The supercritical and subcritical CO2 fluids are both new technologies having good industrial applications such as cleaning with the advantages of no residue, recyclability and so on. The technology of ultrasound coupled with them can enhance the dissolution and improve the mass transfer. However, there is a lack of in-depth study of its mechanism. The reasonable mechanism analysis of enhancement is stated in this paper. A new model is proposed that can simulate the dynamics of cavitation bubbles in the subcritical CO2 fluid based on the Rayleigh-Plesset equation. The effects of different parameter conditions on the dynamics of cavitation bubbles have been discussed and ideal parameter conditions which are beneficial to the dissolution are also listed from the dynamical simulation results.

Abstract This paper presents a comprehensive review of the remarkable achievements by Chinese scientists and engineers who have contributed to the multiscale process design, with emphasis on the transport mechanisms in stirred reactors, extractors, and rectification columns. After a brief review of the classical theory of transport phenomena, this paper summarizes the domestic developments regarding the relevant experiments and numerical techniques for the interphase mass transfer on the drop/bubble scale and the micromixing in the single-phase or multiphase stirred tanks in China. To improve the design and scale-up of liquid-liquid extraction columns, new measurement techniques with the combination of both particle image velocimetry and computational fluid dynamics have been developed and advanced modeling methods have been used to determine the axial mixing and mass transfer performance in extraction columns. Detailed investigations on the mass transfer process in distillation columns are also summarized. The numerical and experimental approaches modeling transport phenomena at the vicinity of the vapor-liquid interface, the point efficiency for trays/packings regarding the mixing behavior of fluids, and the computational mass transfer approach for the simulation of distillation columns are thoroughly analyzed. Recent industrial applications of mathematical models, numerical simulation, and experimental methods for the design and analysis of multiphase stirred reactors/crystallizers, extractors, and distillation columns are seen to garnish economic benefits. The current problems and future prospects are pinpointed at last.

The engine model with 4 cylinders is built by SolidWorks, the kinematics and dynamics simulations of the engine virtual prototype are done by COSMOSMotion, the results of kinematics simulation are checked, there are very small errors between the simulation results and the calculation results according to formulas. The mainly results of dynamics simulation are given. The simulation result consists with the parameters of the engine.

The thixo-forging of magnesium matrix composite was analyzed with computer numerical simulation based on rigid viscoplastic finite element method. The constitutive model of SiCp/AZ61 composite was established in our prior literature. Behavior of metal flow and temperature field were obtained. The differences between traditional forging and thixo-forging processes were analyzed. Results indicated that thixo-forging was better in filling cavity than forging. Simulation results were good agreement with experimental ones.

Various rider models have been proposed that provide control inputs for the simulation of motorcycle dynamics. However, those models are mostly used to simulate production motorcycles, so they assume that all motions are in the linear region such as those in a constant radius turn. As such, their performance is insufficient for simulating racing motorcycles that experience quick acceleration and braking. Therefore, this study proposes a new rider model for racing simulation that incorporates Nonlinear Model Predictive Control. In developing this model, it was built on the premise that it can cope with running conditions that lose contact with the front wheels or rear wheels so-called "endo" and "wheelie", which often occur during running with large acceleration or deceleration assuming a race. For the control inputs to the vehicle, we incorporated the lateral shift of the rider's center of gravity in addition to the normally used inputs such as the steering angle, throttle position, and braking force. We compared the performance of the new model with that of the conventional model under constant radius cornering and straight braking, as well as complex braking and acceleration in a single (hairpin) corner that represented a racing run. The results showed that the new rider model outperformed the conventional model, especially in the wider range of running speed usable for a simulation. In addition, we compared the simulation results for complex braking and acceleration in a single hairpin corner produced by the new model with data from an actual race and verified that the new model was able to accurately simulate the run of actual MotoGP riders.

Abstract This article proposes a method for analyzing the gravity balancing reliability of spring-articulated serial robots with uncertainties. Gravity balancing reliability is defined as the probability that the torque reduction ratio (the ratio of the balanced torque to the unbalanced torque) is less than a specified threshold. The reliability analysis is performed by exploiting a Monte Carlo simulation (MCS) with consideration of the uncertainties in the link dimensions, masses, and compliance parameters. The gravity balancing begins with a simulation-based analysis of the gravitational torques of a typical serial robot. Based on the simulation results, a gravity balancing design for the robot using mechanical springs is realized. A reliability-based design optimization (RBDO) method is also developed to seek a reliable and robust design for maximized balancing performance under a prescribed uncertainty level. The RBDO is formulated with consideration of a probabilistic reliability constraint and solved by using a particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm. A numerical example is provided to illustrate the gravity balancing performance and reliability of a robot with uncertainties. A sensitivity analysis of the balancing design is also performed. Lastly, the effectiveness of the RBDO method is demonstrated through a case study in which the balancing performance and reliability of a robot with uncertainties are improved with the proposed method.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to provide a T autotransformer based 12-pulse rectifier with passive harmonic reduction in more electric aircraft applications. The T autotransformer uses only two main windings which result in volume, space, size, weight and cost savings. Also, the proposed unconventional inter-phase transformer (UIPT) with a lower kVA rating (about 2.6% of the load power) compared to the conventional inter-phase transformer results in a more harmonic reduction. Design/methodology/approach To increase rating and reduce the cost and complexity of a multi-pulse rectifier, it is well known that the pulse number must be increased. In some practical cases, a 12-pulse rectifier (12PR) is suggested as a good solution considering its simple structure and low weight. But the 12PR cannot technically meet the standards of harmonic distortion requirements for some industrial applications, and therefore, they must be used with output filters. In this paper, a 12PR is suggested, which consists of a T autotransformer 12PR and a passive harmonic reduction (PHR) based on the UIPT at direct current (DC) link. Findings To show the advantage of this new combination over other solutions, simulation results are used, and then, a prototype is implemented to evaluate and verify the simulation results. The simulation and experimental test results show that the input current total harmonic distortion (THD) of the suggested 12PR with a PHR based on UIPT is less than 5%, which meets the IEEE 519 requirements. Also, it is shown that in comparison with other solutions, it is cost effective, and at the same time, its power factor is near unity, and its rating is 29.92% of the load rating. Therefore, it is obvious that the proposed rectifier is a practical solution for more electric aircrafts. Originality/value The contributions of this paper are summarized as follows. The suggested design uses a retrofit T autotransformer, which meets all technical constraints, and in comparison, with other options, has less rating, weight, volume and cost. In the suggested rectifier, a PHR based on UIPT at its dc link of 12PR is used, which has good technical capabilities and lower ratings. In the PHR based on UIPT, an IPT is used, which has an additional secondary winding and four diodes. This solution leads to a reduction in input current THD and conduction losses of diodes. In full load conditions, the input line current THD and power factor are 4% and 0.99, respectively. The THD is less than 5%, which satisfies IEEE-519 and DO-160G requirements.

The use of innovative and sophisticated malware definitions poses a serious threat to computer-based information systems. Such malware is adaptive to the existing security solutions and often works without detection. Once malware completes its malicious activity, it self-destructs and leaves no obvious signature for detection and forensic purposes. The detection of such sophisticated malware is very challenging and a non-trivial task because of the malware’s new patterns of exploiting vulnerabilities. Any security solutions require an equal level of sophistication to counter such attacks. In this paper, a novel reinforcement model based on Monte-Carlo simulation called eRBCM is explored to develop a security solution that can detect new and sophisticated network malware definitions. The new model is trained on several kinds of malware and can generalize the malware detection functionality. The model is evaluated using a benchmark set of malware. The results prove that eRBCM can identify a variety of malware with immense accuracy.

The paper presents the experimental results of a pneumatic actuator controlled by a proportional control valve. The goal of the paper is to compare the experimental results with the numerical simulation results and to improve the mathematical model associated with the experiment.

Cowpea (Vigna unguiculata) is among the pulse’s species of greatest economic and social importance. This legume is strategic for the food security and health of millions of people in the world. Cowpea is rich in nutraceuticals compounds such as dietary fibre, antioxidants and polyunsaturated fatty acids and polyphenols, whose health benefits and use in the food industry have been extensively studied. However, research on the identification of functional proteins from cowpea, their metabolic functions and applications in the food, health and other industries are still scarce. In this chapter, a critical review of the most recent and important research about functional cowpea proteins. We objective was identify and systematize information about the nature and functions of these proteins, as well as their use and applications in food, health and other industries. Cowpea seed proteins are highly versatile and offer direct health benefits such as reducing the incidence of cardiovascular disease and some types of cancer. The proteins of cowpea are also used in material science for the development of new technologies such as development of special fabrics for protection against ultraviolet rays and microencapsulation of ascorbic acid.
