The FWB Filter with Real-Time Detector to Suppress Category II Pilot Induced Oscillation

PIO (Pilot Induced Oscillation) is the key factor to damage the flight safety and decrease the quality of manned aircraft. Most of modern PIO records associating with rate limiting or position limiting from actuation systems are defined Category II PIO. The existing compensators, e.g. the Feedback-with-Bypass (FWB) filter, can reduced the oscillation potentiality of the pilot-in-the-loop aircraft system due to rate limiting of control surface, however a negative effect evidently arose which slow the response speed of whole system. This paper uses a Real-Time PIO detector based on Short-time Fourier Transform algorithm as a trigger to determine the switch-off time of the compensator working on the whole system so as to suppress the negative effect on responses of system by FWB. Simulation results show us the positive conclusion that this kind combined FWB filter with Real-Time PIO detector is effectively preventing the Category II PIO without performance decreasing.

Abstract Entomological collections are the target of various insect pests, e.g. carpet beetles (Dermestidae) and booklice (Psocoptera) which can damage and completely destroy dry specimens in a relatively short time. Collections in the National Museum, Czech Republic (NMP) including the entomological ones are protected by fumigation using commercially available smoke shells ‘Cytrol Super SG’; fumigation is performed twice a year. The active insecticidal substance of these smoke shells is cypermethrin (6.25%). We tested whether the repeated cypermethrin fumigation of the NMP entomological collections negatively affects the quality of mitochondrial DNA in dry specimens and prevents the subsequent use of these samples for molecular analyses required for identification, taxonomy, systematics, and phylogenetic studies. We used 32 freshly fixed specimens of the flower chafer Oxythyrea funesta (Poda von Neuhaus, 1761) and 32 freshly fixed specimens of the brown-tailed cockroach Supella longipalpa (Fabricius, 1798). One half of specimens of both species was stored outside NMP and not fumigated (negative control), and the other half was deposited in collection hall with the NMP insect collection and directly exposed to the fumigation. Subsequently, all specimens were processed in a molecular laboratory under a standardized protocol using one leg as the source tissue after each fumigation, and the 658 bp long barcoding region of the cytochrome oxidase I (cox1) as the testing gene fragment. Results of the PCR product electrophoresis and the sequences acquired confirmed that the repeated fumigation had no negative effect on tested samples.

Lane identification by intelligent vehicles in some common complicated conditions is a key technique. The parabola model of lane boundary is established first for fitting the curved lane boundary, and the objective function is used to estimate the fitting quality of the lane boundary is designed with the grayness character and grads character of the lane boundary in a gray image. To improve the speed of the identifying algorithm, the ant colony algorithm is applied to lane identifying, and with the guidance of the designed objective function, the positive feedback of hormone will consistently allow the search the best path within the searching region of interest as soon as possible, thus, the lane boundary is found. The method can effectively eliminate the negative effect of illumination conditions or shadows of trees, etc., and identify linear or curving lane boundaries exactly. The pretreatment to image is found and the searching region of interest is set, so the real-time identifying is greatly improved.

Purpose The purpose of the research was to assess whether hiring temporary staff at NHS hospitals had a negative impact on the quality of work of the permanent staff. The authors wanted to test the hypothesis that taking advantage of the flexibility of temps was a “false economy” because it distracted permanent staff from focusing fully on their own tasks Design/methodology/approach The authors selected two London hospitals with different approaches to temporary staff recruitment. Hospital A was a major NHS Foundation Trust and teaching hospital. It used NHS Professionals (NHSP) for the provision of bank and agency nurses, as well as doctors and locums. Meanwhile, Hospital B used its own internal bank staff as temps. Managers at both hospitals were asked to assess the work of the temps and its impact on permanent staff. Findings Results showed the generally negative effect of using temporary staff on permanent staff. But it depended on the nature of the temps. The more experienced temps could generally be trusted to get on with the job, whereas the inexperienced ones required more supervision. Other potential problems included the temps’ unfamiliarity with procedures that slowed down their work, and sometimes a lack of motivation as they were only there for a short time. Originality/value Based on the results, the authors proposed an approach to improved practice beginning with “macro-level managers.” They said that they may usefully be tasked with maintaining service quality as a higher priority than contracting costs, and ensuring that policies reflect the need for adequate staffing levels. They could also encourage permanent staff to do occasional temporary shifts.

The assistive, adaptive, and rehabilitative applications of EEG-based robot control and navigation are undergoing a major transformation in dimension as well as scope. Under the background of artificial intelligence, medical and nonmedical robots have rapidly developed and have gradually been applied to enhance the quality of people’s lives. We focus on connecting the brain with a mobile home robot by translating brain signals to computer commands to build a brain-computer interface that may offer the promise of greatly enhancing the quality of life of disabled and able-bodied people by considerably improving their autonomy, mobility, and abilities. Several types of robots have been controlled using BCI systems to complete real-time simple and/or complicated tasks with high performances. In this paper, a new EEG-based intelligent teleoperation system was designed for a mobile wall-crawling cleaning robot. This robot uses crawler type instead of the traditional wheel type to be used for window or floor cleaning. For EEG-based system controlling the robot position to climb the wall and complete the tasks of cleaning, we extracted steady state visually evoked potential (SSVEP) from the collected electroencephalography (EEG) signal. The visual stimulation interface in the proposed SSVEP-based BCI was composed of four flicker pieces with different frequencies (e.g., 6 Hz, 7.5 Hz, 8.57 Hz, and 10 Hz). Seven subjects were able to smoothly control the movement directions of the cleaning robot by looking at the corresponding flicker using their brain activity. To solve the multiclass problem, thereby achieving the purpose of cleaning the wall within a short period, the canonical correlation analysis (CCA) classification algorithm had been used. Offline and online experiments were held to analyze/classify EEG signals and use them as real-time commands. The proposed system was efficient in the classification and control phases with an obtained accuracy of 89.92% and had an efficient response speed and timing with a bit rate of 22.23 bits/min. These results suggested that the proposed EEG-based clean robot system is promising for smart home control in terms of completing the tasks of cleaning the walls with efficiency, safety, and robustness.

Slicing and cutting processing by inner-diameter saw blade has advantages of low cost and convenient adjustment of machine tool. In small size and batch processing, inner-diameter saw blade slicing and cutting is a common-used processing method. However, the wear of inner-diameter saw blade will seriously affect surface quality of workpiece cross section. It is necessary to monitor and evaluate the wear in real time. Based on the short-time Fourier transform, this article introduces a new method for assessing the wear of inner-diameter saw blade. By measuring and analyzing time–frequency characteristics of vibration and machining noise signals, wear is monitored in real time. The results show that it is a good method to monitor the wear of inner-diameter saw blade based on vibration of machine and machining noise signals. In addition, this method has no interference and influence on cutting work of inner-diameter saw blade, which provides a new idea for other forms of tool wear detection in engineering.

Therefore, real-time, comprehensive, rapid and accurate prediction of construction compaction quality through informatization detection method is an important guarantee for speeding up construction progress and ensuring subgrade compaction quality. Based on the function of the system, this paper puts forward the principle of system development and the development mode used in system development, and displays the development system in real-time to achieve the whole process control of subgrade construction quality.

Quality outcomes from vocational education and training (VET) are fundamental to ensuring a skilled workforce and supporting a productive economy. The quality of vocational training from the demand’s perspective is defined as meeting the customer specification, needs or requirements. Using the method of Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) and Multiple Regression Analysis to get the analytical results of 275 respondents as graduates of University of Transport and Communication, University of Transport Technology (the two universities training on transportation in the North of Vietnam), the results show that factors are measured by the observed variables in the study that ensure reliability and relevance. The descriptive statistics result of vocational training quality is 3.28, while all independent variables are at average level (between 3.1 to 3.48) with the highest value related to the quality of the teacher and the lowest are facilities and training programs and management capacity of university. However, the regression results show that the qualification of the teacher, material facilities and training program, management capacity and job opportunities at the training school do not affect the quality of the training while “Learners-NH” have a great positive effect and the labor market information has a negative effect on the training quality of the school significantly. Base on those data, some policy recommendations have been given out in order to improve the training quality of transport technology universities in the north of Vietnam in particular and the vocational training quality of Vietnam in general.

Now-a-days data streams or information streams are gigantic and quick changing. The usage of information streams can fluctuate from basic logical, scientific applications to vital business and money related ones. The useful information is abstracted from the stream and represented in the form of micro-clusters in the online phase. In offline phase micro-clusters are merged to form the macro clusters. DBSTREAM technique captures the density between micro-clusters by means of a shared density graph in the online phase. The density data in this graph is then used in reclustering for improving the formation of clusters but DBSTREAM takes more time in handling the corrupted data points In this paper an early pruning algorithm is used before pre-processing of information and a bloom filter is used for recognizing the corrupted information. Our experiments on real time datasets shows that using this approach improves the efficiency of macro-clusters by 90% and increases the generation of more number of micro-clusters within in a short time.

It must be recognized that the visual aspects (design) as the cover / envelope has crucial role to capture the prospective reader. For the cover of a magazine is a window that shows the content information, can be either a text or photographs, illustrations, and design elements. The function of a magazine cover is to attract, dazzle prospective readers, by way influence the thoughts flow in a short time. So it's no wonder much current the magazine publisher who made the cover of such a way as to attract the attention of prospective readers. Thus the task of designers to magazine cover to create designs that attract the attention of the reader becomes increasingly severe. This study tries to analyze a visual on the front cover Magazine Graphic Design 'Concept' birthday inaugural edition by using the Roland Barthes' semiotic approach. As Roland Barthes (1984), any simple "design work (magazine cover)" continue to play in management of the sign. So that will generate a message (image) specific.
