Exploration of Height Control in Urban Historical & Culture Heritage Protection Area-Take Example of Qu Jiang New District of Xi'an

Height control is one of major concerns in historical and culture environment protection. The paper concerns that how to create good overall height order and proper handle relation between heritage protection and social economic development under precondition of meet demand of basic height control in historical and culture heritage protection area. The paper takes Qu Jiang New District of Xi'an as an example through comprehensive analysis of various factors such as heritage protection, visual line analysis and urban morphology, etc. It is also focuses on quantitative approach of height control in outer space of historical heritage from perspective of visual line analysis and so on. It is concluded that under the conditions of adequate focus on the value of urban space, the sudden increase of the height outside the protection areas should be avoided in order to have a more active overall environmental outlook of the city.

O referido trabalho busca fazer uma análise dos impactos ambientais oriundos da construção da via paisagística às margens do Rio Maranguapinho no bairro Canindezinho, ressaltando as transformações geradas pela sua implantação e a modificação do espaço urbano e das formas de ocupação da planície fluvial do rio neste trecho. Para a obtenção de resultados, foi realizado pesquisas bibliográficas e visitas em órgãos públicos para levantamento e obtenção de material digital ou impresso acerca da temática abordada. Efetuou-se a análise de imagens de satélite dos anos de 2010 e 2016 em caráter de comparação das temporalidades quanto as ocupações na Área de Proteção Permanente – APP. Também foram realizadas visitas de campo em pontos do bairro para verificação dos impactos e melhor compreender a realidade do objeto em estudo. Logo, os resultados demonstram que as intervenções realizadas pela via paisagística agregaram outros equipamentos urbanos de infraestrutura e organização espacial, tais como barragens, praças e conjuntos habitacionais, incluindo a qualificação das margens para a recuperação das APPs de aproximadamente 50 metros ao longo do rio, contudo, foram identificados problemas quanto a remoção dos moradores e a utilização das áreas desapropriadas para a acumulação de resíduos sólidos.Palavras-chave: Área de Preservação Permanente. Impacto Ambiental. ABSTRACTThis work seeks to analyze the environmental impacts of the construction of the landscaped road on the banks of the Maranguapinho River in the Canindezinho neighborhood, highlighting the transformations generated by its implantation and the modification of the urban space and the forms of occupation of the fluvial plain of the river in this section . In order to obtain results, bibliographical researches and visits were made to public agencies to collect and obtain digital or printed material about the subject matter. The analysis of satellite images of the years 2010 and 2016 was carried out in a comparison of temporalities and occupations in the Permanent Protection Area (APP). Field visits were also carried out at points in the neighborhood to verify impacts and better understand the reality of the object being studied. Therefore, the results show that the landscape interventions added other urban infrastructure and spatial organization equipment, such as dams, squares and housing complexes, including the qualification of the margins for the recovery of PPAs of approximately 50 meters along the river, however, problems were identified regarding the removal of the residents and the use of the expropriated areas for solid waste accumulation.Keywords: Permanent Preservation Area. Environmental impact. RESUMENEste trabajo busca analizar los impactos ambientales derivados de la construcción de la carretera ajardinada a orillas del río Maranguapinho en el barrio de Canindezinho, destacando las transformaciones generadas por su implementación y la modificación del espacio urbano y las formas de ocupación de la llanura del río en este tramo. . Para obtener resultados, se llevaron a cabo investigaciones bibliográficas y visitas a agencias públicas para recopilar y obtener material digital o impreso sobre el tema. Se analizaron imágenes satelitales de 2010 y 2016 para comparar las temporalidades con respecto a las ocupaciones en el Área de Protección Permanente - APP. También se realizaron visitas de campo en puntos del vecindario para verificar los impactos y comprender mejor la realidad del objeto en estudio. Por lo tanto, los resultados muestran que las intervenciones paisajísticas han agregado otra infraestructura urbana y equipo de organización espacial, como presas, plazas y urbanizaciones, incluida la calificación de márgenes para la recuperación de APP de aproximadamente 50 metros a lo largo del río, sin embargo, se identificaron problemas con respecto a la remoción de residentes y el uso de áreas expropiadas para la acumulación de desechos sólidos.Palabras clave: Área de Preservación Permanente. Having an overall view of the spatial patterns of urban fabrics in a vast metropolitan area is paramount for understanding the emerging spatial organization of the contemporary metropolis. The French Riviera is a polycentric metropolitan area of more than 1200 km2 structured around the old coastal cities of Nice, Cannes, Antibes and Monaco. XIX century and early XX century urban growth is now complemented by modern developments and more recent suburban areas. A large-scale analysis of urban fabrics can only be carried out through a new geoprocessing protocol, combining indicators of spatial relations within urban fabrics, geo-statistical analysis and Bayesian data-mining. Applied to the French Riviera, nine families of urban fabrics are identified and correlated to the historical periods of their production. Central cities are thus characterized by the combination of different families of pre-modern, dense, continuous built-up fabrics, as well as by modern discontinuous forms. More interestingly, fringe-belts in Nice and Cannes, as well as the techno-park of Sophia-Antipolis, combine a spinal cord of connective artificial fabrics having sparse specialized buildings, with the already mentioned discontinuous fabrics of modern urbanism. Further forms are identified in the suburban and “rurban” spaces around central cities. The proposed geoprocessing procedure is not intended to supersede traditional expert-base analysis of urban fabric. Rather, it should be considered as a complementary tool for large urban space analysis and as an input for studying urban form relation to socioeconomic phenomena. This project was developed as an attempt to assess the relationship between different morphogenetic processes, in particular, those of fringe belt formation as described by M.R.G. Conzen (1960) and Whitehand (2001), and of centrality and compactness as described by Hillier (1999; 2002). Different approaches’ focus on different elements of the city has made it difficult to establish exactly how these processes interact or whether they are simply different facets of development reflecting wider socio-economic factors. To address this issue, a visual, chronological timeline of Limassol’s development was constructed along with a narrative of the socio-economic context of its development.  The complexity of cities, however, makes static visualisations across time difficult to read and assess alongside textual narratives. We therefore took the step of developing an animation of land use and configurational analyses of Limassol, in order bring to life the diachronic analysis of the city and shed light on its generative mechanisms. The video presented here shows that the relationship between the processes mentioned above is much stronger and more complex than previously thought. The related paper explores in more detail the links between fringe belt formation as a cyclical process of peripheral development and centrality as a recurring process of minimisation of gains in distance. The project’s outcomes clearly show that composite methods of visualisations are an analytical opportunity still little exploited within urban morphology. References Conzen, M.R.G., 1960. ResumoEste artigo analisa o processo de expansão urbana recente em Altamira – PA, de modo a verificar as novas tendências de crescimento a partir da instalação da usina hidrelétrica de Belo Monte. São utilizados como bases teóricas os conceitos ligados à morfologia urbana e à produção social do espaço urbano. A expansão urbana recente se constitui a partir de fatores articulados ao processo de instalação da usina hidrelétrica, onde se verifica um crescimento acelerado da malha urbana em várias direções, respeitando o sentido das vias estruturantes. Tal crescimento chega a ultrapassar 50% e se dá a partir de novas instalações urbanas para habitação e uso coletivo, públicas e privadas, que alteram o desenho da cidade, sua paisagem e estrutura urbana. Nesse novo cenário, cabe destaque ao papel dos agentes imobiliários e do poder público, bem como da empresa Norte Energia S.A como indutora de processos e agente ordenador do território.Palavras Chave: Expansão urbana, morfologia, Altamira, Belo Monte.  AbstractThis article analyzes the process of recent urban expansion in Altamira, Pará State, in order to check for new growth trends after the implementation of the hydroelectric plant of Belo Monte. The concepts related to urban morphology and social production of urban space are used as theoretical basis to this study. The recent urban expansion is composed by factors related to the hydroelectric plant implementation process, which shows a rapid growth of the urban mesh in several directions, respecting the way of structuring roads. Such growth exceeds 50% and it happens by means of public and private new urban facilities for housing and collective use that alter the design of the city, its landscape and urban infrastructure. In this new scenario, it is highlighted the real estate agents’, government’s, and  Norte Energia corporation’s roles, being the former one considered an originator territory agent and responsible for  inducing this processes.Keywords: urban expansion, morphology, Altamira, Belo Monte.  ResumenEn este artículo se analiza el proceso de reciente expansión urbana en Altamira-PA, con el fin de comprobar si hay nuevas tendencias de crecimiento después de la instalación de la central hidroeléctrica de Belo Monte. Se utilizan como base teórica los conceptos relacionados con la morfología urbana y la producción social del espacio urbano. La reciente expansión urbana se constituye a partir de factores relacionados con el proceso de instalación de la planta hidroeléctrica, donde hay un rápido crecimiento de la red urbana en varias direcciones, respetando el modo de estructuración de las carreteras. Este crecimiento es superior al 50% y se produce a partir de nuevos equipamientos urbanos para viviendas y uso colectivo, públicos y privados, que alteren el diseño de la ciudad, su paisaje y la estructura urbana . <p>Today, with urban function system increasingly complicated, there exist problems which are seriously hindering urban sustainable development in most cities such as traffic jams, constructive destruction, building space separation with traffic space, poor urban space resource utilization and so on. So the article makes a number of integration methods of urban building space and transportation space from the perspective of urban morphology integration. It tries to integrate urban environment with techniques of multidimensional space interludes, cascading, infiltration between building space and traffic space in three-dimensional space coordinates, to achieve the objectives   of proper division, solving traffic congestion problems and the establishment of a new dynamic three-dimensional transport system.</p>

This paper studies the Xi’an City Wall (XCW) as a sustainable historical heritage. Based on the conservation process of XCW, the study is focused on four experiences that drive its sustainable development. First, the opening of gates through XCW helped to maximize its preservation while meeting the needs for urban transportation. Second, transforming XCW into an urban public space facilitated the gradual building of its camp into a city-dominated landscape. Furthermore, integrating social activities into the public space carried by XCW brought people closer to the heritage. Moreover, the use of XCW as the benchmark for the modern Xi’an urban space pattern ensured the continuation of its historical coordinates on the basis. In order to maintain the sustainability of XCW, a future sustainable development plan is put forward according to the Historic Urban Landscape (HUL) approach proposed by UNESCO. This plan has a generalization guiding significance for the future policy formulation of XCW. Findings from this study serve as a reference for the planning and conservation of historical heritage in cities.

This paper focuses on the design strategy of roof gardens, analyzes the relationship between aerial greening from the overall shape of urban space, and discusses the greening spots effect of “stepping stones” in urban greenways. Taking the green corrider between the green space of the Yangtze River wetland and the green space of the Laoshan Mountain as a sample, the roof garden is analyzed as the impact of the stepping stones of the birds on the urban space shape control and height control. Afterwards, it researches the modular technology which can be adapted to building various types of roof gardens.

Santiago de Chile´s areas of growing centrality are currently under residential densification processes, which vary in degrees of intensity and forms of impact in the urban environment. As a result of a weak conduction of residential densification, the structural-radical transformation of the urban fabric has resulted in urban space degradation. However, residential densification is a form of urban growth that, well designed and planned, allows optimizing infrastructures and building a more complex and inclusive city. This work aims to understand to what extent urban morphology shapes these processes of urban transformation in 15 selected areas of 25 hectares; proposing typologies of residential densification based on the intensity of the process and the state of transformation of the urban fabric. Density (dwellings/hectare) is understood in systemic relation with those parameters that determine urban compactness and configure public space: lot subdvision composition, setbacks, building footprint and height, floor area ratio and mixed use index, among others. The impact of intensive densification on urban space would have three main effects: (1) the standardized tower radically fragments the fabric structure and skyline, to the extent multiple and dispersed vertical operations transform lot geometry, abruptly increase building height and lower land occupation; (2) triggers a "residentialization" effect, unbalancing existing diversity of activities and contributing to undermine urban vitality; and (3) impairs the quality of public space, by introducing exogenous typological elements (such as setbacks) and reducing contact between private space and the street.
