SiCp/Al composites were prepared by vacuum hot pressing and sintering method. Optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) is applied to study the diffusion-homogenization process of various elements of powder, and the effect of the diffusion-homogenization temperature and holding time on the SiCp/Al Composites’ microstructure in state of vacuum hot pressing. The results show that the Enrichment of Cu-phase is existed in the composites organization which is in the state of vacuum hot pressing; Al2CuMg fully dissolve into the Al matrix, Cu fully diffused and the diffusion of various elements becomes homogeneous with the temperature increased and time extend. The best processing parameters for the diffusion-homogenization is at 500°Cfor 3h.

In this study, the influence of the addition of rare earth oxides on the phase composition and density of KNN piezoelectric ceramics was investigated. The initial powders of Na2CO3 and K2CO3 were dried at 150 °C for 2 h. Then, a powder mixture for synthesis was prepared by adding a stoichiometric amount of Nb2O5 and 5 and 10 wt % overabundance of Na2CO3. All powders were mixed by ball-milling for 24 h and synthesized at 950 °C. The phase composition of the reaction bed was checked by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD). It had an appearance of tetragonal and monoclinic K0.5Na0.5NbO3 (KNN) phases. Then, 1 and 2 wt % of Er2O3 and Yb2O3, were added to the mixture. Green samples of 25 mm diameter and 3 mm thickness were prepared and sintered by hot pressing at 1000 °C for 2 h under 25 MPa pressure. The final samples were investigated via scanning electron microscopy (SEM)-energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), XRD, Rietveld, and ultrasonic methods. Phase analysis showed tetragonal and orthorhombic KNN phases, and a contamination of (K2CO3·1.5H2O) was present. The obtained KNN polycrystals had a relative density above 95%. Texturing of the material was confirmed as a result of hot pressing.

The Cu-30wt%Ag alloy nanopowders are prepared by induction plasma technology, and the nanopowder is successfully coated by terpineol (C10H18O). The morphology, phase composition and oxidation resistance of nanopowders are characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction and thermogravimetric (TG) analysis. When the suitable processing parameters of induction plasma are chosen, the spherical morphology and average diameter about 89 nm of Cu-30wt%Ag nanopowders are obtained. Meanwhile, the Cu-Ag alloy nanopowders which are coated by terpineol are free from oxidation when temperature is below 280°C.

Bi0.9Pr0.1Fe1-xTixO3 ceramics were prepared by a rapid liquid sintering method. The structure of samples was confirmed by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. Ti substitution leads to some changes in the crystal structure of Bi0.9Pr0.1FeO3, which also significantly affects the dielectric constant and loss.

Manganese zinc pyrophosphate (Mn(2-x)ZnxP2O7 when x = 0.0, 0.5, 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0) ceramics were fabricated by conventionally mixing oxide using the normal sintering method. The samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR), Raman spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The XRD results indicated that synthesized Mn(2-x)ZnxP2O7 systems have a pure monoclinic phase without the presence of phase impurities. The lattice parameters and crystalline sizes analyzed from XRD data were changed depending on the amount of added Zn2+ ion concentration in the Mn2P2O7 structure. The FT-IR and Raman results showed the fundamental vibrations of P2O74-ion and Mn-O or Zn-O, which confirmed the Mn(2-x)ZnxP2O7 formation. In addition, dielectric stability of temperature and frequency was observed in the composition, x = 1.0, with a dielectric constant value of 11.5 at 1 MHz.

The ceramic fibers can be obtained from different techniques. Due to the technological development, searches are performed to improve the existing fibers. Thus, recent studies have enabled the development of an unprecedented synthesis route for the production of nanofibers, the Solution Blow Spinning (SBS). In this context, the present work proposes to develop silica nanofibers doped with silver by the SBS method, evaluating parameters such as: silver content and acidification of solutions. The fibers were characterized by X-ray Diffraction (XRD) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). The results of XRD showed that the samples with 4% silver that were not acidified showed the most defined and intense characteristic peaks. The SEM showed the formation of fibers with diameters in the nanometer range independent of acidification or not of the solutions, with reduction of the agglomerates in the samples with 2% silver.

ABSTRACTHigh quality, transparent diamond films with relatively large deposition areas have been obtained from oxyacetylene combustion flames at the atmospheric pressure using nozzle tilted at an angle φ) with respect to the Mo substrates. These films are studied using scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and Raman spectroscopy. Experimental results show that the surface morphology and microstructure depend strongly on the processing parameters such as the gas mixture ratio of acetylene to oxygen, substrate temperature, and the nozzle angle φ. The uniformity of diamond films have been improved using this tilted combustion flame technique and some problems related with this approach are discussed.

In the present study, Mg x Mn 1–x Fe 2 O 4 series of ferrites with x = 0.1, 0.3, 0.5, 0.7 and 0.9 were prepared by the citrate precursor technique. One set of samples was subjected to normal and the other to hot-pressed technique. Microstructural properties were studied with the help of X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) for both sets of samples. Hot pressing of Mg – Mn ferrites results in an improvement of their magnetic and micro-structural properties, as it simultaneously controls grain growth and porosity. Hot pressing of Mg – Mn ferrites, however, results in deterioration of their dc resistivity. The cation distribution has been studied by X-ray analysis and magnetization. The variation of saturation magnetization and Curie temperature with increasing concentration of Mg 2+ ions can be explained on the basis of cation distribution and Neel two sublattice models. Possible mechanisms, models and theories contributing to these results have been discussed.

ABSTRACTThe effect of simulated body fluid (SBF) on the structure and microstructure of ferrimagnetic bioglass ceramics (FBC) was investigated in series of samples in the system of the oxides [0.45(CaO, P2O5) (0.52-x)SiO2 xFe2O3 0.03Na2O], with X = 0.05, 0.10, 0.15, 0.20. Physical properties of the materials were studied as a function of processing parameters and time of immersion in SBF by x-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) with energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy (EDS). The in vitro experiment showed that bioactivity of the FBC varies with the composition of the oxides, heat treatment, and time of exposure in SBF in a non-systematic way. A surface layer of Si, P, Ca partially covers the Fe, O dendrites, while formation and size of pores is determined by the specific processing parameters of the materials.

ABSTRACTResearch has been carried out to optimize the consolidation stage for the immobilization of pyrochemical wastes with a sodium aluminophosphate glass. The alternative techniques of hot pressing and hot isostatic pressing of the calcined wastes with the glass have been investigated. This has been performed on simulant waste material and the products investigated by scanning electron microscopy and X‑ray diffraction. The consolidation techniques were compared to each other and to the original process for suitability as a waste-form.

Calcium is an important element in the growth and development of plants and one form of calcium is calcium oxalate. Calcium oxalate has been found in leaf seed, stem material plant tissue culture, fungi and lichen using one or more of the following methods—polarized light microscopy (PLM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and x-ray diffraction. Two methods are presented here for qualitatively estimating calcium oxalate in dried or fixed tobacco (Nicotiana) leaf from different stalk positions using PLM. SEM, coupled with energy dispersive x-ray spectrometry (EDS), and powder x-ray diffraction were used to verify that the crystals observed in the dried leaf with PLM were calcium oxalate.
