Ba(Zn0.3Co0.7)2Fe16O27hexagonal ferrites have been prepared by sol-gel method. Effects of polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP) on crystalline phase, natural surface and electromagnetic properties were analyzed. The XRD patterns of samples with and without PVP added both showed the single phase of hexagonal ferrite. The particle thickness increased when PVP was added. Moreover, Ferrites prepared with 2.0g PVP added into the sol solution had lower complex permittivity. Addition of PVP can be an effective way to obtain the electromagnetic match of hexagonal ferrites.

FeVO4photocatalysts were synthesized via a surfactant-assisted sol-gel method and characterized with X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microsoope (SEM)and specific surface area (BET). The photocatalytic activity was evaluated by photocatalytic degradation of methyl orange (MO) solution under visible light. The XRD patterns of no-surfactant-assisted, PEG-assisted, CTAB-assisted and SDS-assisted FeVO4, indicate that diffraction peaks can be well indexed as triclinc FeVO4. And the crystalline sizes of samples were evaluated as 113, 69, 66, 76 nm for FVO, FVO-PEG, FVO-CATB and FVO-SDS respectively. The addition of surfactant woul greatly affect the morphology of FeVO4photocatalysts, which can lead to different photocatalytic activities between them. In the experimental conditions used, the PEG-assisted FeVO4product had a much higher photocatalytic activity (the photodegradation rate was about 77% or so in 14h) than the other three products.

Indium-zinc oxide (IZO), with Zn/(Zn+In)=0.33 - 0.78, films were deposited by the sol-gel method. Effects of Zn/(Zn+In) atomic ratio and annealing temperature on the structural, electrical and optical properties of IZO thin film were investigated. Films of Zn/(Zn+In)=0.33 prepared at 600°C had the lowest resistivity value, 4.48X10-2Ω cm (carrier concentration=3.83X 1018cm-3and mobility=25.54 cm2/Vs), and the structure of these films matched that of Zn2In2O5film. Average optical transmittances of all films were above 80% in the visible range. The highest average transmittance was observed at Zn/(Zn+In)=0.5, with 86.8% in the visible range.

Abstract. Green light emitting Mn2+-doped Zn2SiO4 (Zn2SiO4:Mn2+) phosphor nano-particles were synthesized by sol-gel method combined with a furnace firing from the sol-gel solution made with ZnO, MnCO3 and tetraethoxysilan. The influences of annealing temperatures on the microstructures and photoluminescent properties of the Zn2SiO4:Mn2+ phosphors were investigated. The structural details of the phosphors were examined through XRD and SEM. The photoluminescent properties of the Zn2SiO4:Mn2+ phosphors were characterized by excitation and emission spectra. The results indicate that the XRD patterns of the Zn2SiO4:Mn2+ phosphors exhibit a willemite structure (-Zn2SiO4). Green photoluminescence whose emission peak is located at 525 nm were observed from the synthesized phosphor particles under UV excitation. The photoluminescent mechanisms of the Zn2SiO4:Mn2+ phosphors were discussed.

Abstract In the present work, nanocrystalline Sb3+ ions doped Ni0.2Ba0.1Co0.7Fe2−xSbxO4 (0 ≦ x ≦ 0.1, step by 0.025) ferrites were prepared via sol-gel method. The spinel-phase structure of samples can be confirmed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns. The composition and structure were further studied by fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). There were two typical characteristic bands ν1 and ν2 related to the stretching vibrations in spinel ferrite in FTIR spectra. Energy dispersive spectrometer (EDS) analyzed the elements of samples. It indicated that the elements of Ni, Ba, Co, Fe, O and Sb existed in the samples. Vibrating sample magnetometer was used to characterize magnetic properties. The saturation magnetization decreased from 57.65 emu/g to 44.50 emu/g with the increasing Sb3+ ions content, which is attributed to Fe3+ ions replaced by the Sb3+ ions. Remanent magnetization and coercivity first decreased and then increased slightly.

In this study, an exclusive sodium titanate (Na2Ti6O13) coating on titanium was fabricated by sol-gel method and evaluated in vitro. The coating was characterized by SEM and XRD. The bioactivity of the Na2Ti6O13 coating was evaluated by the biomimetic growth of apatite on its surface after soaked in an acellular simulated body fluid (SBF) for a period of time. In vitro osteoblasts culture was carried out to determine cytocompatibility by the measurement of the proliferation and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity of the cells. XRD patterns showed that Na2Ti6O13 was well crystallized when the coating was heated at 800°C. SEM observation exhibited that the Na2Ti6O13 coated titanium had a homogeneous surface without any cracks. After immersion in SBF, the apatite layer can be formed on the coating. The cells culture showed that the osteoblasts grew well on the Na2Ti6O13 coated titanium. It can be concluded that Na2Ti6O13 coating on titanium obtained by sol-gel method is bioactive.
