TiNbTaZr alloy is potential medical biomaterials, due to its high strength, low elastic modulus, superelasticity, superplasticity, and many other excellent performances. TiNbTaZr rolling samples under solid solution state and deformation state were characterized by TEM and XRD technologies. The results show that the alloy has the grain size of 42mm, straight of grain boundaries, intragranular no significant defects after solution heat treatment at 1063K. When the deformation reaches 40% in the rolling process, the local zones in intragranular appears high density of dislocations and a small amount of twinning. When the rolling is to 92%, the high density of dislocation cells forms nano subgrain block in sample with {100} plate texture and the texture axis of {100} plate under density of 2.29.

Aluminum-lithium alloys have been recently got strong interests especially in the aircraft industry. Compared to conventional high strength aluminum alloys of the 2000 or 7000 series it is anticipated that these alloys offer a 10% increase in the stiffness and a 10% decrease in density, thus making them rather competitive to new up-coming non-metallic materials like carbon fiber reinforced composites. The object of the present paper is to evaluate the inluence of various microstructural features on the monotonic and cyclic deformation and fracture behaviors of Al-Li based alloy. The material used was 8090 alloy. After solution treated and waster quenched, the alloy was underaged (190°Clh), peak-aged (190°C24h) and overaged (150°C4h+230°C16h). The alloy in different aging condition was tensile and fatigue tested, the resultant fractures were observed in SEM. The deformation behavior was studied in TEM.

A high strength recycled newspaper (NP)/high density polyethylene (HDPE) laminated composite was developed using NP laminas as reinforcement and HDPE film as matrix. Herein, NP fiber was modified with stearic acid (SA) to enhance the water resistance of the NP laminas and NP/HDPE composite. The effects of heat treatment and SA concentration on the water resistance and tensile property of NP and composite samples were investigated. The chemical structure of the NP was characterized with X-ray diffractometer, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and attenuated total reflectance Fourier transform infrared spectra techniques. The surface and microstructure of the NP sheets were observed by scanning electron microscopy. An expected high-water resistance of NP sheets was achieved due to a chemical bonding that low surface energy SA were grafted onto the modified NP fibers. Results showed that the hydrophobicity of NP increased with increasing the stearic acid concentration. The water resistance of the composite laminates was depended on the hydrophobicity of the NP sheets. The lowest value of 2 h water absorption rate (3.3% ± 0.3%) and thickness swelling rate (2.2% ± 0.4%) of composite were obtained when the SA concentration was 0.15 M. In addition, the introduction of SA can not only enhance the water resistance of the composite laminates, but also reduce the loss of tensile strength in wet conditions, which shows potential in outdoor applications.

The influence of rare earth Ce on the deep stamping property of high-strength interstitial-free (IF) steel containing phosphorus was analyzed. After adding 120 kg ferrocerium alloy (Ce content is 10%) in the steel, the inclusion statistics and the two-dimensional morphology of the samples in the direction of 1/4 thickness of slab and each rolling process were observed and compared by scanning electron microscope (SEM). After the samples in each rolling process were treated by acid leaching, the three-dimensional morphology and components of the second phase precipitates were observed by SEM and energy dispersive spectrometer (EDS). The microstructure of the sample was observed by optical microscope, and the grain size was compared. Meanwhile, the content and strength of the favorable texture were analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD). Finally, the mechanical properties of the product were analyzed. The results showed that: (1) The combination of rare earth Ce with activity O and S in steel had lower Gibbs free energy, and it was easy to generate CeAlO3, Ce2O2S, and Ce2O3. The inclusions size was obviously reduced, but the number of inclusions was increased after adding rare earth. The morphology of inclusions changed from chain and strip to spherical. The size of rare earth inclusions was mostly about 2–5 μm, distributed and dispersed, and their elastic modulus was close to that of steel matrix, which was conducive to improving the structure continuity of steel. (2) The rare earth compound had a high melting point. As a heterogeneous nucleation point, the nucleation rate was increased and the solidification structure was refined. The grade of grain size of products was increased by 1.5 grades, which is helpful to improve the strength and plasticity of metal. (3) Rare earth Ce can inhibit the segregation of P element at the grain boundary and the precipitation of Fe(Nb+Ti)P phase. It can effectively increase the solid solution amount of P element in steel, improve the solid solution strengthening effect of P element in high-strength IF steel, and obtain a large proportion of {111} favorable texture, which is conducive to improving the stamping formability index r90 value.

The application of vanadium-nitrogen alloy to develop a certain low carbon high strength H-beam steel was determined through the combination of theoretical study, product requirements and existing practical conditions. The specific rolling process was further defined through laboratory experiments. The developed low carbon high strength H-beam steel was trial produced and its properties were also analyzed. The results showed that the newly developed low carbon high strength H-beam steel had excellent mechanical properties and good weldability.
