Many factors affect the precision of electric energy metering in measuring process, and distorted waveform is one of them. Based on maths principle and equivalent circuit model, the metering error related to electronic energy meter algorithm (metering principle), current transformers and voltage transformers is analyzed. Corresponding improvement metering scheme is put forward. Finally, taking the common nonlinear load-AC EFA (electric arc furnace) as an example, it is simulated in the MATLAB/Simulink simulation platform. The results validate the conclusions of the error analysis and some methods proposed to improve the rationality of actual metering operation significantly.

The strong coupling between the power grid and communication systems may contribute to failure propagation, which may easily lead to cascading failures or blackouts. In this paper, in order to quantitatively analyse the impact of interdependency on power system vulnerability, we put forward a “degree–electrical degree” independent model of cyber-physical power systems (CPPS), a new type of assortative link, through identifying the important nodes in a power grid based on the proposed index–electrical degree, and coupling them with the nodes in a communication system with a high degree, based on one-to-one correspondence. Using the double-star communication system and the IEEE 118-bus power grid to form an artificial interdependent network, we evaluated and compare the holistic vulnerability of CPPS under random attack and malicious attack, separately based on three kinds of interdependent models: “degree–betweenness”, “degree–electrical degree” and “random link”. The simulation results demonstrated that different link patterns, coupling degrees and attack types all can influence the vulnerability of CPPS. The CPPS with a “degree–electrical degree” interdependent model proposed in this paper presented a higher robustness in the face of random attack, and moreover performed better than the degree–betweenness interdependent model in the face of malicious attack.

Non linear load harmonics cause, Air Conditioning is one of the main types of inverters that generate non linear load harmonics. Harmonics on the Air Conditioning so that the reduction must not interfere with the quality of power on the system and network. The ability of an Air Conditioning unit to cool a room can be known as Coefficient Of Performance (COP). This can be seen from the comparison between the heat energy required to cool the room with the electric energy used on the unit. In this case you will know the impact caused by the reduction of the harmonics of the COP. Reduction of harmonics used in this study using 16 F capacitor which also serves as a power factor improvement. The results obtained after using the capacitor found impairment harmonic currents (IHDi). After the measurement of the COP also increased from 2,740 becomes 3,176. This proves that the capacitor also function besides improving the power factor can reduce the harmonics an improve the COP.

The electric energy quality problems caused by the running of wind power grid integration such as flicker and harmonic wave are increasingly prominent with the increase of the proportion of wind power. This paper describes the impact of the wind turbine connected to the power grid on the electric energy quality and conducts a trial test and proposes measures to improve the quality of electric energy such as improving the grid structure, improving voltage level of wind farm access system and the application of dynamic reactive compensation to the SVC and so on.

Power System Frequency Estimation Algorithm for Electric Energy Metering of Nonlinear LoadsIn this paper, a discrete wavelet transform (DWT) based approach is proposed for power system frequency estimation. Unlike the existing frequency estimators mainly used for power system monitoring and control, the proposed approach is developed for fundamental frequency estimation in the field of energy metering of nonlinear loads. The characteristics of a nonlinear load is that the power signal is heavily distorted, composed of harmonics, inter-harmonics and corrupted by noise. The main idea is to predetermine a series of frequency points, and the mean value of two frequency points nearest to the power system frequency is accepted as the approximate solution. Firstly the input signal is modulated with a series of modulating signals, whose frequencies are those frequency points. Then the modulated signals are decomposed into individual frequency bands using DWT, and differences between the maximum and minimum wavelet coefficients in the lowest frequency band are calculated. Similarities among power system frequency and those frequency points are judged by the differences. Simulation results have proven high immunity to noise, harmonic and inter-harmonic interferences. The proposed method is applicable for real-time power system frequency estimation for electric energy measurement of nonlinear loads.

For the sake of real-time online monitoring the operating state and parameters of electric energy metering devices, detecting the abnormal states of devices, predicting the trend of electric energy metering device error, and changing the traditional management mode for electric energy metering devices, which adopts the cycle test rotation mechanism, this paper has proposed a state management system of electric energy metering device based on NI CompactRIO platform. The proposed system can implement real-time online management for monitoring the measurement error of electric energy meter, data acquisition of electric energy meter, test of Secondary Voltage Drop and Secondary Load of PT, test of Secondary Load of CT, video monitoring, measurement of temperature humidity, measurement of space magnetic, etc. The system combines CompactRIO platform and electric energy metering devices to acquire, monitor and analyze the real-time online data corresponding to electric energy meter, CT, PT and secondary loop. And the Energy metering error and the evaluation of parameters of electric energy metering device are calculated by the CPU, and the data is exchanged with the remote station by communication network. So the system improves the management efficiency and benefits of electric energy metering devices.

Three-phase combined transformer has a large number of application to special energy metering in power grid, its performance is directly related to the accuracy of electric energy metering. So it is necessary to ensure its performance and accuracy. It rules that three-phase combined transformer should be calibrated with three-phase method, but most of metrology departments calibrate three-phase combined transformer in single-phase method. Based on the mechanism of the three-phase transformer, single-phase method and three-phase method had been compared on three-phase transformer experimental platform. The result shows that it would be large error when the three-phase transformers are calibrated with single-phase method. Three-phase transformer calibration should be operated with three-phase method.

Power Electronic development determines introduction of nonlinear devices in Electric Power Systems. Introduction of nonlinear devices increase current harmonics in Transmission and Distribution Power Systems. Distribution transformers and feeders increase power losses and their nominal parameters are reduced. Present work introduces a procedure to evaluate maximum permissible load in single phase distribution transformers with massive introduction of a new type of nonlinear load which changes daily demand graphs.
