A three-dimensional model of as haft-hub of compressor impeller was set up by Pro/E. Based on the ANSYS; the finite element model was established, using the analysis method of combining submodle and paramesh. The shaft-hub of compressor impeller was simulated by virtual orthogonal design optimization method. Based on the fact that there existed radial fretting in the shaft-hub interference fit joint, researching the influence significance order and law of interference, friction coefficient and rotating speed to the maximum unit frictional work , the average friction work and the optimized parameter were obtained. It turned out that the results of the numerical simulation and orthogonal experiment were accurate and reliable, with the friction and wear effectively reduced, certain guiding references to actual assembly process were got.

This paper focuses on the effects of the off-design operation of CAES on the dynamic characteristics of the triple-gear-rotor system. A finite element model of the system is set up with unbalanced excitations, torque load excitations, and backlash which lead to variations of tooth contact status. An experiment is carried out to verify the accuracy of the mathematical model. The results show that when the system is subjected to large-scale torque load lifting at a high rotating speed, it has two stages of relatively strong periodicity when the torque load is light, and of chaotic when the torque load is heavy, with the transition between the two states being relatively quick and violent. The analysis of the three-dimensional acceleration spectrum and the meshing force shows that the variation in the meshing state and the fluctuation of the meshing force is the basic reasons for the variation in the system response with the torque load. In addition, the three rotors in the triple-gear-rotor system studied show a strong similarity in the meshing states and meshing force fluctuations, which result in the similarity in the dynamic responses of the three rotors.

In this paper, the three-dimensional model of derusting spray painting robot is established with 3-D software SolidWorks; and the afinite element model of the vertical guide rail is set up with ANSYS. The static analysis is carried on, based on the motion simulation analysis result of MSC. ADAMS. Stress and strain distribution is intuitively obtained under the worst condition, which provides basis for improving strength design.

The changes of drilling forces during bone drilling provide a useful index for evaluating the risk of potential damage to the bone. The aim of the work is that an elastic-plastic dynamic finite element model is used to simulate the process of a drill bit drilling through the bone. The finite element model was set up in the Abaqus6.11; the prediction model of the drilling force was gotten by using the regression orthogonal experiment and data processing software Matlab7.0. Diverse values of drilling speed, feed rate and drill diameter are important factors which will lead to changes in the drilling forces. By controlling the drilling parameters can obtain the optimal drilling force. The results show that the diameter has the greatest influence on the drilling force, the drilling speed the second, the feed rate the last.

Based the CAE technology, the paper introduced the application of Moldflow Insight in injection mold design of mobile phone cover. First, we must preprocess the finite element model, including importing three-dimensional model, meshing, and process setting. And then, we can use preliminary simulation analysis to determine the number and location of the gate. Finally to filling, cooling, packing and warpage analysis for part which can help us to find the causes from warpage generated. By optimizing the molding process parameters, adjusting the dwell pressure and the dwell time we can get less warpage, which can meet the precision demand of parts, consequently, the result can provide gist for the mold designers to design and for the injection molding technologist to process parameter adjustment.

In this study the main causes of the failure of a GE-F9 second stage turbine blade were investigated. The stress distribution of the blade which has 6 cooling vents in three modes (with full cooling, closure of half of the cooling channels, and without cooling) was studied. A three dimensional model of the blade was built and the fluid flow on the blade was studied using the FVM method. The stress distribution due to centrifugal forces applied to the blade, temperature gradients and aerodynamic forces on the blade surface was calculated by the finite element model. The results show that the highest temperature gradient and as a result the highest stress value occurs for the semi-cooling state at the areas near the blade root and this status is true for the full cooling mode for the regions far from the root. However, the field observations showed that the failure occurred for the blade with the semi-cooling state (due to closure of some of the channels) at areas far from the root. It is discussed that the main factor of the failure is not the stress values being maximum because in the state of full cooling mode (the state with the maximum stress values) the temperature of the blade is the lowest state and as a result the material properties of the blade show a better resistance to phenomena like hot corrosion and creep.

Wave patterns in the Faraday instability have been studied for decades. Besides the rich wave dynamics observed at the interface, Faraday waves hide elusive flow patterns in the bulk – streaming patterns – which have not been studied experimentally. The streaming patterns are responsible for a net circulation in the flow, which is reminiscent of the circulation in convection cells. In this article, we analyse these streaming flows by conducting experiments in a Faraday-wave set-up using particle image velocimetry. To visualise the flows, we perform stroboscopic measurements to both generate trajectory maps and probe the streaming velocity field. We identify three types of patterns and experimentally show that identical Faraday waves can mask streaming patterns that are qualitatively very different. Next, we consider a three-dimensional model for streaming flows in quasi-inviscid fluids, whose key is the complex coupling occurring at all of the viscous boundary layers. This coupling yields modified boundary conditions in a three-dimensional Navier–Stokes formulation of the streaming flow. Numerical simulations based on this framework show reasonably good agreement, both qualitative and quantitative, with the velocity fields of our experiments. The model highlights the relevance of three-dimensional effects in the streaming patterns. Our simulations also reveal that the variety of streaming patterns is deeply linked to the boundary condition at the top interface, which may be strongly affected by the presence of contaminants.

This paper describes a theoretical approach to shift individual natural frequencies of centrifugal compressor impeller blades. The approach applies sizing optimization of blade’s geometry using a gradient-based optimization method. Calculation of gradients is carried out by the finite-difference method. A new centrifugal compressor blade profile generator incorporating a blade parametrization procedure is developed. The blade’s geometry is parametrized using intuitive geometric parameters. Five design parameters related to the length of the sectional profile generator line, profile thicknesses and rotation angles at hub and shroud are defined for each of the blade sectional profiles. In addition, two global design parameters are defined to control rigid rotation of the blade hub and shroud sections in circumferential direction. Four nonlinear optimization problems containing multiple frequency constraints and constraints on the static equivalent stresses are considered. The optimization aims are either shifting a particular natural frequency of a blade or minimization of blade’s mass. For instance, one of the considered optimization problems is to decrease the 1st natural frequency of an impeller blade by 5%, while the 2nd and the 3rd natural frequencies must be simultaneously increased by 5%. The analysis is applied to the centrifugal compressor of a small-size turboprop engine. A three-dimensional finite element model of the impeller blade is developed in ANSYS Mechanical software package to perform static and modal analyses. The results of the optimization show that the code can meet defined objectives and constraints with reasonable accuracy. A detailed comparison of optimized profiles with the baseline geometry is provided.
