Single crystals of (K,Na)Nb1-xTaxO3(KNNT) were grown by the top-seeded solution growth (TSSG) method under high oxygen pressure atmosphere (Po2= 0.9 MPa), and their dielectric properties were investigated along [10cubic(the cubic notation). KNNT single crystals in a composition range of 0x0.65 were successfully obtained. Through the measurements of x-ray diffraction and dielectric properties, we propose a temperature (T)-composition (x) phase diagram in the KNNT system in which a successive phase transition from orthorhombic (Amm2), tetragonal (P4mm) to cubic (Pmm) occurs with increases inTandx.

Cu2Te single crystal was grown by the Bridgman method. X-ray diffraction (XRD) study of Cu2Te single crystals in the temperature range of 293–893 K was performed and possible phase transitions in the mentioned range of temperature have been investigated. (Cu2Te)[Formula: see text](ZnTe)[Formula: see text] single crystals also were grown with [Formula: see text], 0.05, 0.10 concentrations and structural properties of the obtained single crystals were investigated by the XRD method in the temperature range 293–893 K. Lattice parameters and possible phase transitions in the mention temperature range were determined for (Cu2Te)[Formula: see text](ZnTe)[Formula: see text] single crystals for [Formula: see text], 0.05, 0.10 concentrations.

The technique of high resolution Brillouin spectroscopy has been used to determine the adiabatic elastic constants of single crystals of β-N2 and β-CO as a function of temperature, in an effort to study the α–β phase transition. For all elastic constants, there is an increase of approximately 1%/K on cooling and there is no evidence of further mode softening, even within 0.5 K of the phase transition. Three large single crystals of α-CO were grown. The orientations were determined, by Laue X-ray diffraction, and correlated to the orientations of the parent β-crystals. The β-phase hexagonal basal planes appear to transform to planes of the form {110} in the α-phase cubic structure.

In situ reactively sputter deposited, 300-nm-thick Pb(Zrx, Ti1−x)O3 thin films were investigated as a function of composition, texture, and different electrodes (Pt,RuO2).X-ray diffraction analysis, ferroelectric, dielectric, and piezoelectric measurements were carried out. While for dielectric properties bulklike contributions from lattice as well as from domains are observed, domain wall contributions to piezoelectric properties are very much reduced in the morphotropic phase boundary (MPB) region. Permittivity and d33 do not peak at the same composition; the MPB region is broadened up and generally shifted to the tetragonal side.

AbstractSingle crystals of synthetic reidite and natural radiation-damaged zircon from Okueyama, Japan were investigated using X-ray diffraction. The pressure-induced zircon–reidite transition is described by the twisting and translations of SiO4 tetrahedra with disappearance of the SiO4–ZrO8 shared edges. The lattice of radiation-damaged zircons expands mainly from α-decays of radioactive elements such as U and Th. Although old radiation-damaged zircons show anomolous lattice distortion, young radiation-damaged zircons do not show such distortions. These distortions are caused by thermal recovery that suppresses the Si4+–Zr4+ repulsion between the SiO4 tetrahedron and ZrO8 dodecahedron. These changes in structure can be understood by considering the cation–cation repulsion between the SiO4–ZrO8 shared edges.

Investigations of new single crystals grown in the K3H(SO4)2–(NH4)3H(SO4)2–H2O system from solutions with different K:NH4 concentration ratios have been carried out. Based on the X-ray diffraction data, the atomic structure of the crystals was determined at room temperature taking H atoms into account. It has been determined that [K0.43(NH4)0.57]3H(SO4)2 crystals are trigonal at ambient conditions such as the superprotonic phase of (NH4)3H(SO4)2 at high temperature. A distribution of the K and N atoms in the crystal was modelled on the basis of the refined occupancies of K/N positions. Studies of dielectric properties over the temperature range 223–353 K revealed high values of conductivity of the crystals comparable with the conductivity of known superprotonic compounds at high temperatures, and an anomaly corresponding to a transition to the phase with low conductivity upon cooling.

Dielectric properties and the phase compositions of (1−x)Pb(Ni1/3Nb2/3)O3−xPbTiO3 ceramics were investigated. A morphotropic phase boundary (MPB) in the system between pseudocubic and tetragonal phase regions has been identified to lie in the composition range x = 0.34–0.38 by means of x-ray diffraction and dielectric measurements. The samples of composition lying near the MPB have good dielectric properties, but at the same time, exhibit two dielectric peaks. The possible reasons for the occurrence of dielectric bipeaks are discussed. One dielectric peak is phase transition peak, and the other peak lying in 130–150 °C temperature range is suggested to result from structure defects in the ceramics.

Single crystals of x( Bi,K ) TiO 3 - (1 - x)( Bi,Na ) TiO 3 (0.11 ≤ x ≤ 0.47) were grown by a flux method and their polarization and piezoelectric properties were investigated along 〈100〉 cubic at 25°C. Rietveld analysis of powder X-ray diffraction data provides a tentative phase diagram in this system: rhombohedral R3c for x ≤ 0.22, pseudocubic for 0.22 < x < 0.3 and tetragonal P4mm for 0.3 ≤ x. Piezoelectric strain properties show that the crystals (x = 0.38) exhibited an extremely large piezoelectric strain constant of 637 pm/V.

ABSTRACT(1-x)(Bi0.8Gd0.2)FeO3-xPbTiO3 (BGF-PT) solid solutions ceramics of x=0.55,0.50,0.4975, 0.49 and 0.45 were prepared by the mixed oxide method. Gd3+ of 20 at% was introduced into the Bi3+ site to improve the dielectric and piezoelectric properties of BFPT without causing the significant reduction of Curie temperature (Tc). X-ray diffraction analysis shows a transformation from the tetragonal (T) to rhombohedral (R) phase with the increase of BGF content. The morphotropic phase boundary was determined by measuring the dielectric and piezoelectric properties of BGF-PT within a wide composition range. BGF-PT for x=0.4975 shows the coexistence of T and R phases with the dielectric constant and loss of about 895 and 0.031 respectively at the frequency of 102 Hz.
