CdSe Quantum Dots (QDs) sensitized TiO2 photocatylysts were synthesized by a facile sol-gel method at room temperature. The effects of CdSe QDs concentration on the properties of the photocatalysts were studied by XRD, BET, SEM, UV/vis. The photocatalytic performance was investigated by degrading methylene blue (MB) under halogen-tungsten lamp irradiation. The results revealed that the catalysts doped with CdSe QDs show large surface area, small crystal size and narrow band gap. The catalysts doped with 0.05% CdSe QDs possessed the best activity, and the degradation efficiency of methylene blue (MB) is up to 99.2% within 180 min.

In this paper, we synthesized the CdSe quantum dots (QDs) about 4.5 nm, and using the in-situ XAFS technique to study the thermal expansion of CdSe QDs from room temperature to 700°C. We find that the thermal expansion of the CdSe QDs is about 2.0×10-5/K, which is bigger than the bulk CdSe (3~8×10-6/K). This can demonstrate that the thermal properties of CdSe QDs is related to the size of the dots, which means the thermal expansion is reducing as the size of the nanoparticles increasing. We have investigated the effect of water (H2O) cooling and heat treatment on the luminescence efficiency of core CdSe quantum dots (QDs). The photoluminescence (PL) quantum yield of the CdSe QDs was enhanced up to ~85%, and some periodic bright points were observed in wide color ranges during the heat treatment of QDs mixed with H2O. The PL enhancement of QDs could be attributed to the recovery of QDs surface traps by unreacted ligands confined within the hydrophilic H2O molecule containers.

ZnO-SiO2/Laponite was prepared by sol-gel preparation procedure consit of SiO2 pillarization to laponite followed by ZnO dispersion by using zinc acetate as precursor. The obtained material was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive spectrometry (EDS), diffuse reflectance UV-Visible (DRUV-Vis) and N2 adsorption-desorption analysis. The photocatalytic performance of the amterial in methylene blue decolorization was also investigated. Compared with ZnO-SiO2 nanoparticles, it is concluded that ZnO-SiO2/Laponite possess higher photocatalytic activity which obey Temkin isotherm model.
