This work study the mechanical properties (tensile, flexural and impact) of four different formulation of HDPE/EVA/MMT nanocomposite with present of 1.5 phr compatibilizer as a preliminary study before further development of HDPE/EVA/MMT/EFB nanohybrid biocomposite. The ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) was varied from 0, 10, 20 and 30 wt%. Meanwhile the nanoclay montmorillonite (MMT) was varied from 0, 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, 2.5 and 3.0 phr. HDPE/EVA/MMT ternary blends were prepared by melt extrusion blending technique using a single screw extruder. The result found that in absent of nanoclay MMT, the tensile and flexural properties (strength and modulus) of HDPE/EVA/1.5 phr compatibilizer were decreased as EVA amount are increased. Meanwhile in absent of EVA gave the highest tensile and flexural strength which are 38.53 MPa and 35.02 MPa respectively. However the trend is reciprocal for impact strength. The Izod impact test found that 30 wt% EVA give the highest impact strength which is 103.88 J/m , followed by 20 wt% EVA, 10wt % EVA and 0 wt% EVA which are 59.91 J/m, 38.11 J/m and 30.63 J/m respectively. This is because EVA plays a role as impact modifier. Meanwhile incorporation of nanoclay MMT improved the tensile and flexural properties but reducing the impact properties.

This work studies the performance of HDPE/kenaf biocomposite by varying the kenaf loading from 10 wt% to 50 wt%. Compounding has carried out by using single screw extruder. The result indicates that at 10 wt% of kenaf loading gave the highest tensile and impact strength which are25.32 MPa and 102.25 MPa respectively. Beside, at 10% to 50% of kenaf loading show increasing tensile modulus, flexural modulus and flexural strength with increment of kenaf fiber but decreasing in tensile strength and impact strength.

The objective of this study is to investigate the effect of sepiolite concentration (2-10 phr) on the mechanical properties of polyamide 6 (PA6) / ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) blend at the ratio 80/20. Twin screw extruder and injection moulding machine were used to prepare the samples. The strength and modulus of flexural was increased until 6 phr of sepiolite content. On the other hand, the impact strength of PA6/EVA/sepiolite composite was decreased gradually as sepiolite content increased.

In this work, PLA /PEBA blends with the addition of different PEBA contents were prepared via self-made Triple-Single Screw Extruder, the phase morphology, mechanical properties thermal stability of PLA /PEBA blends with PEBA content were investigated. For the pure PLA, the tensile strength decreased, while the elongation at break and the impact strength increased significantly with addition of 15% PEBA. The which were improved nearly 23 and 5 times. The results illustrate that the soft component PEBA was beneficial to improve the tensile ductility and the toughness of PLA. SEM measurements indicate the PEBA and PLA intertwined with each other, two phases interface bond tightly, improving the compatibility of the blends when PEBA content is not more than 15 wt%, with further increasing PEBA, the two-phase interface appears and decreases the interfacial adhesion, resulting in the poor mechanical properties of blends.TG results reveal that thermal stability of PLA/PEBA blends was improved.

The screw edge width is usually selected based on experience when designing screw extruders, and it is difficult to get the best extrusion quality. The extrusion process of screw extruder is a process of multi-phase flow, which includes gas, liquid and solid. Making it simplified to single-phase flow process can cause relatively large error. This paper adopts the method of multi-phase flow to simulate the extrusion process of single-screw extruder based on different screw edge width by using the finite element analysis software, and get the conclusion that increasing the screw edge width appropriately under the condition that the production efficiency is acceptable is helpful to improve the extrusion quality of single-screw extruders.

To improve the miscibility of native rice starch granules and poly(butylene adipate-co-terephthalate)(PBAT), rice starch was hydrolyzed by a mixture of α-amylase and amyloglucosidase. The obtained porous rice granular starch was then mechanically blended with PBAT by single screw extruder. Many pits and holes on the surface of starch granules were observed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The rough surface of the rice starch granules improved the compatibility of the polymers in the blends, which consequently increased the tensile strength and the elongation at break. In addition, SEM also revealed that the porous granules were homogeneously distributed in the polymer matrix with no appearance of gaps.
