Impact resistance angular displacement sensors are widely used in motion mechanical system, which not only requires the sensor having the advantages of large measurement range, long life, also the sensor need to withstand shock and vibration. We use the finite element analysis on the key structure of the sensor and design the sensor circuit.. The sensor has the advantages of high strength shell and flexible packaging, and it can withstand the impact of the gravitational acceleration 100g on three directions.

AbstractThe destruction caused by ballistic ejecta from the phreatic eruptions of Mt. Ontake in 2014 and Mt. Kusatsu-Shirane (Mt. Moto-Shirane) in 2018 in Japan, which resulted in numerous casualties, highlighted the need for better evacuation facilities. In response, some mountain huts were reinforced with aramid fabric to convert them into shelters. However, a number of decisions must be made when working to increase the number of shelters, which depend on the location where they are to be built. In this study, we propose a method of using high-strength steel to reinforce wooden buildings for use as shelters. More specifically, assuming that ballistic ejecta has an impact energy of 9 kJ or more, as in previous studies, we developed a method that utilizes SUS304 and SS400 unprocessed steel plates based on existing impact test data. We found that SUS304 is particularly suitable for use as a reinforcing material because it has excellent impact energy absorption characteristics due to its high ductility as well as excellent corrosion resistance. With the aim of increasing the structural strength of steel shelters, we also conducted an impact test on a shelter fabricated from SS400 deck plates (i.e., steel with improved flexural strength provided by work-hardened trapezoidal corrugated plates). The results show that the shelter could withstand impact with an energy of 13.5 kJ (2.66 kg of simulated ballistic ejecta at 101 m/s on impact). In addition, from the result of the impact test using the roof-simulating structure, it was confirmed the impact absorption energy is further increased when artificial pumice as an additional protective layer is installed on this structure. Observations of the shelter after the impact test show that there is still some allowance for deformation caused by projectile impact, which means that the proposed steel shelter holds promise, not only structurally, but also from the aspects of transportation and assembly. Hence, the usefulness of shelters that use steel was shown experimentally. However, shelter construction should be suitable for the target environment.

Based on experiments and finite element analysis, the impact resistance of metal flexible net was studied, which can provide reference for the application of metal flexible net in rock fall protection. The oblique (30 degrees) impact experiment of metal flexible net was carried out, the corresponding finite element (FE) to the experiment was established, and the FE model was verified by simulation results to the experimental tests from three aspects: the deformation characteristics of metal flexible net, the time history curves of impact force on supporting ropes, and the maximum instantaneous impact force on supporting ropes. The FE models of metal flexible nets with inclination angles of 0, 15, 30, 45, 60, and 75 degrees were established, and the impact resistance of metal flexible nets with different inclination angles was analyzed. The research shows that the metal flexible net with proper inclination can bounce the impact rock fall out of the safe area and prevent rock fall falling on the metal flexible net, thus realizing the self-cleaning function. When the inclination angle of the metal flexible net is 15, 30, and 45 degrees, respectively, the bounce effect after impact is better, the remaining height is improved, the protection width is improved obviously, and the impact force is reduced. Herein, the impact force of rock fall decreases most obviously at 45 degrees inclination, and the protective performance is relatively good.

In recent years, NASCAR and the Indy Racing League have improved the safety of their racetracks through the installation of the Steel And Foam Energy Reduction barrier (SAFER). The new barrier consists of a high-strength, tubular steel skin that distributes the impact load to energy-absorbing foam cartridges in order to reduce the severity of the impact, extends the impact event, and provides the occupant of the race car additional protection. During installation of the SAFER barrier, the designers realized that certain race tracks were designed with the emergency track exit in the outside of the corner. Because the SAFER barrier needed to be installed in these corners, a gate mechanism had to be designed for the barrier that would provide access to the track while retaining the safety performance of the system. Full-scale crash testing of the first SAFER gate design showed that the gate did not posses sufficient capacity to handle the loads experienced during a worst-case impact scenario. Non-linear finite element analysis was then used to redesign the gate mechanism. The original gate design was simulated using LS-DYNA in order to validate the computational model. Modifications to increase the capacity of the gate mechanism were designed and analyzed until suitable results were obtained through simulation. Finally, the redesigned SAFER gate was successfully full-scale crash tested.

Ultra-high performance (UHP) concrete is a special type of fibrous cementitious composite that is characterized by high strength and superior ductility, toughness, and durability. This research aimed to investigate the resistance of ultra-high performance fiber-reinforced concrete (UHPFRC) against repeated impacts. An adjusted repeated drop mass impact test was adopted to evaluate the impact performance of 72 UHPFRC disc specimens. The specimens were divided into six mixtures each of 12 discs. The only difference between the mixtures was the types of fibers used, while all other mixture components were the same. Three types of fibers were used: 6 mm micro-steel, 15 mm micro-steel, and polypropylene. All mixtures included 2.5% volumetric content of fibers, however with different combinations of the three fiber types. The test results showed that the mixtures with the 15 mm micro-steel fiber absorbed a higher number of impact blows until cracking compared to other mixtures. The mixture with pure 2.5% of 15 mm micro-steel fiber exhibited the highest impact resistance, with percentage increases over the other mixtures ranging from 25 to 140%. In addition, the Weibull distribution was used to investigate the cracking impact resistance of UHP at different levels of reliability.

The composite material plate with the central hole is made by the composite prepreg. During the laying, the circle Teflon sheet is installed into the center of the composite plate. After curing, the center circle area was cut-out and the composite plate with the central hole was observed. Three different central holes are designed by the diameter of 12 mm, 14 mm, and 16 mm. The composite plate with central hole is stroke by the impact-or to measure the absorption energy, and acceleration to compare their impact resistance. The finite element analysis is also used to analyze the mechanical behavior of the plate during and after the impact. The results showed that the energy absorption capability is lower when the central hole became bigger.

A calibration system was developed for time grating angular displacement sensors to calibrate errors of this type of sensor. In the system, the motor was controlled by ARM processor according to the setting value coming from the USB port of the computer, and therefore the motor outputted angular displacement values. Meanwhile, with the motor turning, the optical grating, which was used as the criterion instrument, and time grating turned together corresponding angular displacements. Several displacement values from a circle of sensors of time grating and optical grating were sent to computer by serial port to be processed. Furthermore, an error calibration algorithm, which was based on the least square method (LMS), was used in this calibration system. The precise of time grating can reach to ±0.7″after calibrating using this algorithm and the process of error calibration can be automatically made by the computer.

Abstract In this paper, we examine the energy absorption and containment capabilities of a newly proposed dual-ring design accounting for interactions between a released blade and fully bladed fan disk using 3D finite element analysis. The components of this dual-ring design are strategically selected to ensure high energy absorption and high impact resistance, thus leading to reduced damage of the disk and increased safety. Three containment ring designs are examined: (i) conventional single-ring design composed of one of titanium, aluminum or Kevlar, (ii) a newly proposed aluminium-Kevlar dual-ring arrangement, and (iii) dual-ring arrangement with an interfacial gap between them to arrest and contain the released blade and ensure free passage of the trailing blades. The results of our numerical simulations indicate that although the single-ring design resists penetration and contains the released blade within the confines of the disk, it does not remove the released blade from the path of the trailing blades leading to severe damage to the fan disk. On the contrary, our new dual-ring design, which contains an interfacial gap, has potential to successfully arrest the released blade within the confines of the ring and out of the path of the trailing blades. This design significantly can reduce the impact damage to the fan disk and reduces kinetic energy of the released blade to near zero in less than half a rotation of the fan disk.
