D-Tagatose is a ketohexose monosaccharide and recognized as a low-calorie substitute sweetener that could be used in nonchronic drugs, foods, beverages and dietary supplements. Currently, the biological production of D-tagatose using L-arabinose isomerase has caused extensive attention. In the article, properties and recent researches about D-tagatose and L-arabinose isomerase are described. The industrial application and existing problems are also stated.

Functional dietary supplements are now regarded as an important factor to keep physical health, maintain exercise status and improve athletic performance. More and more sports industries are focusing on such supplements, which makes the industry develop rapidly and pay more and more attention to the research and development of different products, functions and the efficacy of health care. In this paper, the functional dietary supplements were classified and summarized, and energy supply supplements were discussed in detail: glucose and Adenosine Triphosphate; Exercise protection supplements: chondroitin sulphate, glucosamine, collagen, vitamin D and calcium; Endurance supplements: strength supplements such as protein, creatine, β-alanine, epicatechin, and taurine. The existing problems of functional dietary supplements were analysed and summarized, and the future development prospects were prospected, hoping to provide references for the development and research of new products of functional dietary supplements.

In this paper, generation and harm of SO2are described. Cansolv SO2Scrubbing, a regenerated amine process, is mainly described with respects to its process principle, features and application. This paper analyzed the existing problems such as corrosion , crystallization and loss of amine. Prevention measures were proposed according to the monitoring data, analysis and research.

Summary The first 50 websites identified on searching the Internet for ‘weight loss diets’ were assessed systematically and their content compared with published clinical guidelines for management of obesity. The relevance and quality of the sites varied enormously. Only 3 confined themselves to sound dietary advice. Most promoted dietary supplements or other ‘slimming aids’, often of uncertain composition and based on dubious physiological principles. Potential hazards—for example, those of very low calorie diets—were rarely highlighted and certain regimens on offer were potentially dangerous.

The article describes the role of selenium in the humankind being. The analysis based on the published data shows that the biological synthesis is a perspective way to obtain an organic form of selenium, which can be used in dietary supplements. The ability of lactic acid bacteria (Lactobacillus acidophilus 412/307)to accumulate inorganic forms of selenium (selenites, selenates), turning them into organic forms, with purposeful trace element enrichment of culture medium is described in the article. The main organic forms of selenium, which are being used in the process of biotransformation from its inorganic forms by microorganisms, have been reorganized. The relationship between the increasing of concentrations of sodium selenite in the culture medium and the growth of biomass of lactic acid bacteria was established. It was found the depressing effect of increasing concentrations of sodium selenite on optical density rate. It was estabilished the optimal conditions for the maximum accumulation of selenium containing culture of lactic acid bacteria. The influence of selenium concentration on the lactic acid bacteria biomass accumulation was determined also by changing the values of optical density. Due to the obtained data, the selenium containing dietary supplement «Selenolakt» was created. The main microbiological indicators that characterize the quality of the obtained product are given. The content of organic form of selenium in products reaches –195 ± 1 mkg/g.

The era of atomic-resolution electron microscopy has finally arrived. In virtually all inorganic materials, including oxides, metals, semiconductors and ceramics, it is possible to image individual atomic columns in low-index zone-axis projections. A whole host of important materials’ problems involving defects and departures from nonstoichiometry on the atomic scale are waiting to be tackled by the new generation of intermediate voltage (300-400keV) electron microscopes. In this review, some existing problems and limitations associated with imaging inorganic materials are briefly discussed. The more immediate problems encountered with organic and biological materials are considered elsewhere.Microscope resolution. It is less than a decade since the state-of-the-art, commercially available TEM was a 200kV instrument with a spherical aberration coefficient of 1.2mm, and an interpretable resolution limit (ie. first zero crossover of the contrast transfer function) of 2.5A.

Innovators of in vitro meat (IVM) are convinced that this approach is the solution for problems related to current meat production and consumption, especially regarding animal welfare and environmental issues. However, the production conditions have yet to be fully clarified and there is still a lack of ethical discourses and critical debates on IVM. In consequence, discussion about the ethical justifiability and desirability of IVM remains hypothetical and we have to question those promises. This paper addresses the complex ethical aspects associated with IVM and the questions of whether, and under what conditions, the production of IVM represents an ethically justifiable solution for existing problems, especially in view of animal welfare, the environment, and society. There are particular hopes regarding the benefits that IVM could bring to animal welfare and the environment, but there are also strong doubts about their ethical benefits.
