Introducing the particle damping technology into the gear transmission will effectively reduce the vibration during gear engagement, especially suitable for high temperature, oil-lubricating environment for the gear transmission system. In the real working situation, centrifugal load will make the particle at one end away from the rotation center. The vibration suppression of particle damping in the gear transmission is studied through experimental method. The effect of rotation speed and particle filling rate on vibration suppression of particle damping is analyzed in gear transmission. The result will provide exact theory basis and design principle for the vibration suppression of gear transmission.

Particle damping is a passive vibration control technology. At the present stage, particle damping technology is developing especially in machinery and aerospace fields. For studying the particle damping effect different parameters such as particle material, size and filling percentage is used. One of the applications for particle damping phenomenon is gear transmission system. For simulation of particle damping discrete element method (DEM) software is used. The simulation results have been validated by comparing with experimental results of a physical system. Find damping effect due to particle damping from simulation and experimentation.

Gear transmission system plays an important role in many of the mechanical systems. Vibration is the major problem and unavoidable in gear transmission system because high speed and heavy loading condition. High temperature and harsh working condition limits the other vibration absorption methods. Particle friction & impact damping is passive method of vibration absorption. Ordinary particle damping method gives the random movement of particles. In this research holes are provided to the gear and put cylindrical impact particles in particular hole gives the friction and impact effect to absorb the vibration. The mathematical analysis is formulated for the system also run MATLAB program and found out plot for displacement v/s time. DEM simulation carried out using EDEM software which is used to perform simulations at different speed and to analyze the energy dissipation during particle collisions and compared the energy absorbed by the particles of different materials for varying speed.

The star herringbone gear transmission system has a high load-carrying capacity, and is widely used in aviation, marine power drives, off-road vehicles, and hybrid electric-drive vehicles. Vibration and noise are the key concerns with this transmission system. The lumped mass method was adopted to establish the dynamic model and equations of this system. The modes of the system were analyzed and classified, and the eigenvalues and their multiplicities were determined. The results showed that the system has four typical vibration modes: (1) a lateral-rotational coupled vibration mode (multiplicity m = 1), (2) star gear compound mode (multiplicity m =  N-3, N > 3), (3) center component lateral vibration mode (multiplicity m = 2), and (4) star gear and center gear-coupled mode (multiplicity m = 2). The contribution of this paper lies in the discovery of the coupling vibration modes in the star herringbone gear transmission system and the multiplicities of these modes. This work provides the foundation for further research on vibration suppression for the star herringbone gear transmission system and the theory of planet phasing.

According to the working characteristics of a 1.5 MW wind turbine planetary gear system under complex and random wind load, a two-parameter Weibull distribution model is used to describe the distribution of random wind speed, and the time-varying load caused by random wind speed is obtained. The nonlinear dynamic model of planetary gear transmission system is established by using the lumped parameter method, and the relative relations among various components are derived by using Lagrange method. Then, the relative relationship between the components is solved by Runge Kutta method. Considering the influence of random load and stiffness ratio on the planetary gear transmission system, the nonlinear dynamic response of cyclic load and random wind load on the transmission system is analyzed. The analysis results show that the variation of the stiffness ratio makes the planetary gear have abundant nonlinear dynamics behavior and the planetary gear can get rid of chaos and enter into stable periodic motion by changing the stiffness ratio properly on the premise of ensuring transmission efficiency. For the variable pitch wind turbine, the random change of external load increases the instability of the system.

Gear profile modification is an important method for reducing system vibration and noise of a gear transmission. In this paper, three kinds of gear profile modification curves are studied, and relevant experiments are conducted. Some useful conclusions based on the theoretical analysis and experimental results have been obtained. Line, parabola and sinusoid modification curves are very useful in improving the dynamic performance of a gear transmission system by reducing system vibration and noise. In order to design the optimal tooth profile modification curve, the curve type must be decided firstly according to the specific working condition, and the curve parameters can be determined by means of optimum programming.

AbstractIn order to study the different backlash, gear damping ratio and random disturbance on dynamic behavior of gear transmission system, stochastic dynamic equations of the three-degree-of-freedom spur gear transmission system are established considering random disturbances of a low-frequency external excitation induced by torque fluctuation, gear damping ratio, gear backlash, excitation frequency and meshing stiffness. Using bifurcation diagram, phase diagram, time course diagram, Poincaré map and power spectrum of the system, the dynamic characteristics of the gear transmission system with different backlash under gear damping ratio changing, and the influence of the random disturbance of gear damping ratio on the bifurcation characteristic of system are analyzed. Numerical simulation shows that the gear transmission system will be from periodic motion with a noisy disturbance to chaotic-like motion by period-doubling bifurcation with decreasing gear damping ratio. In the small damping ratio range, the backlash has great effect on the motion characteristics. Random disturbance has an important effect on the bifurcation characteristics.
