To investigate pinholes in 8079 Aluminum foil, optical microscopy and scanning electron microscope with energy dispersive spectrometer were adopted. Results show that four types of pinholes in 8079 aluminum foil, (1) small size, rod-shaped, (2) pinhole in groove, (3) hole with big size, (4) crumpled pinholes. Big compounds along with all rolling and heat treatment processes cause the small rod-shaped pinhole. The big compound contains elements of Al-Fe-O.

AbstractThe paper presents results of calorimetric investigation of the Bi-Cu-Sn system by means of differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) at the temperature interval 25-1250∘C, Values of liquidus, solidus and invariant reactions temperatures, as well as melting enthalpies of the selected alloys were determined. Microstructure investigation of the alloys were performed by the use of a scanning electron microscope (SEM) equipped with an energy-dispersive spectrometer (EDS).

The effects of Cerium (Ce) were studied on the casting slab quality, microstructure, and inclusion evolution of cryogenic vessel steel. An optical metallographic microscope, scanning electron microscope, energy dispersive spectrometer, and Thermo-calc thermodynamic software were used for characterization and analysis. The results indicated that the central segregation was significantly improved after adding Ce and reached the lowest level when the content of Ce was 0.0009 wt.%. Meanwhile, the presence of Ce reduces the size of ferrite and improves pearlite morphology. Ce also enables the modification of Al2O3 and MnS + Ti4C2S2 inclusions into ellipsoid CeAlO3 and spherical Ce2O2S + Ti4C2S2 composite inclusions, respectively, which are easier to remove. The formed Ce2O2S inclusions are fine and can work as heterogeneous nucleation points to refine the microstructure of steel.

One conventional domed slotted rupture disc, which was fabricated with Inconel 600 alloy, was used in reaction kettle. It was burst after only 2000 times of operational circles. The burst causes were investigated. Morphologies of the fracture were observed by scanning electron microscope and the relatively chemical compositions were analyzed by energy dispersive spectrometer. Meanwhile, metallographic microstructures were also observed and analyzed for the material of the failure of the rupture disc. The results show that the bursting of the rupture disc was caused by fatigue fracture.

This study has been conducted to determine and identify the metal elements of dates syrup extracted from Khstawy, Zehdy and Shukary using Scanning electron microscope-Energy dispersive Spectrometer (SEM-EDS) technique. The results showed that dates syrup was rich in both metal and non- metals elements. The obtained results showed some different trends in the date syrup content of mineral elements. The results showed the availability of Carbon (C) element in dates syrup extracted via hydraulic pressure from Khstawy (80.73%), Zehdy (65.28 %) and Shukary (68.49%) varieties while in dates syrup produced thermally (80.59%) and dates syrup produced without thermal (72.16%). Oxygen (O) ratio in Khstawy, Zehdy, Shukary, dates syrup produced thermally, and dates syrup produced without thermal were 18.92, 35.27, 15.26, 19.09 and 27.46 respectively. Moreover, the results showed the availability of sodium (Na) (0.17 %), sulphur (S) (0.11 %), potassium (K) (0.05%), silicon (Si) (0.03%) in the dates syrup extracted from Khstawy, while in Zehdy variety there was Aluminum (Al) (0.33%), potassium (K) (0.08%), chloride (Cl) (0.03%), magnesium (Mg) (0.01%). In Shukary variety, Al (5.24%), K (0.05%), nitrogen (N) (10.73%), (S) (0.06%), copper (Cu) (0.18%). Additionally, the results showed that the quantity of metal elements available in dates syrup produced thermally were found as follow as follows: Na (0.22%), S (0.1%) as well as O and C. Yet, the number of the metal elements in the dates syrup produced by hydraulic pressure was more that the dates syrup produced thermally are as follows: Na (0.1%), Al (0.1%), K (0.1%), S (0.02%), Si (0.03%) and phosphor (P) (0.02%).

Volumes of 10(-10) liter of sweat, saliva, and urine were analyzed with an energy-dispersive spectrometer (EDS) X-ray analyzer on a standard scanning electron microscope (SEM). Results of the EDS analysis of diluted and undiluted samples were verified by comparison with results of analyses of the same sample prepared by conventional quantitative methods. Except for Cl in concentrated urines and Mg in low concentrations, good agreement was found between the methods. The analysis provides quantitation of most elements of biological interest present in concentrations of about 1 mM, while it demonstrates good linearity (r greater than 0.99) throughout a wide range of commonly encountered biological concentrations. Reproducibility of the analysis is on the order of 2% and the minimal determinable concentration is generally between 0.5 and 1.0 mM for S, P, K, and Ca and slightly more than 1.0 mM for Mg.
