The development and utilization of underground space is an effective way to solve the shortage of urban space capacity. It is also an inevitable choice for the sustainable development of urban underground space. The development and utilization of underground space in small and medium-sized cities in China started relatively late and lacked practical basis. This paper selects three representative small and medium-sized cities in east China to study the status quo, contents and achievements of underground space development and utilization, makes a comparative analysis, and puts forward the overall characteristics of underground space development and utilization in small and medium-sized cities, hoping to provide reference for the development and utilization of underground space in small and medium-sized cities in the future.

The sustainable development of most tourism areas is accompanied with ever-increasing recreational pressure and the ever¬growing threat of depletion of their natural and recreational resources. All efforts at strategic planning or long-term forecasting may be baffled if there is insufficient understanding of where the risks are coming from and what impact they may have on the environment. It is of utmost significance for tourism areas to keep track of all risks attendant upon their path to sustainable development, which is about achieving balanced recreational pressure and a number of positive socio-economic effects. On balance, there is a need to identify the entire set of risks that may face an area as a result of tourism activity in it. This paper explores some of the key threats to the sustainable development of tourism areas, identifies some of the key risks inherent to the process, and proposes a method for rank-ordering the risks based on their gravity.

The urban environment is a networked metabolic organism. The urban environment includes networks that feed it with energy, resources, people, goods and information. The urban environment carries out a permanent transformation of matter, energy and produces waste, which together change the urban environment. We have proposed to use an indicator for assessing the efficiency of the metabolism of the urban environment, which allows to take into account the relationship between the urban structure, energy consumption, emissions of pollutants and the intensity of consumption of natural resources. We use this indicator as a tool for forecasting sustainable urban development. Using the example of Poltava city, we have shown that the indicator for assessing the metabolic efficiency of the urban environment can be used as one of the decision-making tools for the sustainable development of Ukrainian cities. The improvement of existing and development of new indicators is an important task towards the implementation of the concept of sustainable development, which is a logical continuation of the teachings of V. I. Vernadsky on the noosphere.

Based on the designed evaluation index system of the Inner Mongolia highway traffic sustainable development, this paper used PCA-DEA composite evaluation model to evaluate the Inner Mongolia highway traffic sustainable development by using SPSS and Excel software. The results show that the DEA are effective in 2007 and 2009, and the DEA are not effective in the rest of the ten years but it increases returns to scale in these years, which indicates that increasing inputs can get more outputs. The technologies in 2007, 2008 and 2009 are effective, which shows that Inner Mongolia autonomous region has paid attention to the technology development and utilization in highway construction in recent years. It is clear that Inner Mongolia highway traffic is towards the direction of the sustainable development.

Contemporary society is sustained by a growing digitalization of social processes, with exponential growth in the uses of ICT, which opened up new interaction possibilities with objects and places. In the field of tourism, these technological developments have given rise to the emergence of new concepts: smart tourism, smart destinations, smart experiences, and smart heritage. These concepts and their implications for the success of tourist activities are discussed first, and then the focus of analysis is shifted to the local tourism resources and characteristics. The case study focuses on the municipality of São Pedro do Sul, an area located in the Viseu Dão Lafões subregion, within the Central Region of Portugal. Several low-cost digital strategies are proposed to enrich tourism activities based on endogenous cultural and natural resources and empower route tourism as a relevant strategy for diversifying tourism and support the sustainable development of local communities based on a digital application that aims to integrate storytelling in the territorial context under study.
