Barium titanate (BT) and strontium titanate (ST) nanocubes which have been synthesized by hydrothermal method with surfactants were assembled in order directly on the substrates by using capillary-force-assisted self-assembly method. The ordered structures, crystallinity and orientation of the nanocubes were evaluated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning probe microscopy (SPM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The piezoresponse properties of the nanocubes ordering structures characterized by Piezoresponse Force Microscopy (PFM) seemed to depend on the constituents and their interface.

ABSTRACTThis work reports on the structural characterization of Au nanocrystals directly prepared on the surface of (100)Si and 150 nm-thick SiO2 deposited (100)Si substrates, by a physical self-assembly method, consisting in the UHV evaporation of a thin Au film and its successive high temperature annealing. The morphology, orientation, and crystalline structure of Au nanocrystals were characterized by scanning and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction, respectively. Experimental results show that the nature of the substrate strongly influences the process of Au nanocrystal formation upon heat treatment, by affecting the interaction of deposited Au with the underlying material. In the case of clean (100)Si substrates the Au strongly interacts with Si, so that Au nanoislands are obtained with a well defined epitaxial relationships with the substrate, i.e. [100]AuÐÐ[110]Si and [110]AuÐÐ[311]Si. The nanoisland shape is affected by faceting at the Au/Si interface, the Au nanocrystal being limited by the {111}, {311}, {711} and {-111} planes of Si. In the case of SiO2/(100)Si substrates spherical shaped Au nanoparticles with random crystal orientation are instead, produced.

With an average diameter of 300-500 nm, conducting microspheres of polyaniline (PANI) were synthesized successfully by a self-assembly method in the presence of ferrocene sulfonic acid (FcSO3H) as the dopant, and ammonium persulfate ((NH4)2S2O8) as the oxidant. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) proved that the microspheres of PANI- FcSO3H synthesized by a self-assembly process were hollow ones. And the backbone structure of obtained PANI- FcSO3H was characterized by FTIR spectrum. The effect of synthetic conditions, such as the molar ratio of FcSO3H to aniline (An) and the reaction temperature, on the morphology and size was also investigated.

In the current study, the Fe2O3/biochar nanocomposite was synthesized through a self-assembly method, followed by the immobilization of Pseudomonas putida (P. putida) on its surface to produce the P. putida/Fe2O3/biochar magnetic innovative nanocomposite. The synthesized nanocomposite was characterized using different techniques including X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). Then, the efficiencies of this material to remove calconcarboxylic acid (CCA) organic dye, ammonium ions (NH4+), and phosphate ions (PO43−) from industrial wastewater were analyzed. The removal rates of up to 82%, 95%, and 85% were achieved for CCA dye, PO43−, NH4+, respectively, by the synthesized composite. Interestingly, even after 5 cycles of reuse, the prepared nanocomposite remains efficient in the removal of pollutants. Therefore, the P. putida/Fe3O4/biochar composite was found to be an actual talented nanocomposite for industrial wastewater bioremediation.

AbstractThe piezoelectric properties of PTO thin films grown by pulsed laser deposition are investigated with piezoresponse force microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. The as-grown films exhibit upward polarization, and inhomogeneous distribution of piezoelectric characteristics. The data obtained reveal imprint during piezoresponse force microscopy measurements, nonlinearity in the piezoelectric deformation, and limited retention loss. Moreover, transmission electron microscopy shows the presence of defects near the film/substrate interface, which can be associated with the variations of piezoelectric properties.

AbstractThe detonation of explosives typically creates 100's of kbar pressures and 1000's K temperatures. These pressures and temperatures last for only a fraction of a microsecond as the products expand. Nucleation and growth of crystalline materials can occur under these conditions. Recovery of these materials is difficult but can occur in some circumstances. This paper describes the detonation synthesis facility, recovery of nano-size diamond, and plans to synthesize other nano-size materials by modifying the chemical composition of explosive compounds. The characterization of nano-size diamonds by transmission electron microscopy and electron diffraction, X-ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy will also be reported.

Polyaniline (PANI) nanotubes were synthesized separately using amino acetic acid (AA), ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid (EDTA), oxalic acid (OA) as dopant and ammonium persulfate (APS) as oxidant by a self-assembly method. SEM, TEM,FTIR and X-ray diffraction (XRD) and applying the 4 probes method characterized the morphology, structure and property of the product. It was found that nanotubes morphology were synthesized when the [Aci/[A ratio is 1:2.The room template conductivity of the products were studied.

BiFeO3 polyhedrons had been successfully synthesized via a hydrothermal method. The as-prepared products were characterized by power X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The possible mechanisms for the formation of BiFeO3 polyhedrons were discussed. Though comparison experiments, it was found that the kind of precursor played a key role on the morphology control of BiFeO3 crystals.

Polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB)/polycaprolactone (PCL)/stearate Mg-Al layered double hydroxide (LDH) nanocomposites were prepared via solution casting intercalation method. Coprecipitation method was used to prepare the anionic clay Mg-Al LDH from nitrate salt solution. Modification of nitrate anions by stearate anions between the LDH layers via ion exchange reaction. FTIR spectra showed the presence of carboxylic acid (COOH) group which indicates that stearate anions were successfully intercalated into the Mg-Al LDH. The formation of nanocomposites only involves physical interaction as there are no new functional groups or new bonding formed. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) indicated that the mixtures of nanocomposites are intercalated and exfoliated types. XRD results showed increasing of basal spacing from 8.66 to 32.97 Å in modified stearate Mg-Al LDH, and TEM results revealed that the stearate Mg-Al LDH layers are homogeneously distributed in the PHB/PCL polymer blends matrix. Enhancement in 300% elongation at break and 66% tensile strength in the presence of 1.0 wt % of the stearate Mg-Al LDH as compare with PHB/PCL blends. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) proved that clay improves compatibility between polymer matrix and the best ratio 80PHB/20PCL/1stearate Mg-Al LDH surface is well dispersed and stretched before it breaks.

Synthesis of a rutile-type lead-substituted tin oxide with (110) face was investigated. The characterization was performed by x-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy, infrared spectroscopy, x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and Brunauer–Emmett–Teller surface area measurements. The homogeneous rutile-type lead-substituted tin oxide was obtained until 4.1 mol% of tin was substituted with lead. The surface of obtained oxide had a homogeneously lead-substituted (110) face.
