Nano kaolin is product from kaolin also known as white clay. Kaolin was established as supplementary cementitious materials in concrete. The inclusion of kaolin in concrete enhances strength and durability properties and prolongs concrete life span. In this research, nanokaolin will be develop by using sol gel technique by that involves high energy milling. The process of milling been influenced by time of milling, ball and jar type. Ceramic type Zirconia (Zi) is been used as jar and ball type in this process. Time of milling was set from four (4) hours and one (1) days. Sample will be analyse by using particle size analyser to see the particle size and surface area of kaolin. From the result shows the optimum milling period for nanokaolin is one day base on particle size compare to 4 hours. Furthermore, one day milling produces a massive increment of surface area compare to others. In conclusion, one day can be considered as the optimum cycle time in the production of nano kaolin.

A series of Bi-doped BixLa1-xAlO3 (x=0.0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4) powders have been prepared by sol-gel method at 800°C. The influences of Bi doping content on phase, morphology, particle size, surface area, infrared absorption spectrum are discussed. XRD results show that there is no second phase in powders when x≤0.3, however, there exist impure phases when x≥0.4. The SEM analysis indicates the particle size of powder is 50-150nm. The specific surface area is 5-13 m2/g.

The present research was conducted to synthesis Y-Zeolite by sol-gel technique using MWCNT (multiwalled carbon nanotubes) as crystallization medium to get a narrow range of particle size distribution with small average size compared with ordinary methods. The phase pattern, chemical structure, particle size, and surface area were detected by XRD, FTIR, BET and AFM, respectively. Results shown that the average size of Zeolite with and without using MWCNT were (92.39) nm and (55.17) nm respectively .Particle size range reduced from (150-55) nm to (130-30) nm. The surface area enhanced to be (558) m2/g with slightly large pore volume (0.231) km3/g was obtained. Meanwhile, degree of crystallization decreased to 120%.

Cement industry consumes high energy and produces major emissions to the environment. In order to reduce the effects (environmental impact, energy, and resources) caused by conventional materials, various by-products and pozzolonic material are used to achieve sustainable concrete. Assessing the concrete performance based on multiple conflicting attributes is decisive and compelling. It is difficult to choose an alternative among the Supplementary Cementitious Materials (SCM) considering a set of quantitative performance attributes. Hence, the present study utilizes the theories of decision making to prioritize an alternative environmentally and technologically. The purpose of the present study is to observe the sustainable performance of five different concretes made of OPC, Fly ash, GGBS, Metakaolin and Composite Cement for a particular grade of concrete. The study has considered workability, strength attribute (compressive strength, split tensile and flexural strength) and durability attribute (Sorptivity and RCPT) at their respective optimum replacements. To prioritize an alternative material considering quantitative attributes, Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) is utilized. From the results, it is observed that considering all attributes, flyash based concrete has higher performance and is prioritized among others. The developed approach facilitates the decision-makers in the selection of a sustainable alternative.

In this present study, the spherical silica support was synthesized from tetraethyloxysilane (TEOS), water, sodium hydroxide, ethylene glycol and n-dodecyltrimethyl ammonium bromide (C12TMABr). The particle size was controlled by variation of the ethylene glycol co-solvent weight ratio of a sol-gel method preparation in the range of 0.10 to 0.50. In addition, the particle size apparently increases with high weight ratio of co-solvent, but the particle size distribution was broader. The standard deviation of particle diameter is large when the co-solvent weight ratio is more than 0.35 and less than 0.15. However, the specific surface area was similar for all weight ratios ranging from 1000 to 1300 m2/g. The synthesized silica was spherical and has high specific surface area. The cobalt was impregnated onto the obtained silica to produce the cobalt catalyst used for CO2 hydrogenation.</

The life of the concrete is strongly influenced by durability parameters. The permeability is one of the main characteristics influencing the durability of concrete. The concrete is more permeable due to the ingress of water, oxygen, chloride, sulphate, and other potential deleterious substances. The durability of concrete is mainly affected by pore structure system of concrete and addingthe supplementary cementitious materials (SCM), such as fly ash, slag cement, and silica fume can be decrease permeability. Crystalline technology enhances the strength of concrete by filling the poresand micro-cracks with non-dissolvable substances. To study the efficiency of crystalline formation in concrete in terms of more permeable should be guaranteed through a specific technique. The effectiveness of crystalline waterproofing system with partial replacement cement by GGBS is studiedin terms of strength and durability. The performance of the two different types of crystalline waterproofing integral admixtures has been studied for compressive strength, Split tensile strength, workability, water permeability, Rapid chloride permeability test and porosity in this paper. The early strength increased in GGBS with crystalline admixture concretes compare to the control concrete. No significant strength reduction is observed in GGBS concretes with crystalline admixture when replaced with 20% and 40% of cement than control concrete.

In this study, we have characterized the effects of abrasive properties, primarily particle size, on the Chemical Mechanical Polishing (CMP) of oxide films. Sol-gel silica particles with very narrow size distributions were used for preparing the polishing slurries. The results indicate that as particle size increases, there is a transition in the mechanism of material removal from a surface area based mechanism to an indentation-based mechanism. In addition, the surface morphology of the polished samples was characterized, with the results showing that particles larger than 0.5 μm are detrimental to the quality of the SiO2 surface.

The worldwide production of cement is growing every year due to its increased use in the construction. Cement production is affiliated with an environmental concern as it contributes to the CO2 emissions. It is imperative to reduce the cement production by incorporating supplementary cementitious materials in the cement composites. In this research study, wheat straw ash (WSA) was used as an alternate of ordinary Portland cement. The ash was ground separately with a ball mill and a disintegrator mill as well as with a combination of both to enhance its pozzolanic efficiency. Mortar and paste specimens were made by substituting cement with WSA (20% by weight). Ash specimens were examined in terms of particle size distribution, X-ray diffraction, and X-ray fluorescence analyses. The performance of the ash specimens in cement composites was examined via compressive and flexural strengths, and ultrasonic pulse velocity (UPV) tests. Isothermal calorimetric, thermogravimetric analyses (TGA), mercury intrusion porosimetry (MIP), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were also employed on the specimens. The results revealed that the particle size of the wheat straw ash specimens significantly reduced and specific surface area enhanced when ground with a combination of both milling techniques. Cement composites made with this type of ash demonstrated improved mechanical and physical properties, accelerated hydration reaction at the early ages, reduce calcium hydroxide content at the later ages, and densified microstructure.
