at present, the product quality that tire building machine presses tire is not ideal. The phenomenon that the tread isn’t pressed solidly often appears. Through analysis, the main reasons of this problem are those the actual rolling curve doesn’t accord with ideal curve enough, and roller pressure is unstable, pressure fluctuations are large. Therefore, ensuring the basic structure of institution is unchanged, this paper adopts optimization technique to calculate the size of planar linkage institutions and determine the best design result. It makes the moving point from the planar linkage institutions accord with tire section curve best. The article cites example of the engineering design, demonstrating the superiority of the new design method fully.

The type of beam-to-column connection in framework structure is determined beforehand in analyzing the frame structure using traditional design method. But it is not comprehensive and exact following that idea. It is difficultly to find the better and more proper design result such as the type of beam-to-column connection and the section of member in many viable design results. Therefore, a new design idea on steel frame -- the active semi-rigid connection design method is advanced in this paper. And some examples on the active semi-rigid connection design and the active semi-rigid connection optimal design are showed. From results, the type of semi-rigid connection makes an important effect on the mechanical behavior of the frame; it will cause the mechanical behavior of the frame to change obviously. And it will be got a better optimal result which considering more comprehensively in the whole frame view based on semi-rigid connection optimal design.

The article discusses methods for optimizing the design of the Neutron Converter research plant design with parameters that are most suitable for a particular consumer. 38 similar plant structures with different materials and sources were calculated, on the basis of which the most optimal options were found. As part of the interaction between OKBM Afrikantov JSC and the Nizhny Novgorod State Technical University named after R. E. Alekseev, the Neutron Converter research plant was designed and assembled. The universal neutron converter is a device for converting a stream of fast neutrons emitted by isotopic sources into a "standardized" value of flux density with known parameters in the volume of the central part of the product, which is the working part of the universal neutron converter. To supply neutron converters to other customer organizations (universities, research organizations and collective centers), it is necessary to take into account the experience of operating an existing facility, as well as rationalize the design process of each specific instance in accordance with the requirements of the customer.

Under high gravity loads, steel double-beam floor systems need to be reinforced by beam-end concrete panels to reduce the material quantity since rotational constraints from the concrete panel can decrease the moment demand by inducing a negative moment at the ends of the beams. However, the optimal design process for the material quantity of steel beams requires a time-consuming iterative analysis for the entire floor system while especially keeping in consideration the rotational constraints in composite connections between the concrete panel and steel beams. This study aimed to develop an optimal design method with the LM (Length-Moment) index for the steel double-beam floor system to minimize material quantity without the iterative design process. The LM index is an indicator that can select a minimum cross-section of the steel beams in consideration of the flexural strength by lateral-torsional buckling. To verify the proposed design method, the material quantities between the proposed and code-based design methods were compared at various gravity loads. The proposed design method successfully optimized the material quantity of the steel double-beam floor systems without the iterative analysis by simply choosing the LM index of the steel beams that can minimize objective function while satisfying the safety-related constraint conditions. In particular, under the high gravity loads, the proposed design method was superb at providing a quantity-optimized design option. Thus, the proposed optimal design method can be an alternative for designing the steel double-beam floor system.

The fluid–structure interaction (FSI) effect has a significant impact on the static and dynamic performance of aerostatic spindles, which should be fully considered when developing a new product. To enhance the overall performance of aerostatic spindles, a two-round optimization design method for aerostatic spindles considering the FSI effect is proposed in this article. An aerostatic spindle is optimized to elaborate the design procedure of the proposed method. In the first-round design, the geometrical parameters of the aerostatic bearing were optimized to improve its stiffness. Then, the key structural dimension of the aerostatic spindle is optimized in the second-round design to improve the natural frequency of the spindle. Finally, optimal design parameters are acquired and experimentally verified. This research guides the optimal design of aerostatic spindles considering the FSI effect.

A displacement-based optimization design method of RC structure was proposed by combining direct displacement-based design method with nonlinear programming technique. To avert the influence of target displacement, the stationary constraint displacement was presented, and the target displacement can be updated during the optimal design process. Principle of virtual work and Gaussian integral method was employed to simplify the explicit relationship between horizontal displacement and the section dimension. Comparison analysis of the local optimal results corresponding to different displacement shapes was conducted to achieve global optimal design. The numerical tests presented demonstrate the computational advantages of the discussed methods and suggesting that the proposed method is a reliably and efficiently tool for displacement-based optimal design.

Analytic model of electromagnetic linear actuator in the function of electric and geometric parameters is proposed and the effects of the design parameters on the dynamic characteristics are analyzed. To improve the dynamic characteristics, optimal design is conducted by applying sequential quadratic programming method to the analytic model. This optimal design method aims to minimize the response time and maximize force efficiency. By this procedure, electromagnetic linear actuator having high-speed characteristics is developed.
