This paper focuses on the effects of the off-design operation of CAES on the dynamic characteristics of the triple-gear-rotor system. A finite element model of the system is set up with unbalanced excitations, torque load excitations, and backlash which lead to variations of tooth contact status. An experiment is carried out to verify the accuracy of the mathematical model. The results show that when the system is subjected to large-scale torque load lifting at a high rotating speed, it has two stages of relatively strong periodicity when the torque load is light, and of chaotic when the torque load is heavy, with the transition between the two states being relatively quick and violent. The analysis of the three-dimensional acceleration spectrum and the meshing force shows that the variation in the meshing state and the fluctuation of the meshing force is the basic reasons for the variation in the system response with the torque load. In addition, the three rotors in the triple-gear-rotor system studied show a strong similarity in the meshing states and meshing force fluctuations, which result in the similarity in the dynamic responses of the three rotors.

A three-dimensional model of as haft-hub of compressor impeller was set up by Pro/E. Based on the ANSYS; the finite element model was established, using the analysis method of combining submodle and paramesh. The shaft-hub of compressor impeller was simulated by virtual orthogonal design optimization method. Based on the fact that there existed radial fretting in the shaft-hub interference fit joint, researching the influence significance order and law of interference, friction coefficient and rotating speed to the maximum unit frictional work , the average friction work and the optimized parameter were obtained. It turned out that the results of the numerical simulation and orthogonal experiment were accurate and reliable, with the friction and wear effectively reduced, certain guiding references to actual assembly process were got.

Pro/E software was utilized to build the three-dimensional model. Then, the large-scale computational fluid dynamics software ICEM software was used to build unstructured grid of wastewater treatment pool. Based on the CFX software,the wastewater treatment pool was numerically simulated by dynamic coordinate system technology and RNG k-ε turbulent model and PIOS algorithm, and fluid flew in the wastewater treatment pool was analyzed. Considering motor rotor system participates as part of the rotor system in calculation, rotor system of submersible mixer was strength analysis and modal analysis based on fluid-solid coupling. The results show that: the fluid in wastewater treatment pool can be propelled by the submersible mixer, and diffuses along the radial. The rotating speed of the submersible mixer is far smaller than critical speed, so the rotating speed is safe and reliable. This methold has certain significance. It can guide submersible mixer hydraulic performance in design, simulation and Engineering application.

A decaying compressible nearly homogeneous and nearly isotropic grid-generated turbulent flow has been set up in a large scale shock tube research facility. Experiments have been performed using instrumentation with spatial resolution of the order of 7 to 26 Kolmogorov viscous length scales. A variety of turbulence-generating grids provided a wide range of turbulence scales with bulk flow Mach numbers ranging from 0.3 to 0.6 and turbulent Reynolds numbers up to 700. The decay of Mach number fluctuations was found to follow a power law similar to that describing the decay of incompressible isotropic turbulence. It was also found that the decay coefficient and the decay exponent decrease with increasing Mach number while the virtual origin increases with increasing Mach number. A possible mechanism responsible for these effects appears to be the inherently low growth rate of compressible shear layers emanating from the cylindrical rods of the grid. Measurements of the time-dependent, three dimensional vorticity vectors were attempted for the first time with a 12-wire miniature probe. This also allowed estimates of dilatation, compressible dissipation and dilatational stretching to be obtained. It was found that the fluctuations of these quantities increase with increasing mean Mach number of the flow. The time-dependent signals of enstrophy, vortex stretching/tilting vector and dilatational stretching vector were found to exhibit a rather strong intermittent behaviour which is characterized by high-amplitude bursts with values up to 8 times their r.m.s. within periods of less violent and longer lived events. Several of these bursts are evident in all the signals, suggesting the existence of a dynamical flow phenomenon as a common cause.

The dynamic model of the three-span rotor-bearing system with rub-impact fault was set up. The influence to nonlinear dynamics behaviors of the rotor-bearing system that induced by rub-impact of one disc, two discs and three discs were numerically studied. The main influence of the rotor system response by the rub-impact faults are in the supercritical rotate speed. There are mutations of amplitudes in the responses of second and third spans in supercritical rotate speed when rub-impact with one disc, and there are chaotic windows in the response of first span, and jumping changes in second and third spans when rub-impact with two or three discs.

The underwater structure of power house is major structure under the dynamic loads of unit. The vibration problem is very common in operation. So the structures should have sufficient stiffness to resist dynamic loads of unit. This paper establishes three-dimensional finite element models with finite element analysis software—ANSYS. Dynamic characteristics of the power house and dynamic responses of structure under earthquake are analyzed. The results of the computation show that fluid-solid coupling may be ignored when studying dynamic characteristics of structures of the underground power house.

The seismic analysis on reactor structure was performed with a new generation of finite element software. The amount of freedom degree of the model was more than twenty millions. The typical responses to operational basis earthquake excitation were given. They are larger than those with two-dimensional simplified finite element method, and the reasons of this phenomenon were analyzed. The feasibility of seismic analysis on large-scale three-dimensional finite element model under existing hardware condition was demonstrated, so some technological reserves for dynamic analysis on complicated equipments or systems in nuclear engineering are provided.

This study discusses the wind-induced response of existing pitch-controlled 1.25 MW wind turbine structures, with a particular focus on the influence of the blade-rotation effect, cross-wind loads of the tubular tower and the wind direction, and compares numerical responses with the measured dynamic responses. An integrated finite-element model consisting of blades, a nacelle, a tower and a foundation is established. The aerodynamic loads exerted on the rotating blades and the aerodynamic loads acting on the tubular tower are then obtained. A wind-induced response calculation method of the wind turbine structures corresponding to different wind speeds and wind directions is established for performing a wind-induced response analysis. Finally, comparisons between the measured responses and the corresponding numerical response results are performed to verify the accuracy of the proposed wind-induced response calculation method. The results indicate that neglecting the cross-wind aerodynamic loads of large-scale wind turbine structures can lead to unsafe design. The wind direction has different influences on the along-wind and cross-wind dynamic responses. The statistical values of the measured dynamic responses are slightly greater than those of the numerical analysis results, but the magnitudes of the responses are the same. Therefore, the proposed wind-induced response calculation method for wind turbine structures is feasible and reasonable. It can be used to conduct the fatigue life prediction of wind turbine tubular towers in future research which is an important issue in the structural design of wind turbine tubular tower structures.

The complexities and the economic computational infeasibility associated in some cases, with three-dimensional finite element models, has imposed a motive for many investigators to accept numerical modeling simplification solutions such as assuming two-dimensional (2D) plane strain conditions in simulation of several supported-deep excavation problems, especially for cases with a relatively high aspect ratio in plan dimensions. In this research, a two-dimensional finite element model was established to simulate the behavior of the supporting system of a large-scale deep excavation utilized in the construction of an underground metro station Rod El Farrag project (Egypt). The essential geotechnical engineering properties of soil layers were calculated using results of in-situ and laboratory tests and empirical correlations with SPT-N values. On the other hand, a three-dimensional finite element model was established with the same parameters adopted in the two-dimensional model. Sufficient sensitivity numerical analyses were performed to make the three-dimensional finite element model economically feasible. Results of the two-dimensional model were compared with those obtained from the field measurements and the three-dimensional numerical model. The comparison results showed that 3D high stiffening at the primary walls’ corners and also at the locations of cross walls has a significant effect on both the lateral wall deformations and the neighboring soil vertical settlement.

In this study, nonlinear crash analyses have been conducted for the skid landing gear of helicopter. The realistic configuration of skid landing gear system is considered. Detailed three-dimensional finite element model with variable thickness and material nonlinearity is constructed for required impact design conditions. Advanced computational approach is used to conduct nonlinear transient impact dynamic analyses for different collision models. Characteristics of impact dynamic responses due to the ground crash are practically investigated in detail. It is also shown that the exact consideration of friction effect is very important to accurately predict the crash behavior of the skid type landing gear system. Finally, two typical landing conditions are analyzed and correlated with drop test results.

According to the practical situation, the 3-D finite element model of Sandaowan underground powerhouse caverns on Taolai River is set up for analyzing the behaviors under earthquake action. Based on static stress field of the surrounding rock mass, and with the selection of appropriate seismic waves for dynamic time-history analysis method, the dynamic responses of underground powerhouse caverns are analyzed. It is shown that the time-history waveform of dynamic displacement of given points has a very similar variation regularity with that of acceleration, and the wave phases of both are almost synchronous. The dynamic displacements and principal stresses of the given points on rock walls are with the vibration of low-frequency characteristics, the acceleration response is with the vibration of high-frequency characteristics.
