music. On V Live, K-pop stars and their fans can interact directly in a natural way, and V Live provides high-quality video content with novel topics. This study has identified key characteristics of video content that affect its popularity. A total of 620 video contents of five leading Star channels were classified on the basis of production company, type of video content, and whether it was live-streamed or not. The popularity of video content was measured by the number of comments, hearts, and views. To control potential bias, additional variables were set as control variables—such as the number of channel subscribers, mini-album sales, if the video content was previewed, and cumulative number of days since the video content was uploaded. For analysis, a hierarchical linear regression was conducted. The findings suggest future directions in video content planning.

The article is devoted to the topical issue of finding new effective and improving existing widespread compression methods in order to reduce computational complexity and improve the quality of image-renewable image compression images, is important for the introduction of cloud technologies. The article presents a problem To increase the efficiency of cloud storage, it is necessary to determine methods for reducing the information redundancy of digital images by fractal compression of video content, to make recommendations on the possibilities of applying these methods to solve various practical problems. The necessity of storing high-quality video information in new HDTV formats 2k, 4k, 8k in cloud storage to meet the existing needs of users has been substantiated. It is shown that when processing and transmitting high quality video information there is a problem of reducing the redundancy of video data (image compression) provided that the desired image quality is preserved, restored by the user. It has been shown that in cloud storage the emergence of such a problem is historically due to the contradiction between consumer requirements for image quality and the necessary volumes and ways to reduce redundancy of video data, which are transmitted over communication channels and processed in data center servers. The solution to this problem is traditionally rooted in the search for effective technologies for compressing, archiving and compressing video information. An analysis of video compression methods and digital video compression technology has been performed, which reduces the amount of data used to represent the video stream. Approaches to image compression in cloud storage under conditions of preservation or a slight reduction in the amount of data that provide the user with the specified quality of the restored image are shown. Classification of special compression methods without loss and with information loss is provided. Based on the analysis, it is concluded that it is advisable to use special methods of compression with loss of information to store high quality video information in the new formats HDTV 2k, 4k, 8k in cloud storage. The application of video image processing and their encoding and compression on the basis of fractal image compression is substantiated. Recommendations for the implementation of these methods are given.

In legacy television services, user centric metrics have been used for more than twenty years to evaluate video quality. These subjective assessment metrics are usually obtained using a panel of human evaluators in standard defined methods to measure the impairments caused by a diversity of factors of the Human Visual System (HVS), constituting what is also called Quality of Experience (QoE) metrics. As video services move to IP networks, the supporting distribution platforms and the type of receiving terminals is getting more heterogeneous, when compared with classical video distributions. The flexibility introduced by these new architectures is, at the same time, enabling an increment of the transmitted video quality to higher definitions and is supporting the transmission of video to lower capability terminals, like mobile terminals. In IP Networks, while Quality of Service (QoS) metrics have been consistently used for evaluating the quality of a transmission and provide an objective way to measure the reliability of communication networks for various purposes, QoE metrics are emerging as a solution to address the limitations of conventional QoS measuring when evaluating quality from the service and user point of view. In terms of media, compressed video usually constitutes a very interdependent structure degrading in a non-graceful manner when exposed to Binary Erasure Channels (BEC), like the Internet or wireless networks. Accordingly, not only the type of encoder and its major encoding parameters (e.g. transmission rate, image definition or frame rate) contribute to the quality of a received video, but also QoS parameters are usually a cause for different types of decoding artifacts. As a result of this, several worldwide standard entities have been evaluating new metrics for the subjective assessment of video transmission over IP networks. In this chapter we are especially interested in explaining some of the best practices available to monitor, evaluate and assure good levels of QoE in packet oriented networks for rich media applications like high quality video streaming. For such applications, service requirements are relatively loose or difficult to quantify and therefore specific techniques have to be clearly understood and evaluated. By the mid of the chapter the reader should have understood why even networks with excellent QoS parameters might have QoE issues, as QoE is a systemic approach that does not relate solely to QoS but to the ensemble of components composing the communication system.

The majority of internet traffic is video content. This drives the demand for video compression in order to deliver high quality video at low target bitrates. This paper investigates the impact of adjusting the rate distortion equation on compression performance. An constant of proportionality, k, is used to modify the Lagrange multiplier used in H.265 (HEVC). Direct optimisation methods are deployed to maximise BD-Rate improvement for a particular clip. This leads to up to 21% BD-Rate improvement for an individual clip. Furthermore we use a more realistic corpus of material provided by YouTube. The results show that direct optimisation using BD-rate as the objective function can lead to further gains in bitrate savings that are not available with previous approaches.

By leveraging the development of mobile communication technologies and due to the increased capabilities of mobile devices, mobile multimedia services have gained prominence for supporting high-quality video streaming services. In vehicular ad-hoc networks (VANETs), high-quality video streaming services are focused on providing safety and infotainment applications to vehicles on the roads. Video streaming data require elastic and continuous video packet distributions to vehicles to present interactive real-time views of meaningful scenarios on the road. However, the high mobility of vehicles is one of the fundamental and important challenging issues for video streaming services in VANETs. Nevertheless, previous studies neither dealt with suitable data caching for supporting the mobility of vehicles nor provided appropriate seamless packet forwarding for ensuring the quality of service (QoS) and quality of experience (QoE) of real-time video streaming services. To address this problem, this paper proposes a video packet distribution scheme named Clone, which integrates vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure communications to disseminate video packets for video streaming services in VANETs. First, an indicator called current network quality information (CNQI) is defined to measure the feature of data forwarding of each node to its neighbor nodes in terms of data delivery ratio and delay. Based on the CNQI value of each node and the trajectory of the destination vehicle, access points called clones are selected to cache video data packets from data sources. Subsequently, packet distribution optimization is conducted to determine the number of video packets to cache in each clone. Finally, data delivery synchronization is established to support seamless streaming data delivery from a clone to the destination vehicle. The experimental results show that the proposed scheme achieves high-quality video streaming services in terms of QoS and QoE compared with existing schemes.

The key objective of no-reference (NR) visual metrics is to predict the end-user experience concerning remotely delivered video content. Rapidly increasing demand for easily accessible, high quality video material makes it crucial for service providers to test the user experience without the need for comparison with reference material. Nevertheless, the QoE measurement is not enough. The information about the source or error is very important as well. Therefore, the described system is based on calculating numerous different NR indicators, which are combined to provide the overall quality score. In this paper, more quality indicators than are used in the QoE calculation are described, since some of them detect specific errors. Such specific errors are dificult to include in a global QoE model but are important from the operation point of view.

The rise of short videos in the Post-epidemic era have caused the migration of Internet traffic to visual content. This new form of media based on communication technology and algorithm technology can arouse more emotional resonances of audiences, which promotes the formation of a Visual Public opinion field. The emergence of this public opinion field not only increases the risk of public opinion crises such as rumors and extreme views, but also points out the current direction of public opinion governance, and shows the importance of making good use of visual communication methods. Based on this, mainstream media needs to integrate and lead the visual public opinion field by entering the video media platform, producing high-quality video content, and reconstructing the visual public opinion ecology; the competent authority should do a good job in the visual public opinion field from the three aspects of ideology, technology and content. Supervision and governance work will promote a good long-term growth of visual public opinion field.

Video streaming is widely available nowadays. Moreover, since the pandemic hit all across the globe, many people stayed home and used streaming services for news, education,  and entertainment. However,   when streaming in session, user Quality of Experience (QoE) is unsatisfied with the video content selection while streaming on smartphone devices. Users are often irritated by unpredictable video quality format displays on their smartphone devices. In this paper, we proposed a framework video selection scheme that targets to increase QoE user satisfaction. We used a video content selection algorithm to map the video selection that satisfies the user the most regarding streaming quality. Video Content Selection (VCS) are classified into video attributes groups. The level of VCS streaming will gradually decrease to consider the least video selection that users will not accept depending on video quality. To evaluate the satisfaction level, we used the Mean Opinion Score (MOS) to measure the adaptability of user acceptance towards video streaming quality. The final results show that the proposed algorithm shows that the user satisfies the video selection, by altering the video attributes.

Background: Parkinson’s disease (PD) is the most frequent movement disorder. Patients access YouTube, one of the largest video databases in the World, to retrieve health-related information increasingly often. Objective: We aimed to identify high-quality publishers, so-called “channels” that can be recommended to patients. We hypothesized that the number of views and the number of uploaded videos were indicators for the quality of the information given by a video on PD. Methods: YouTube was searched for 8 combinations of search terms that included “Parkinson” in German. For each term, the first 100 search results were analyzed for source, date of upload, number of views, numbers of likes and dislikes, and comments. The view ratio (views / day) and the likes ratio (likes * 100 / [likes + dislikes]) were determined to calculate the video popularity index (VPI). The global quality score (GQS) and title - content consistency index (TCCI) were assessed in a subset of videos. Results: Of 800 search results, 251 videos met the inclusion criteria. The number of views or the publisher category were not indicative of higher quality video content. The number of videos uploaded by a channel was the best indicator for the quality of video content. Conclusion: The quality of YouTube videos relevant for PD patients is increased in channels with a high number of videos on the topic. We identified three German channels that can be recommended to PD patients who prefer video over written content.
