In the quantitative analysis of metallographic organization, the grain size is a fundamental parameter. The traditional methods of getting the grain size depend on artificiality. These means have strong subjectivity and low efficiency. In this paper, a new digital image processing technology method is proposed for the measurement of the grain size. The experiment with the 7050 Al-alloy samples show that the proposed algorithm has performed well compared with the artificial methods.

Abstract The article presents an algorithm for digital image processing of astronomical objects in order to effectively determine the position of these objects. The proposed method has been optimized due to its effectiveness of removing noise and distortion caused by atmospheric turbulence and imperfections in long exposure photography of astronomical objects. This solution is ready for implementation in a system for automatic identification of stars in the recorded images. Such a system is designed for GoTo circuits at telescope’s drives, which can automatically point a telescope to astronomical objects. The method was verified by simulation in MATLAB program on real images of astronomical objects.

The harm of stored product pests are very serious, which caused huge losses to the national economy. It is important to strengthen the research on the insects, for the protection of reservoir storage and quarantine. In the recognition of stored product insects, Some insects have anabiosis, once it is missed, if the external environment is favorable, it will flourish and spread, there will be great harm to the storage of food. This paper briefly introduces the basic principle of the near infrared spectroscopy technology combined with the basic principle of digital image processing and recognition technology. The basic principle of automatic identification technology of dead and live insects, it is based on the difference of absorption and reflection of near-infrared light for the identification of insect pests. This paper presents a new idea of research on near infrared spectroscopy technology and digital image processing technology for automatic identification of direction in the dead and live insects.

The growing demand for light weight materials for the application in the aircraft industries, aerospace industries, marine, sports and recreation industries has attracted the usage of fiber reinforced materials especially GFRP composites. Usage of these kind of materials are exponentially increasing because of its specific engineering characteristics like high strength to weight ratio. Drilling of these materials has been always a challenge because of its heterogeneous nature. Better hole quality is required for these materials for the assembly into components. In this work delamination analysis was attempted using digital image processing, experiments are carried out for 27 holes using full factorial design and it was observed that scanned images obtained using a flat bed scanner (HP, 1300 DPI) used for digital image processing, gives better visualization for delamination. The feed rate is the most influencing parameter out of the three process input parameters considered.

ABSTRACTConsiderable attention has been recently paid to improving replicability and reproducibility in life science research. This has resulted in commendable efforts to standardize a variety of reagents, assays, cell lines and other resources. However, given that microscopy is a dominant tool for biologists, comparatively little discussion has been offered regarding how the proper reporting and documentation of microscopy relevant details should be handled. Image processing is a critical step of almost any microscopy-based experiment; however, improper, or incomplete reporting of its use in the literature is pervasive. The chosen details of an image processing workflow can dramatically determine the outcome of subsequent analyses, and indeed, the overall conclusions of a study. This Review aims to illustrate how proper reporting of image processing methodology improves scientific reproducibility and strengthens the biological conclusions derived from the results.

This paper presented a visible measurement method of dispersion spot at a four-quadrant detector based on digital image processing according to the problem of big measurement error and low efficiency in the existing production process used by the indirect measurement method of dispersion spot based on four-quadrant detector output signal. This method designed a visible measurement optical system and established a visible measurement mathematical model of four-quadrant detector dispersion spot, obtained the four-quadrant detector photosensitive surface and dispersion spot geometrical coordinates and size through digital image processing for the four-quadrant detector photosensitive surface and the dispersion spot, then got the adjustive parameter of out-of-focus distance automatically. The results of the experiment show that this method is intuitive and simple, measurement accuracy is improved from 0.02mm to 0.004mm and the measurement time is reduced from 15 minutes to 2 minutes.
