In order to decrease the environmental problems in recent years in the world, caused mainly by foreign trade, changes and the introduction of environmental approaches within the business of companies are necessary. Eco design is a powerful tool that pushes boundaries in design, and at the same time participates in raising awareness about environmental protection. At the same time, it reduces environmental pollution and costs, and increases the environmental efficiency and profitability of organizations. Cost reduction can be a particularly important factor in attracting companies to introduce and apply this discipline. It connects with the circular economy and sustainable development and proposes instructions to designers to reduce their negative impact on the environment, choosing environmentally friendly materials, processes and technology. In the world, but also in Croatia, it is necessary to give priority to the development of technology for designing green materials and design technology, design techniques for cleaning paints and compounds and design techniques for a clean environment. The purpose of the article is to provide the public with a deeper understanding of how and whether there is a need to use more green products and furniture. Businesses need to focus on marketing sustainable furniture to a greater extent in order to increase the purchase, but also the awareness of green furniture consumption. The furniture industry is one of those committed to improving its operations in the territory of environmental protection. Eco furniture is easily repaired, disassembled and recycled, and there is awareness in its design, production and end use. Era grupa d.o.o. is a company that deals with ecological furniture that was designed and manufactured in Croatia and has reached a level of high environmental and ethical awareness. Furniture manufacturing is known to have considerable impacts on the environment and there is a definite trend towards environmental-friendly product designs in the industry worldwide. This paper reports the results of an exploratory research on the status of eco-design in the Thai furniture industry. Two basic research questions are addressed; 1) are there any eco-design activities and, if so, to what extent and 2) what are the driving forces that drive or hinder eco-design activities. A combination of research methodologies were employed; interviewing, survey, and actually examining selected products in the market. The results show that key personnel know very little about eco-design, but they have implemented a number of eco-design methods in their products and processes in practice. The driving force for such progress seems to be not from the environmental consciousness per se but rather the demands and requirements from the customers and the markets. The legal and supporting infrastructure to promote and move eco-design forward is just emerging and still rather weak. There are, however, considerable implementation problems and obstacles due to lack of technical know-how on the part of the personnel involved. It is concluded that the Thai furniture industry is implementing number of eco-design activities without knowing much about eco-design principles and the underlying philosophy. Public awareness and consequently the market force is key to moving eco-design forward. Effective campaigns and better education on sustainable development and eco-design, together with stronger legal and supporting infrastructure, would certainly help increase eco-design activities.

Abstract On the road to sustainable development, the concepts of energy saving and environmental protection are deeply rooted in people’s hearts, and their technology has penetrated into all aspects of life. Like the construction industry, with the advancement of environmental protection and energy-saving technologies, the prospects for development will also be huge. Many materials used in construction projects can cause pollution. Although environmental protection technology is supported, its technology cannot remain unchanged. Technical researchers must reduce the risks of materials and continue to innovate and develop environmentally friendly technologies. Only in this way can we continue to make progress, ensure that we have a high-quality construction project, and ensure that energy conservation is consistent with social development. Therefore, to use the qualified construction methods adopted for the renovation project, you can use what you have now and ensure its ecological and human safety. Reduce material costs and reduce environmental pollution caused by indoor raw materials. As a basic framework, it combines the definitions of modern environmental protection and energy-saving technologies, and effectively applies environmental protection and energy efficiency technologies. Decoration and decoration of energy-efficient buildings. Adopt environmental protection technology, rationally use various energy-saving and environmental-friendly materials, and raise awareness of energy conservation and environmental protection. In addition, in-depth discussion and analysis of energy-saving management of building materials and equipment are also conducted. The goal is to improve the awareness of energy conservation and environmental protection in building decoration projects and lay a solid foundation for creating an environmentally friendly and energy-saving living environment. Experimental research results show that people do not know enough about the application of environmental protection and energy-saving technologies in building decoration projects. Therefore, we must increase publicity to let people know better, and we must also increase efforts to innovate in order to better implement and apply. People and regions have better development.

Abstract Rotifer abundance and species composition in lakes of the Suwalki Landscape Park were studied in the years 1983–1985, 2009, 2012 and 2015. Rotifer trophic state indices (TSIROT) were used to assess changes in the trophic state of the studied lakes. In most lakes of the Suwalki Landscape Park, there were no changes in rotifer communities over the 25–32 year period to indicate a decline in trophy of the lakes. However, in lakes with the strongest decline in TSIROT values, the values of indicative parameters widely varied in 2015, which may indicate that the status of rotifer communities in the lakes may be dependent on non-trophic factors.

Marine coastal ecosystems are facing compositional and functional changes due to the increasing human footprint worldwide, and the assessment of their long-term changes becomes particularly challenging in this new "Anthropocene Epoch". Measures of change can be done by comparing the present ecosystem status to a defined baseline representing the reference condition. The "syndrome" of the sliding (or shifting) baselines, which describes the incremental lowering of ecological standards, has become a major concern when long-term changes have to be assessed because an already degraded environment status could be accepted as reference. The challenge of delineating ecosystems change in the context of sliding baselines is particularly relevant along highly anthropized coasts, as the case of the Liguria (NW Mediterranean Sea), where pristine coastal areas could not be expected anymore. The Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD, 2008/56/EEC) suggests three approaches to define reference conditions: i) comparison with the status in Marine Protected Areas (MPAs); ii) use of historical information; iii) modelling. Here we report recent applications of these three approaches in Liguria to assess the status of seagrass meadow ecosystem. Ligurian MPAs are too recent and often insufficiently enforced, so that Posidonia oceanica meadows developing in MPAs are far from the expected good ecological status. Available historical information on seagrass distribution was sometime unreliable. Models are promising but face intellectual difficulties (e.g., choice of descriptors). Validating historical data with predictive models showed effective in delineating the trajectory of change experienced by the Ligurian seagrass meadows. Many meadows have been lost and most are showing structural degradation, which favoured the substitution by alien green algae of the genus Caulerpa and triggered a phase shift in the seagrass ecosystems, with the consequent loss of biodiversity, functioning and economic value of the ecosystem services provided by healthy meadows.

Malaysia furniture industry has seen exchange from the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) to Original Design Manufacturer (ODM). These changes occur due to the local furniture manufacturers to add design value into their products. One of the ways out of this creativity rut was to revamp the model form producing or manufacturing product for international buyers in creating, designing and marketing our own product internationally. This study attempts to investigate the design capability of Bumiputera furniture manufacturing companies, that effects on the decline on design performance. Besides that, this paper also is to develop a richer understanding of how design capability can be introduced, accepted and sustained in the organization. 30 questionnaire survey was sent out to design managers or CEO of Bumiputera furniture manufacturing companies, and empirically demonstrate that both design and process management have an equal impact on design performance. This study uses a literature review and data collection from structured interview to document the findings. Then, it uses a data analysis (SPSS) to identify the appropriate components as design capability characteristics in developing the framework model. The framework model is to provide details of effects and actions on the companies, in order them to enhance their design performance. The finding shows the Bumiputera companies need to improve and enhance their design and process management with long-term implementation, in order to achieve the companies goal. With understanding the aspect of design capability, future efforts to develop the design capability become more successful and help to decrease the risk of design development.
