Configurable MES is a hot attention in today’s industry. In this work, we present a MES model based on a production process modeling method. With the workflow management technology, a configurable MES framework is introduced and some important implementation methods such as production process modeler, activity script language and production process scheduler are presented. A successful application of an automobile engine assembly line shows that this model is useful and effective.

To deal with problem of manufacturing system stability caused by uncertain factors in discrete production process, holon was introduced to manufacturing execution system (MES). A distributed manufacturing control architecture based on holon was established. This architecture using cooperation mechanism based stigmergy to realize agility, autonomy and intelligence of system control. Based on the architecture, holon driven agents to visit production elements, acquiring dynamic information of production process. Model design of production factors as order, resource, raw material, product and management factors as optimize, execution was described amply. Finally, workflow of this system was depicted with an example of uncertain order factor.

Aiming at the design and development of integrated Manufacturing Execution System (MES) of solar photovoltaic modules production, the difficulty of the manufacturing execution management was pointed out combining with solar photovoltaic modules production flow, the goals and main functions of the integrated MES were analyzed and designed based on the analysis of solar photovoltaic modules production enterprise’s main characteristics and management status. The physical data model of MES was designed by Power Designer software and some key function modules which include workshop plans and scheduling management, Workflow management and control system and process quality control were developed based on J2EE. The practical applications in some solar photovoltaic modules production enterprises were proved that the integrated MES could enhance the manufacturing management level of solar photovoltaic modules production effectively.

The use of grid manufacturing system, has become the trend of modern manufacturing technology. With reference to the idea of component design for workshop production business, a workflow and multi-agent based Grid of Reconfigurable of Manufacturing Execution System (GRMES) is presented. The configurable workshop production business can be handled, and the MES application system can correspondingly adjust with its change. The KQML is expanded to compensate for its description ability in the Workflow management system. XML is applied to support the data flow in GRMES, format the dispatched tasks and KQML, which can securely and concisely transfer different data among the workflow engines, agents and application on the GRMES. GRMES improves the problems such as adaptability and reconstructivity, which exist in the traditional MES.

Because of low level of informatization in automobile main gear reducer assembly line, it is proper to put forward Manufacturing Execution system to monitor, control and manager the production assembly line. First, functional requirements and coverage of MES system is investigated. Second, function of the MES for automobile main gear reducer assembly line is described. Third, the results of implementation on the line are discussed. It is proved that the efficiency of assembly line and the field management can be improved using MES system.

This paper studies the production process of a shipbuilding enterprise. The company suffers from long manufacturing cycle, low utilization rate of personnel and an unbalanced production line. To solve these problems, the lean shipbuilding mode, mainly divided into shipbuilding work breakdown, production plan and virtual flow operation in this paper, is put forward, which combines the lean production and modern information management technology with shipbuilding. Supported by the theory of work breakdown structure and task package scheduling, the shipbuilding task package is reasonably divided. The priority of task package manufacturing is determined by calculating the task package manufacturing sequence coefficient, and a reasonable number of operators is calculated to ensure the continuity of segmented manufacturing. After determining the manufacturing priority of the task pack and the number of allocable personnel, the corresponding work can be scheduled. Production planning drives all production activities of the shipbuilding enterprise, and just-in-time production is achieved through the reasonable arrangement of these production plans, thus reducing the waste of personnel and time. Then, the virtual flow operation is carried out, which can achieve high efficiency of flow production and high flexibility of fixed workstation production during the production process of large-scale and heavy-duty products. The virtual assembly production system of the workshop is established according to the characteristics of shipbuilding operation and the actual production situation. On this basis, a lean shipbuilding manufacturing execution system for small and medium-sized shipbuilding enterprises is developed to achieve lean production in a shipbuilding workshop. Through the implementation of the lean shipbuilding mode based on task package scheduling and its manufacturing execution system, compared with the original data, the ship production cycle is reduced to 76.7%, the number of workers is reduced by 16.7% and the production balance rate is up to 81%.

In view of the production quality management of filter rods in the manufacturing and execution process of cigarette enterprises, this paper analyzes the necessity of implementing the manufacturing execution system (MES) in the production process of filter rods. In this paper, the filter rod quality system of cigarette enterprise based on MES is fully studied, and the constructive information management system demand analysis, cigarette quality control process, system function module design, implementation and test effect are given. This paper utilizes the Fuzzy analytic hierarchy process to find the optimal system for processing the manufacturing of cigarette. The implementation of MSE based filter rod quality information management system for a cigarette enterprise ensures the quality control in the cigarette production process. Through visualization, real-time and dynamic way, the information management of cigarette production is completed, which greatly improves the quality of cigarette enterprise manufacturing process.

Manufacturing Execution System (MES) links plan management and workshop control in an enterprise, which is an integrative management and control system of workshop production oriented to manufacturing process. To overcome the difficulties of traditional software development method, development of MES based on component is adopted to prompt development efficiency and performance of MES, which can be more reconstructing, reuse, expansion and integration, and MES domain analysis driven by ontology is investigated in detail. MES domain analysis driven by ontology is feasible and efficient through developing a pharmaceutics MES which applied in a pharmaceutics manufacturing factory.
