Effect of Polymer Modified Cement-Based Coatings on Steel Bars Anticorrosion and Bond Properties between Coated Bars and Concrete

In this paper the anticorrosion properties of steel bars coated with polymer modified cement-based coatings in chloride solution were evaluated. Then the pullout tests were conducted using coated and uncoated steel bars embedded in concrete specimens and the bond properties between concrete and bars were tested. The results show the steel bars coated with epoxy emulsion modified cement-based coating (HY) and elastic copolymer emulsion modified cement-based coating (GT) have satisfactory anticorrosion properties in 3.5% NaCl solution for 96h. But the pullout tests display that the bond strength between the concrete and the steel bars coated with GT coating is much lower than that of the bars coated with HY coating and the uncoated specimens. The bond stress between the concrete and the bars coated with pure acrylate emulsion modified cement-based (CB) coating is the highest among the three coatings, but the resistance to chloride permeability of CB coating is poor. The results indicate the special epoxy-cement-based coating (HY) is more suitable for applying to the anticorrosion coating for steel bars in chloride condition.

The corrosion behavior of CuCr, CuZr and CuCrZr alloys in NaCl solution is reported in this paper. The corrosion performance has been evaluated in NaCl solution atmosphere. The results show the corrosion resistance of pure copper decrease with the addition of the alloying elements initially. However, in the later exposure stages, the corrosion resistance of CuZr and CuCrZr alloy deteriorates significantly while the corrosion resistance of CuCr alloy is slightly better than that of pure copper. In addition, the results of the electrochemical experiments indicate that the different behavior for the element Cr and Zr in the base material and corrosion scales lead to the change of the corrosion resistance.

Purpose This paper aims to study the influence of NaNO2 on the chemical composition of passivation film. Design/methodology/approach X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction were selected to determine the composition of passivation film of steel bars in mortar. The specimens were exposed to the chloride solution, carbonation environment and the coupling effects of chloride solution and carbonation. The chemical composition and micro structures at 0 and 5 nm from the outer surface of the passivation film of steel bars were analyzed. Findings Results showed that the nitrite inhibitor improved the forming rate of the passivation film and increased the mass ratio of Fe3O4 to FeOOH on the surface of steel bars. The component of Fe3O4 at 5 nm of the steel passivation film was more than that at 0 nm. Sodium ferrite in the pore solution was easily hydrolyzed and then FeOOH was formed. Therefore, due to the nitrite inhibitor, a “double layer structure” of the passivation film was formed to prevent steels bars from corrosion. Originality/value This is original work and may help the researchers further understand the mechanism of rust resistance by nitrite inhibitor.

A non-interventional prospective cohort study was conducted on adult patients with cystic fibrosis, who received mucolytic therapy with 7% NaCl solution combined with 0.1% hyaluronic acid (medical product Hyaneb) and 7% NaCl solution for 4 and 8 weeks. Materials and methods: A total of 24 CF patients over 18 years old were enrolled in the study. A comparative analysis of respiratory function, therapy satisfaction, efficacy and safety of treatment was conducted following 4 weeks of therapy in 7% NaCl Solution Group (n = 12) and MP Hyaneb Group (n = 12), and the dynamics of these parameters was assessed against the background of the use of MP Hyaneb for 8 weeks (n = 12). Results: At week 4 of treatment, a significantly smaller number of patients complained of nasal congestion, ears and or accumulation of mucus in the throat and chest, irritation of the throat and unpleasant taste in the MP Hyaneb Group. No significant differences in the onset and increase in the intensity of cough were achieved. No significant differences between the groups in terms of spirometry parameters were identified. Findings: MP Hyaneb showed the best tolerability compared to 7% NaCl solution in adult patients with cystic fibrosis. The use of MP Hyaneb reduces the frequency and severity of irritation of the pharyngeal mucosa, cough and nasal congestion following administration for one month.

Background: Hypertonic solution is used to combat hypotension in sub-arachnoid block during trans urethral resection of prostate. Aims and objectives: To compare the effect of 3% sodium chloride solution with that of 0.9% sodium chloride solution, to combat sub-arachnoid block induced hypotension in trans urethral resection of prostate. Methods: A total number of sixty patients ASA grade I & II were selected randomly in two groups , thirty in each group. Group A received 15ml/kg of 0.9% NaCl solution and group B 4ml/kg of 3% NaCl solution as a preload. Sub arachnoid block performed at the L3/4 interspace in the sitting position. Heart rate, mean arterial pressure, amount of ephedrine, amount of used additional I/V normal saline, serum electrolytes and level of sensory block were observed. Results: Mean arterial pressure was differed significantly at late hours ie, 50min, 60min (P<0.001). Incidence of hypotension was 43% in group A, 16% in group B and was significant (p<0.05). Less additional I/V fluid was required in group B and difference was significant (P<0.05). Low doses of ephedrine was needed in group B and was highly significant (P<0.001). Conclusion: Preloading of hypertonic solution is superior to isotonic solution in trans urethral resection of prostate under sub arachnoid block. Electrodeposition was carried out on mild steel surface in 0.3 M sodium hydroxide solution (70% distilled water: 30% ethanol) containing 0.1 M salicylideneaniline using cyclic voltammetry and chronoamperometry techniques. Both techniques show the formation of the films on the mild steel surface. The corrosion behavior of electrodeposited mild steel was studied using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) technique at various immersion times in 0.5 M sodium chloride solution (NaCl). The study indicates that the resistance of mild steel against corrosion increases after being electrodeposited with salicylideneaniline. However the films tend to diminished after 24 hours being immersed in 0.5 M NaCl solution.

Based on the experimental studies, finite element models were built using ANSYS software to simulate the bond properties of steel bars in machine-made-sand concrete (MSC), which considered the nonlinear bond behavior of interface between steel bar and MSC. The concrete strength and the bond length of steel bar are considered as the main parameters for calculation. The complete bond-slip curves of plain and deformed steel bars are well simulated comparing those obtained from the experimental studies. The study gives an theoretical method to analyze the bond properties of steel bar in MSC.
